Wii U Speculation Thread 2: Can't take anymore of this!!!

If we do get a Call of Duty for the U (and I'd say it was to be expected seeing as the Wii has had most of them) I'm hoping that Treyarch are working on it rather than Infinity Ward. The former developers are much more talented than the latter. I'm not a fan of Infinity Ward at all tbh.

And it's looking like Pachter is wrong yet again about something, I seem to remember him saying a while ago that the U wouldn't get much third party support. Looking pretty good so far:

Lego City Stories
Aliens: Colonial Marines
Battlefield
Project C.A.R.S.
Batman Arkham City
Ninja Gaiden 3
Metro Last Light
Killer Freaks From Outta Space
Darksiders 2
Assassin's Creed
Ghost Recon Online
Dragon Quest X
Tekken

And those are just the games announced at E3 last year before got their Cold War style news blackout thing going on lol. I think it would be safe to assume that the likes of GTA V, Resident Evil 6, Call of Duty, Madden, FIFA, Pro Evo and Medal of Honour franchises are also on their way too. And just thought I'd better say that this isn't port begging to any mods out there, it's an opinion. ;o)

He's not wrong until those titles are, in fact, confirmed.

I don't doubt it, but we're just going to have to wait until E3 to find out for sure.

It looked pretty bad then, but it has put them in a pretty damn good position right now.

Also, you have an awesome username.

That's true although I would assess the platform over its lifetime rather than just now but I do not begrudge them their current popularity. Frankly anyone who has the courage to release a video game console at all deserves some goodwill from me purely because it costs an obscene amount of money and the chances of success are anything but guaranteed.

How kind! Thank you! :)

Regarding yours....since you cool down brothers do I take it you are Harry Enfield? :o

Well, still, the Wii U has its first downloadable title coming.

The Ninjas will be deployed soon to silence Two Tribes.

Some of the WiiWare development has been amazing, how some of them have managed to squeeze the games they have into just 42MB (as far as I remember but I will stand to be corrected) of compressed data is pretty gobsmacking tbh. Can't wait to see what they're going to come up with for the U without such a ridiculous storage restraint.

Yeah, this is getting ridiculous. It's obvious that devs want to start showing off their work. Software that isn't titled Mario and Call of Duty need some time to build up interest/awareness.

This is a minor issue but I hope that Nintendo reverses the trigger labeling for the Wii U controller. Both the Classic Controller Pro and Circle Pad Pro use a configuration with the L and R button above the Z buttons. It would be nice if the final Wii U controller has the same labeling for the sake of consistency.

Haven't they been on the same plane, heightwise? The way Wii U is now matches the GameCube and Classic Controllers that came before it. R and L are the main shoulder buttons; larger, further back, sometimes analog. Zs are smaller, digital, and in front.

Combine that with the Golf demo we saw in the demo reel at E3 and we've got the Golf game of the year.

This ^^

The Wii SKU of Tiger Woods has always been the best of the bunch; live weather from the Weather Channel, (surprisingly) entertaining party games, extra courses and of course superior controls. Having what we've seen on the golf demo would be the icing on the cake. Day one purchase for me.

Conversely... this is the era where games will be on as many systems as possible...
And if they can make a game with the same features on two consoles, they will do it because it sames money.

Agreed. This is actually a good thing for Nintendo (third party-wise).

As for a "secret weapon", I still think there will be Vitality Sensor technology built into the grips of the Wii U Pad.

Also, you do realize that you're basically saying that the only reason that the Wii U will get support is because of the controller...
I mean... think about that for a second.

Just catching up on the thread, a great read :).

This Activision story is very interesting.

Could the tech guys give an opinion on how much better Blops 2 would look than on PS3 and 360 ?, i've read it runs at some redic low resolution on PS3.

Also this is a big ask but how would the rumoured hardware run an MMO like WoW (MMO's are the next big thing on consoles next gen imo, so much money to be made even if they are free to play with optional purchases).

World of Warcraft with all four expansions as a Wii U launch game with the tablet to map many extra buttons would be amazing and breed new life into the WoW franchise.

I would rather have that than a slightly crisper version of Blops 2 tbh.

If the rumoured two first party launch games are Pikman and Smash Bros with a new Mario 3D platformer early in 2013, then i will be more than happy with that.

If they get the marketing and price point right (under £300 for UK) i could see them being 20+ million consoles ahead of their rivals by Nov 2013 imo.

Cheers.

odds are it wont look better. Could it though? Yes. But it's all up to the engine and the developers (who aren't known for being anything other than lazy if the past is anything to go by).

The next Xbox will be a matt-black media hub with a mission to bring games to life in your living room with augmented reality, directional sound, and a four-player finger-tracking Kinect. We told you all that last month. This month, our sources tell us it will have a touchscreen, too.

Microsoft are experimenting with a tablet-like controller with a shape closer to Sony’s sleek Vita handheld / Apple’s iPad than Wii U’s bulky unit – it’s an HD screen surrounded by the traditional 360 buttons and sticks.

On 360 that touchscreen will be second only to Kinect in how you operate your console. It could be a remote control when you’re watching TV, a browser when you’re on the internet, extra buttons and information when playing a game or a portable display when you want to take your game with you.

If the next Xbox is starting to sound awfully expensive, you’d be right. 360 launched at £279 while PS3 launched at £425, so – we’re speculating here – £399 wouldn’t be an unprecedented figure to put on a machine with Kinect and a touch controller in the box. Microsoft are playing safe with the CPU and GPU but running wild with the functions that will change how you play, but it won’t be cheap. Expect to see the next Xbox at E3 this June.

Yup, time to let the delusions die, guys. The Wii U will not be outclassed by anything in terms of power.

Seeing how horrible the console sales are right now, makes me wonder when Nintendo is going to release the Wii U. I really hope it's at the end of August.

Ah, the meltdowns in the other thread over a rumor are glorious. I almost hope it's true, because hundreds of college-students writing paragraphs of miss-spelled ranting would be an amazing thing to spend hours at work reading.

Not sure I quite get that...

There are two parts to it. You have those out there that are expecting a huge leap in power again. And you have those (some fall under both) that can't get past Nintendo making a console with competitive power. So when they see that Wii U is not blown away, they would most likely call the others weak instead of acknowledging Nintendo "returning to normal" with hardware development for their home console. Because of this mindset that the other consoles are "inferior" due to Wii U being in the same ballpark, they will go to PC to get better graphics.

But...

Nintendo has only been under the other 2 in term of power for ONE gen, because Nintendo made a gamble of Gameplay and Accessibility > Graphics and Horsepower.
