Wii U Speculation Thread 2: Can't take anymore of this!!!

There's quite a few as it goes, and from third parties too, surprisingly:

Red Steel 2
Silent Hill Shattered Memories
Dead Space Extraction

In order of prettyness imo.

As for GDC I think the most important thing we've heard of is the Havok and Autodesk middleware being made available to developers for free. This is bloody HUGE. This has basically made things easier for smaller, independent developers to enter into U and NN development that not only will not have any of the annoying restrictions that Live has that gets on developers' tits but also includes tens of thousands of pounds worth of middleware to play with.

I think some of you are seriously underestimating, or perhaps unaware of, the impact that this is going to have at the retail game level and, most importantly, at the Nintendo Network digital distribution level.

I hate to think how much this cost Nintendo, but I think this unprecedented move is going to be worth every penny! :Oo

Definitely right there with you. Considering the quality and sheer greatness of many recent Indie titles it is amazingly great news. The only real unknowns at this point will be filesize caps (probably nothing to worry about considering 3DS), console storage and most importantly long term how well the games can really sell, and if consumers are willing to utilize the DD feature. For that to happen, Nintendo needs to make NiN a HUGE deal and market and support the hell out of it, and it needs to be UI friendly of course. Otherwise it'll just end up under supported.

Thinking about it, I'm actually most excited to see what the Indie crowd can do on this HW/feature set with the Upad. Could be some truly amazing stuff.

My one question about this is that when they say "developers" do they mean everyone down to the 1-2 man operations as well? It is a pretty big deal either way though, makes it very easy for small devs who don't have big margins to jump straight into Wii U development.

As long as they get a publisher, they can make games for Nintendo systems.

Will it be though? To be perfectly honest, I don't see the Wii U selling more than say, the 3DS, in its 1st year (depending on obvious things like price and games).

I think it's impossible to say. No one expected the Wii to sell as well as it did, no one expected the PS3 to sell as poorly as it did, no one expected the 3DS to launch as weakly as it did, no one expected the DS to be able to compete with the PSP, etc. It really just can't be predicted.

86 Days Remains.

? :(

Launching closer to the Holidays with a better lineup will mean it'll sell better at first, at least.

That's what people thought about Vita, but it dropped dramatically (in Japan, at least). Obviously it's hard to predict these things, but I'm just saying 'flying off the shelves' isn't guaranteed.

I know, I know. Hundreds of factors involved, but again, I was just countering the notion that the machine will be flying off the shelves. It could very well end up selling poorly.

Are you slowly going to update that every day till E3?

I don't think there are even 89 pixels between the moon and the building.
>_>

But Vta's Japanese lineup was abysmal (for Japan), and Sony doesn't have even a tenth of the inhouse development power Nintendo does.
Not to mention it launch at nearly the same time as MH3G and MK7.

I'd like to do something like that, actually. Taking an image and updating it once a day until E3.

Not that one, though. It's a year old and the moon is too close already.

Oh, for sure. I'm just saying, anything is possible.

That being said, I see it being successful as much more likely. But you can't ignore the possibility that they might screw up in some way.

There is, of course, always that possibility.
But I think Nintendo is going to plan this out much more than they have in the past.
They are definitely going to be putting in some long nights to make sure it's ready.

If you go all-out on that photoshop, the Battlefield ad's gotta go.

Something with Pikmin might be more fitting..

(pseudo-edit)
Has Nintendo stated any kind of goal for the U? Like when they said that they wanted Wii to out-do GameCube's sales?

I know this has been said before or thought before but the stumble of the 3DS launch and the confusion and lackluster first showing of the Wii U will be a huge blessing in disguise.

They have a lot of pressure and a lot at stake now and they're going to focus on it much more than they ever have in the past.

We could start from here and add something related to E3/Nintendo/Wii U once a day until E3.

What do you guys think?

Too Dojo-like for me, it will be so exciting to see the additions every day and then the show will hit and the journey will end up much more enthralling than the destination.

Call it the "Brawl Curse".

Actually, do what you want, it's all good.

Or, day by day increase the opacity of the moon ever so slightly.

Honestly, now that CES and GDC are over, the road to E3 will be easier. No other event for speculation on whether or not anything will be shown.

There's the next Nintendo Direct. Most likely in April.

Pretty much this. People will hype them up, regardless. (Although they have given some decent things in the past).

It's plausible that Nintendo may give some kind of info at the end of their fiscal year.

Indeed it is, after the NFC and NiN announcements. They may need something to calm investors when they don't post over-all profit/announce no dividends.

Wasn't that in January?

That was for the end of the Quarter ending December 31st. They do one each quarter/end of year. (Japan's fiscal year runs April-March).

There'll most likely be the June Nintendo Direct during E3.
Any chance we'll get more info there?

Also, some of the screenshots Darksiders II have a strange Galaxy-esque feel. Especially one of them that has a similar background to the Shiverburn Galaxy (did they ever find out what that thing was in the corner?)

Theirs ends in March. That's when we first found out that Nintendo was going to get outside help for their online.

That's also around the time they announced the Wii U last year. (I mean, the announcement of the announcement of the successor of the Wii.)

Nintendo Direct in June WILL be E3.

For each of these events, I can see us going through the same cycle over and over again.. the road to E3 is going to be splattered with NintendoGAF's blood and tears.

Right. And here is a link to what I was talking about.

It's interesting looking back because Iwata also said.

...

Of course, Nintendo will continue to run a business by creating Nintendo-like games, but we will not be able to meet the various tastes of consumers by only doing this, so I feel that it will become necessary to reinforce the development resources in the foreign countries. Therefore, I hope we will be able to show you something like that at E3.

We didn't get to see too much of that last E3. :P

Official announcement from Nintendo:

"Wii U will be totally awesome, see you at E3".

I think they'll give more than that when talking about Wii U.

^ You're not going to get credit for that one.

Sorry I missed this. But yeah we could see some nuggets akin to that for if nothing else than to appease investors.

So each day, I'll turn up the opacity and size of the moon + add something.

Or if someone ask to add something, just call it before.

Thought that banner in the side said porn, to be honest. Told you I have horrible eyesight.

Also, add Happy Mask Salesman's eyes in the corner tomorrow.

I have an idea.

We could all play Majora's Mask to kill time until E3!

Dawn of the first day, 2112 hours remain.

Try and collect all the masks and finish the game by the time E3 starts.

oh, and buy Xenoblade too.
