Minimalist designs are the best looking, but impractical for actual commercial use.
You want a potential costumer to identify what console the game is for as they walk by the aisle.
The more effort the costumer has to make to find a product, the least likely the costumer will bother to look.
That's why box art designs come with those big distracting banners on top or the side of the box, to grab people's attention.
Sure, we would all love to have stuff like this:

But in reality, this is what we will get:

Nothing "casual" in you, is just that Wario Ware really kicks ass.
Smooth Moves still one of the best wii games around.
And it also showed a lot of what the wiimote could do.
Unfortunally, nobody did anything with the wiimote

More likely that that is just the cycle of speculation ITT.
But then why are the Japanese allowed to get awesome stuff like this?

Even we used to get nice stuff

Not too bad.
idk japan's weird
They always have the best box art.
It also didn't sell.
If Zelda took place in a Portal 2-like environment where you were just walking forward and solving puzzles, I'd consider that to be an improvement. Other people would see that as the worst possible step backward from the open, epic, exploratory nature of the games they treasure.
No Zelda game is ever going to be approved by everyone again, unless they specifically go back to A Link to the Past and make the exact same game with different dungeons, story, and items. Then only a vocal minority will outright hate it.
The best Nintendo can do right now is finding the biggest market Zelda can appeal to and make the series just for them. Everyone's just vying to for their tastes to be that market now.
Hey folks. Havent updated the OP in a couple weeks because I haven't seen anything newsworthy. Is there something relevant and newthat I have missed?
Edit: A LttP non 3D sequel makes the Wii U a day one purchase. Its the game I've wanted most over the last 20 years.![]()
A game just like A Link to the Past is not going to work to appeal to everyone, especially if they grew up with the 3D games.
Uhhh, well UE4 will likely run on the Wii U, since it only requires a 1TFLOP GPU (for 720p).
And that is possible on the rumored GPU specs for the Wii U?
Unless you're a crazy person that somehow believes it's using an RV730.We know that the Wii U has a > 1TFLOP GPU.
And it only takes a 4.4x power increase over the 360 to get UE4 to run at 720p.

That looks like pants unzipping.
Retro Zelda doesn't have the same mass appeal as Retro Mario. Ocarina of Time is the Zelda everyone raves about to the point it's annoying and a lot of these people don't care at all about Link to the Past. Or even know it exists.
Going back to LttP is exactly what I've been asking for the last few years. Basically ever since I played OoT and realized it wasn't for me. Seriously, that would be the killer app to end all killer apps for me.
i thought we just confirmed we don't want alttp. You guys can have your dull Zelda

We need something the scale of Wind Waker but instead of the ocean it's all densely packed world ala the original LoZ. Nintendo haven't been able to achieve this since they've been working w/ basically the same hardware for 3 games in a row.
Yeah, I was referring to specialguy.Custom 32nm design is the widespread speculation round here.
New! Legend of Zelda with ALTTP world density and some cool usages of the Wii U controller would be so damn cool. I remember pitching an idea where a game like that had an aesthetic like a stained glass window and the gameplay on the controller would reflect this with colder areas "frosting up" the viewpoint, glares of light would come in from a radiant area outdoors, and puzzles could be interactive using light elements from Phantom Hourglass or by moving the controller about for "fuller" views of the area.
Of course my junior developer ideas are probably trash tier, but I love the idea of New LoZ and a stained glass art direction too much.
You are right. "High resolution" and "high definition" are terms that have been thrown around for decades:

some more random thoughts:
- Just so long as the Wii U web browser isn't completely gimped, Flash/HTML5 games and web apps could end up being a big deal on the Wii U. While there were some sites out there made for the Wii browser which had some halfway-decent Wii-based Flash games, they were seriously hampered by Wii's lack of power and memory. This time around, and especially because of the touch screen, I have to expect we'll be seeing more and better offerings.
Yeah, the 3DS's browser is amazingly optimized.
Well, the ground does feel like pants...
Which begs the question, since Kirby doesn't wear any pants, how does he know what pants feel like?
A new 2d Zelda like lttp would be awesome.
Alternatively, Nintendo could get Dark Souls on WiiU. Same thing![]()

Samaritan isn't going to run on any of the systems as it was.
They were always going to have to make concessions for the consoles.
Always.
But that's neither here nor there.
UE4 is what we're talking about.
