Wii U Speculation Thread 2: Can't take anymore of this!!!

Was the Wii U clicky stick rumour ever verified?
Don't think so.

I think I'd like clicky circle pads since the pad is always flat. You'd never be pushing down on an angled shaft, which is what I hate about clicky sticks. Feels super cheap and awkward. I think Nintendo needs to add ridges and/or a deeper pit to the circle pad design for better grip though. picard_makeitso.gif

Nibris is closed now, isn't it? I remember seeing this trailer a few years ago. I think it was showed during E3 2006 or 2007 and it was hilarious :D

wikipedia says they had 3 Wii and 3 DS games in "development" with only 14 Employees, none of them was ever released. Is there any footage for another of their games?
Closed? If with "closed" you mean: The guy walk out of his barn and shut the door. Then yes... Closed.

The actual story behind H.A.ohfuckitHammer is not that interesting.

They missed a bunch of development deadlines, Nintendo wanted them to either shape up or make something more casual, they couldn't do the former and couldn't really do the latter.

Impress Watch ran a story regarding AMD 2012 Financial Analyst Day five days ago, and in it both Wii U and Xbox 720 are mentioned: http://pc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/column/kaigai/20120206_510014.html

As I don't know Japanese, I resorted to Google Translate which gave me this snippet of Engrish:

It seems to be just a reassurance that AMD is creating the GPU for Wii U, but I won't hold Google Translate as a firm source. So maybe someone that knows Japanese could provide a better translation.

I searched for this story to see if it already had been posted, but no results showed up.

Anyone want to translate this first bit:

「次期Xbox(Xbox 720とメディアでは呼ばれている)」

Specifically the part before the first Xbox?

Clicky circle pads sound delicious but are they possible?

Is it wrong to be disappointed that ExciteBots never got released here? I really enjoyed playing Excite Truck, especially being able to play my own music. I didn't even know that the former existed until I posted on another forum about Nintendo making some kind of sequel... ^^'

In hindsight I reckon Nibris did never open in the first place, they were essentially broken as they were begging for funds, I wouldn't be surprised if that was only a well organized scam.

No, it is not.
In my understanding ExciteBots was really awful, unlike ExciteTrucks and ExciteBike, not to mention Wave race, that were pretty decent at the very least.

Next Xbox (being called Xbox 720 by the media).

Nice track, but why are you showing me this specifically?

No, it is not.

Well that's disappointing, but US residents got to play and find out at least. I know that people are excited for Project C.A.R.S. but I personally prefer unrealistic racers so I'd like more games that are like that, but not necessarily Mario Kart clones.

Well... you'll get to play Last Story and Pandora's Tower.

Yeah.
I'm myself a huge fan of the genre(1080°, Wave race, Diddy Kong racer, F-Zero, ExciteTrucks, TonyHawk downhill) so I'm generally craving for any kind of unrealistic arcade-crazed race games, but just watching first video footage was enough to put me definitely off.

Just try and watch a video if you dare...

Well... you'll get to play Last Story and Pandora's Tower.

Makes a change from being screwed over all the time I guess. The fact that us getting exclusives incurs the wrath of US residents almost makes me wish that we didn't get them at all...

Well, I don't think people are mad Europeis getting it, instead we're mad about us not getting it too.

Yeah, but there is resentment towards Europeans from people in the US because of it. It's understandable I guess, but since the latter doesn't get screwed over quite as much it probably comes as more of a shock. Europeans are used to being screwed over so we are probably more apathetic; the whole early release (even if a few days) and exclusives is a pretty new/rare thing.

Know I'm a bit late, but damn that bird demo video gets me every time. The snow falls of the feathers! It falls off! :P

Also, I feel that because most of Nintendo's franchises have been using effectively the same hardware (or, the same models, in some cases - looking at you Mario Kart DD/Wii) for over to ten years, people - including me - just don't have any solid idea how much further the images can be pushed, beyond the Zelda demo.

and now they're dead.

is digipen not all it's cracked up to be? what the hell happened? nst was somewhat okay early on. weird they're the mario vs. dk studio now.

Lies! All lies. I enjoyed Bots so much

No offence meant of course, mate!

From what I saw from the videos I saw on the web and from hands-on I read around that game was just awful, but if you say otherwise I can trust your opinion, and maybe it was better than how I think.

Maybe it's just that weird stuff - such as those slot-machines - put me off somehow, and as I said previously, I usually like that arcade racing genre.

Your understanding is stupid and wrong and you should be ashamed for having it... and you should be even more ashamed for repeating it. ;)

EuroMIX, if you liked Excite Truck you should also like ExciteBots. 'Bots refined the mechanics of 'Trucks. The core gameplay is overall better, but the game has a lot of silly and quirky additions that could turn some off. However, it doesn't have the custom music like 'Truck has (ircc).

The way people always told it, sounded like Nintendo had axed the project because the company was going in a casual only direction.

Good to know more to it than that.

Well, I miss the custom soundtrack from Truck, but Bots is a ton of over the top fun.
It really does whatever it wants and is a blast because of that.
And some interesting online options like betting, I think

Really? Outside of the lack of 3rd party support, the Wii for me was actually the best Nintendo console in terms of 1st party releases. Amazing installments in the Mario, Zelda and Metroid franchises, a superb Donkey Kong, revisiting old franchises like Kirby and Sin and Punishment as well as a good assortment of new game experiences.

And even from 3rd parties, the console has gotten some amazing games.

I love playing party games with friends, and the Wii simply is the go to system for that. Neither 360 nor PS3 come close in that regard.

Unfortunately those releases were rare and spread over large release periods, leaving huge gaps in software releases that weren't filled by 3rd parties. Coupled with the consoles inabilities, both technical and infrastructure wise, the ship began to sink pretty fast (allthough falling behind the competition after 5 years of whooping their asses pretty hard is actually bound to happen)

For me the WiiU will really have to adress these fundamental service problems. I am convinced that the next generation won't be decided by graphics power, but by the best online service and who can deliver the best value for the pricepoint as well as a good roster of constant releases.

This in particular will be one area to focus on for Nintendo.

Maybe the "worst" was a bit exaggerated, for multiplayer it's no doubt a great machine, but for single player the library is definitely not the best IMO. Great first party titles are a given on a Nintendo console, they always deliver that, but apart from that good releases were very rare. From the top of my head I can name Cube games like Resident Evil, RE4, Eternal Darkness, Tales of Symphonia, Skies of Arcadia, Baten Kaitos 1 & 2, F-Zero GX, Pikmin, Metal Gear :Twin Snakes, Viewtiful Joe, Soul Calibur II, Wave Race, the two Prime Games, Paper Mario, Phantasy Star Online, Ikaruga, etc and there are probably more that I can't remember now. I have a hard time coming up with such a list for the Wii.

So you completely ignored 3rd party hardcore games such as Silent Hill Silent Memories, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, No More Heroes 1 & 2, Mad World, Murasame, Red Steel 2, Tales of Symphonia 2, among others?
And I'm not even mentioning lots of 1st party games you didn't play either.

Granted, the Wii had a lot of shovelware, but it had enough good hardcore games (from 2010 and below at least) to satisfy anyone. After 2010, that's another story though.

Unless you mean the Wii didn't have the dudebro games that came out on the PS360. In that case, yeah, the console was not for you.

The Wii has a few amazing games, most of them first party, that's why I happily bought another one after selling it initially. I am happy with my Wii because I love Nintendo games & buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games. For the overall market though, there isn't much variety in games, for a console with such a huge user base releases were very sparse, especially in the last two years support pretty much died off (most of the games you mentioned were released a few years ago). And that's the main problem IMO, if people have nothing new to play they lose interest in the console and it eventually starts collecting dust.
If I go to the store and look at the Wii shelves I basically have to look through magnifying glasses to see the games that are not shovelware or dancing or cooking games. There is a market for those games and it's great that Nintendo can make money off them. I'm not saying that those games are bad because they are casual, I just think that the software made for the Wii is very one sided and hope Nintendo manage to put out a more balanced line-up for the WiiU.

Ok, I might have been wrongly biased towards ExciteBots and I already apologised for being a little harsh about a game I haven't actually played - I was only based on videos and negative hands-on - but hey, I was one of the fews that bought full-price at launch Dolphin the giant and I liked it, and it's been years that I happen to read everybody around dismissing that game, and I had to deal with it willy nilly.

Now I can tell you I may give that game a chance someday, and possibly change my mind.

My Wii collection easily matches my Gamecube collection. And I don't even have Wii casual games.

You name all of those GC games because you obviously played a lot of GC. You can't do that with the Wii, not because it doesn't have good games, but because you haven't played them. Want to see a list of good/great Wii games?

A Boy and His Blob, Arc Rise Fantasia, Battalion Wars 2, Dead Space Extraction, House of the Dead Overkill, Kirby Epic Yarn, Klonoa, Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword, Mad World, Mario Kart Wii, Metroid Prime 3, Metroid Other M, Monster Hunter 3, Muramasa, No More Heroes 1 & 2, Punch Out, Red Steel 2, Samurai Warriors 3, Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes, Silent Hill Shattered Memories, Sin Punishment 2, Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, Super Paper Mario, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Tales of Symphonia 2, Wario Land Shake It, Zak and Wiki and many others I still haven't bought yet.

.

Those 3rd party games are new to you since you haven't played them. You say the Wii doesn't have enough good games, but you haven't even played all of the good 3rd party games or all of Nintendo's offerings.

I'll forgive you... but just this once.

You know what?
Back then I was literally craving for a new Wave race or 1080° on Wii, so when I saw ExciteBots early footage - and in that period I can distinctly recall I was getting fairly disappointed by the overall lack of quality games announcements for Wii - it was just not the kind of thing I was expecting, not my cup of tea with that strange slot-machines stuff, so admittedly I didn't actually give that game a chance, my bad I trusted too blindly negative hands-on and reviews, as a rule we all should take second-hand stuff with a grain of salt.

Yeah, just heard about this. As a fan of hers (is that permitted here?) I consider this a good rumour. I'd rather have a game where you can dance and/or sing though if I had the choice.

EDIT: Am I wrong or are the "The Experience" games just built from a modified Just Dance engine? I seem to have been given that impression.

I still crave a game where you swing a big hammer with motion controls. Lightsabers and katana are nice and all but whacking robots to little pieces with a giant hammer just seems right to me. The Project HAMMER cancellation stung more than I thought it would. The only playable demo of HAMMER was rather shallow if I remember right. I have my doubts any existing content beyond the demo aimed much higher in that regard either.

This thread reminded me to pick up Excitebots sometime. Thanks for that! I hadn't heard anything about Monster Games in a long time and wondered if their last game was really Excitebots. Turns out they developed Pilotswings Resort? I sure didn't get the memo on that one or easily forgot. I'm hoping they have been cooking something up for WiiU with a chance of it being a launch title. I don't know if they are worthy of F-Zero but more excite or a new original racing title would be delightful.

I'm still waiting for John Williams: The Experience

Hum famous film music themes, conduct an orchestra with the Wii Remote Plus, play the piano and furiously compose a melody before a deadline, and as a bonus act out famous scenes from Steven Spielberg films.

Haters gonna hate.

SS sword combat has literally spoiled every "sword" combat game for me that doesn't use motion plus. I can't believe we never got a proper lightsabre game on the Wii.

I'll never understand that one.
Then again, Lucas Arts is pretty much garbage these days...

Even though it isn't the attraction anymore, I'm hoping that we might get a "No More Heroes Trilogy" for the Wii U similar to the Metroid one with updated graphics and Motion Plus combat.

If it weren't first person I probably would have picked up Red Steel 2 by now because at least it's supposed to have also done the Motion Plus swordplay right.

That's the point: No More Heroes 3 comes with updated versions of the first two games. No doubt that if it ever sees light it will give into the clamour for "traditional controls" though...

EDIT: To clarify, I mean that traditional controls only or focused on in place of motion controls people won't use because they "SUXORS".

Red Steel 2 is a really fun game and offers some of the most intuitive and responsive use of motion control of any game out there.

I don't know if I really want Suda 51 to do another NMH game unless we get to play as Shinobu or someone with more moves to spice up the gameplay a bit more.

Indeed. For some reason I had you figured for an NMH fan, Ace.

Gee...

I wonder why.
:P

Best new series from this generation hands down.
