If only Nintendo would release multiple colors again.

MMMmm. Dat orange gamecube.

@Gibbogame:

Execs here, don't think I have seen iwata (pres) and miyamoto(mario creator) faces so long and demure

Probably hasn't been the best day for them...but they have the power to make it better...

WiiU before xmas, have prepaired appropriate titles for launch, wiiU will have NFC enabling easy settlement and figurine connection

The nfc will be planned internationally for easy settlement too

Still planning offerig DLC but need more time to do more feasability study on market and needs

WiiU will have individual account system rather than previous per hardware, hence several users per hardware unit

Wil be making lots of internet/digital related news going forward but nothing more today

Source

Yes!

Individual account per system = great news. Bout time. They basically hinted that they'll reveal more internet stuff at GDC right? They said soon but not here, which basically leaves GDC before E3.

Even more exciting is what this implies.

With an "individual" account system - number-based friend codes make even less sense! Which makes accounts tied to a username even more likely!

And if THAT's even more likely, then so is the ability to access purchased DLC/games on another console!

Oh god...*fans self*

So much news even though most of it was obvious, and people doubted we'd get anything out of this. Should keep the thread going for another 4 years.

I love big contrast on electronics. Don't like much the idea of "blending in" with all the other electronics in the room.

I wouldn't mind a green Wii U. Or orange.

Quick someone make some photoshop'd color variations of the uTablet!

So...

Already by now, the Wii U is known for its new controller with a screen, among other features. For this controller, please be advised that we have decided to install a NFC function.

As many of you know, NFC is the acronym for Near Field Communication, which is a set of standards to establish radio communication in close proximity. The NFC I’m referring to here is the noncontact NFC standard that is compatible with FeliCa and MIFARE, and is expected to be widely used around the world in the near future.

By installing this functionality, it will become possible to create cards and figurines that can electronically read and write data via noncontact NFC and to expand the new play format in the video game world. Adoption of this functionality will enable various other possibilities such as using it as a means of making micropayments.

Games like Skylanders possible without extra hardware? I wonder what kind of game will make best use of this.

It's goddamn genius

I also fully expect it to be in the PS4 or nextbox now. I don't think nintendo should have said anything at all about it until E3 at the earliest.

Well I mean, there are a ton of games...

I mean Pokemon.. imagine... the trading card game...

Er... Sports games.. imagine... tying that in with cards

LEGOs is a huge possibility

Racers.. Hot wheels.. nascar..

I could see them doing it with Mii Gear.. buy a Mario figurine unlock his hat

I mentioned this in the investor meeting thread but portal on Wii U could be incredible.

What if jumping was mapped to an actual jumping motion? I mean, of course you could just play with buttons too if you wanted, but playing portal standing, 360 degree window all around you, and physically having to jump in order to jump in the game would be simply GODLY

Just something to think about

I'm glad Nintendo finally lifted the curtain a bit on some of this stuff. There was NO reason at all to hold that till E3 (well, the NFC stuff might have waited as a big surprise). I don't think the information about Nintendo Network or the account system was a big surprise but it was nice to get confirmation of the direction it looked like it would head.

It wasn't a surprise to anyone with any commons sense...
I still don't know where people got the Wild West shit from...

Yay!

Instead of speculating whether or not an account will be locked to a machine, we can now speculate if multiple accounts will be locked to a machine!
