Wii U Speculation Thread 2: Can't take anymore of this!!!

I think this is more or less already given (and we don't know nothing about First Party Lineup).
yeah but I'm not including ports, unless they are graphically superior. Otherwise I'm comfortable just playing on my PS3 till wiiU gets original games, or noticeably upgraded games.

I'm not being that picky though, 2+ actual good launch games, not decent ones, good ones. And a handful to look forward to in the near future after launch. Then I'm in for launch bonanza.

That would only achieve the opposite.

Really? Being built from the ground up would seem to keep that from happening.

Or more simply, the eDRAM is used to provide higher bandwidth for local operations without needing to saturate the main memory. Can still be a 128bit architecture.

Not if it's six chips.

I agree with the first part as I was taking it from a different perspective to show why they would incorporate the eDRAM.

Who else is getting Wii-U at launch?

Only if I can afford it.

Who else is getting Wii-U at launch?

I would have guessed that most of the people contributing to this thread, assuming they have available funds, will buy the Wii U on day 1. I know that I will unless the games/system really disappoint - which I cannot imagine after being a Wii only owner this generation.

My hopes are only emboldened by the way the 3DS is ever evolving (even if it is stuff that has been standard on other consoles).

It all comes down to price and launch line up for me. I've been burned too many times in the past buying stuff at/near launch based on hype, and not having anything worthwhile to play on it.

Needs to be cheap enough I can afford to buy 2-3 launch titles, and have 2-3 games at launch that I want to play. Failing that I'll wait.

Saying that - I know I'll cave in and pre-order anyway!

Who else is getting Wii-U at launch?

I am getting it at launch with no real concern about price. I have always been there day one on Nintendo home systems. Probably just one game. I realized I need to take my time these days.

I honestly have never been disappointed with a Nintendo home console launch ever. GameCube launch is my favorite though.

I actually want a product with a value of $350-400. I don't mind paying a little extra if it means that the system will hold its own against whatever Sony and MS come up with.

Who else is getting Wii-U at launch?

I definitely am. It's a little upsetting that I'm the only one of my friends who is even remotely interested in the Wii U. I'm hoping Nintendo has an impressive showing this E3.

hopefully AC3, RE6, and the like from other developers is announced on wiiU for a release this year because I want to start moving my multiplat library to a Nintendo console. It provides some much needed nostalgia of the Snes days.

to get it at launch I need to give a store (GameStop) $50 a month until launch
can you still do that with pre-orders? drop some cash on it until you are fully paid up?

I am.

Still hoping that Battle Mii will be a real game and not just a tech demo...

I really wonder how much the console form factor might change at the e3 blowout. Man, that controller needs to be modified as well -__-

Who else is getting Wii-U at launch?

I'm going to do things a bit different next gen. I'll buy the consoles around 5 years into the gen. I've learned my lessons from this gen and i've got plenty of current gen and last gen stuff to keep my occupied.

Problem with this is online games I'll want to play will have dead communities.

No you should not just assume its gone. Nintendo has done transferring for the DSi and 3DS, I don't see why they wouldn't add it for the Wii U.
I agree with this. Some people counter with "Well, they never setup a Wii -> Wii transfer system.", which is true, but I think they considered the amount of people who'd need it transferred without it being part of a repair/replacement were pretty insignificant.

You've gone mad. There's no way they'll release at $400. I could see $350 maybe, if they're interested in another 3DS launch situation. $250/$299 please.

250 makes no sense. They'd be selling at a loss and Nintendo is way to stubborn to do that as a first resort.

Because it will convey that it will not hold up graphically in comparison to the competition. I'm not asking for a $599 console but $300 in this day in age is unacceptable. It will be $50 more than the Vita Wifi and 3DS.

I hate to break it to ya...

but nintendo don't give a mother fuck about power. It'll be $299. $349 max.

It's not going to hold up graphically in comparison to 720/PS4.

$250? So you're pretty much asking for another Wii situation where it flounders and will not hold up to the competition in a few years, thereby making sure that it doesn't receive straight quality ports from the next Playstation/Xbox. Ok, have fun with that.

They sure as hell better worry about power if they don't want another Wii situation where the software falls off the cliff after a few years.

I just had a crazy idea. What if Nintendo showing a new Wiiesque console is just a cover for the real secret.... the Wii-U *was* secretly just a new controller for the Wii, one that wirelessly improves the graphics of the base system, similar to how the Sega 32X improved the graphics of the Genesis? This would explain the comments on how the controller is too expensive to be sold separately, and how Nintendo is considering the controller to be a part of the console.

If it is $299, it will have been $50 more than the 3DS at launch. Whether Nintendo overpriced the system or not doesn't change that having their next gen console that is suppose to compete for 5-6 years with the next Playstation/Xbox priced $50 more than their handheld at launch is ridiculous.

I see your point.

...what.

Who else is getting Wii-U at launch?

For me, it'll come down to 4 things, all equally important:

1) Price ($350-$399, more expensive than the Wii was at launch but will be totally worth it if Nintendo puts out acceptable hardware that will be supported.)

2) A great launch lineup (we're talking at least two genuine must-haves amongst a sea of "eh, it's ok for a launch title").

3) A clear demonstration by the end of E3 that quality 3rd party support will be present on the Wii U, and that maintaining quality support and reaching out to devs will be one of Nintendo's biggest goals this gen.

4) By the end of E3 we need to know everything about Nintendo's online restructuring. And it needs to be good, and it needs to be present from day 1. If Reggie gets on that stage and gives us a bunch of BS "check that box!" platitudes and a launch date of "sometime after the launch of the Wii U" I'm out, and I won't be looking back until the mid-gen price cuts hit.

And really, there's no reason why Nintendo can't hit all four marks here. They've had plenty of time to prepare the Wii U's launch, and that was before the year-long silence after first unveiling it. In my opinion the 4 things I listed above are bare minimum, and anything less than that would be an embarrassment to the company.

I could see $349. Maybe $379 with a pack in game which i believe it so desperately needs. I'd be hesitant at anything above $400 though.

Seeing the Gatchaman pic made me realize how Capcom wasted the license.

...

TvC2 for Wii2/next gen consoles?

Keep writin' those dreams

Wii launch price: $250
360 launch price: $299, $399
PS3 launch price: $499, $599

Wii won this gen with that strategy. I'd like a $400, powerful Nintendo console too, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.
