Maybe, too many fingers.
Anyway, the point is that for marketing they are able to do their own thing, which is why that iPhone app exists.

Wouldnt be too much of a leap to suggest simple advertorial apps for other nintendo IPs could be a possibility, probably not for things like mario but as a way to promote lesser IPs it could be effective, i suppose it depends how effective nintendo think the pokemon app was for promoting pokemon (not like it was needed though)

True. That dude spreading outdated information on Twitter and possibly discouraging potential developers certainly is an issue, though.

Good point. Though, any developer worth their salt most likely won't be swayed by this guy. His tweets come across as childish.

Oui c'est un gros fake mon truc sur le futur de #Nintendo ! Mais c'est ce que j'aurais dit si j'étais Iwata ! @JulienChieze

Yes. It's a great fake by me about the future of Nintendo. But it's what I would do if i was Iwata.
Yes, Iwata should definitely assume that both Microsoft and Sony will be squeezed out of the market while Nintendo survives, declare Apple the main competitor of the future, and then support Apple with content.

I'm sorry for how that came across, but I'm just saying that I disagree. It seems extremely flawed.

We all know that anyone claiming they're smarter than Iwata is crazy, so it's ok.

Yeah, like ordering a pizza you know you don't like, and bitch about it afterward how bad it was.
To me, the situation sounds more like ordering a pizza that might not look good, but you want to give it a try anyway. Then after trying it, you have a more concrete opinion about it. Now, clearly it is fair to say "why did you try it if it didnt look good?", so the complain level shouldnt be that high after that in my opinion.

But then the pizza company makes an awesome looking pizza and you say "No, I refuse to try it because I had a subpar experience before."

I think we are overlooking that Miyamoto basically said his teams were working on Pikmin 3, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and a couple of small but important projects for Wii U.

I am guessing the small mii projects that may turn into 2-3 games again. Wii U Sports, Wii U Play, and others. (Not counting Wii U Fit).

I'm betting more on eShop games for the Wii U.

Not if it is EAD. All the small affiliate Japanese studios will probably be servicing that for the meanwhile. Just like the 3DS eshop.

His smaller teams likely aren't EAD, though.
He's probably working with the newer people (as he said a few months ago) and will be kind of guiding and teaching them.
And eShop games make sense for that.

I stressed on that two times yesterday but well :p

I really think the E3 2011 demos like Chase Mii will be polished and completed, then released in a compilation or bundled in. + Nintendo Network "small but important" titles.

I think Chase Mii is kind of limited. But that Battle Mii game.. that could be turned into a full game by itself. A third person party shooter featuring nintendo characters. SELL SELL SELL!!

Yeah perhaps. But we are not sure if that actually went down just yet. Who knows. I think theres supposed to be a big or semi restructure this December when they start moving into the new facility. Maybe Miyamoto will announce something then.

Which makes it perfect to be bundled in like Face Raiders and Find Mii are on 3DS...

Find Mii is one of the best pack-ins/preloaded games in a long time, and a genius way to utilize a hardware feature. Nintendo definitely needs to think outside of the box like that with Wii U's preloaded games.

Of course, it will depend on the depth of the game, if it's limited, then bundled in or gathered in a compilation, if it's retail title material, then release as such or through Nintendo Network. They have a wide range of distribution methods now.

But they need a bundled in (through pre-installed software on the flash or a disc) way to demonstrate instantly, without any additional buying, the interest of the padlet for gameplay/gamedesign. And the Miyamoto interview hint to that:

Miyamoto, who throughout the interview kept smiling even when to change the subject because "it isn't the time" to talk about the Wii U, believes the experience and new game modes of this new console will not be "readily replicated by another device ", which will come out victorious from the new competition of the tablets.

They must show the bold part directly, ala Wii Sports, and i guess it's in part from this necessity that come his statement "small but important projects", small in depth, in scope, in length, but important to constitute a showcase of the Wii U superior experience capabilities.

Tony Hawk on Wii U ?

In this IGN article mainly about Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD, the guy, aware of the decline of the genre

"When our game was hitting really hard [around 1999] there were roughly 10-15 top games that were go-tos. Now there are only three or four that are the standard. If you're not a first-person shooter at this point you're kind of struggling," Hawk said. "If you're not Call of Duty, you're not Halo, it's super tricky out there."

is expressing his hope to bring it to future systems, like the Wii U:

Pro Skater HD aims to stimulate the part of your brain that keeps you hooked on high scores, replaying levels in two-minute chunks, and besting your friends' ranks. It worked 13 years ago. Who's to say Tony Hawk can't bottle lightning yet again?

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD is the start of what Hawk hopes to be another trend in skateboarding games. Of course it's meant to remind long-time fans that this series still rules, despite recent entries unsuccessful new ideas, and that there's enough life left in it to facilitate a future. If Pro Skater HD takes off, Hawk may yet realize his dream of infusing the old formula with original stages.

More importantly, this could be what brings the genre back from its recently discovered grave. "[In a few years] I would love to still be here and take advantage of new consoles as they come," Hawk said, "including Wii-U and whatever else they have in the pipe."

Ps: i told you Ace, "Avenging Skateboard" will launch on Wii U !! :D

Still an issue. With it's tablet controller the Wii-U would have been a nice fit for this game.

Regardless, when someone is asked about porting a game to the platform and they essentially reply "No fucking way!", it's an issue.

So, MS should redesign their controller just for a PC port?

I would not support a dev that is so negative about a platform, I would make me question the quality of the game being forced on it

it is a non-issue I don't see why its even a news story, its more of a troll than news

You're right. Nintendo should do something about it.

Oh wait. They already did. Welp.

So, MS should redesign their controller just for a PC port?

Why would they do that? MS are already the kings of 3rd party support, they don't need to.

Also, the gripes about the controller are applicable to a small number of other games. Writing off the entire service sends a much, much stronger message. One that Nintendo really ought to counter (unless what the guy is saying is true).

To be fair, I'm coming from a place where Nintendo need to go balls out to attract 3rd parties next time around. Full on blowjobs & cocaine for exclusives. I don't think many Nintendo fans feel that way as long as the first party stuff keeps coming.

Maybe they ought to tell people then, or at least respond to this tweet.

OK, I really don't understand your viewpoint at all, but OK.

I'm with you here.

But all these twitter quote wars are childish, people can change their mind, maybe the guy has an history with Nintendo, but if the community prove to him that there is a fair pool of customers for an old-school rpg revival on the Wii U, the situation may be unlocked. Actually, from my experience, there are TONS of gamers who where since their childhood mainly "PC & Nintendo" centered, combining the innovation & polished gameplay & cool franchises of Big N, with the depth & addiction & more "mature" & graphical showcases for certain titles & online before its implementation on console of PC universe.

He appear like a stubborn developer with a grudge against Nintendo. The correct approach is to mini-operation-rainfall him, convince him to change his position, rather than engaging a "lulz you treated the Wii by using the toy word, i hate you and i curse you, yeah, you and your 50 following generation to be forced in a particular moment in your life to eat 100 kilos of outdated french cheese in less than 5 minutes >< !!!!!!!"

You know what?
I agree that Nintendo really needs to increase their relationship with third parties.
They should do something, for sure.
But if a developers says those things, well I think that the main problem is on third party side in this case. Those are just excuses and nonsense, as the ones underlined for the 360 versions.

I understand your point, and I understand the need to increase the quality of the relationship between N and western developers, but I don't think that they (N) or we (gaffers) should always look at third parties as "perfect", and still be able to distinguish between the different situations we are allowed to read through the web.

If N made mistakes with third parties (and I think that they did a lot of mistakes in the past), well best solution should have been to "tweet" simply the truth, and not some bullshits as the ones he pointed out against the Wii (or the 360 controller..obviously another excuse)

Why? It's not like it'll change this guy's mind, especially since he probably already knows. He's just being childish and stupid, and Nintendo has far more important things to deal with than rebutting a couple of tweets.

Oh HELL NO, fans should not support trolls
there is no excuse for anyone of us here to have more information on facts than a dev
you don't want to work with Nintendo just man up and be honest about it but posting outdated info and trolling a console because you are frustrated should not get you support or this much attention

fixed :p

Well, the Tony Hawk interview clearly show the good-will of the man himself to work on Wii U :)

For Space Quest, i have reformulated my message :)

when all these fun projects end up selling jack on WiiU than we can all bitch about it

I don't really need everything on this system only what would work best for it... why bring back Tony Hawk of all things?

The correct approach is to behave in such manner (by telling him how the Nintendo policy has changed, how he hastily overlooked how numerous the BG fans that feel in the same time close to Nintendo are and how negatively they could react to his sentences, etc.) that himself recognize that he went a bit too far with his statement (and a lot of people trap themselves like that because of the immediacy and ease-of-use of twitter), rather than engaging a war of bitterness and resentment for years to come against him, like "hey is this the guy who said XXX about Wii U ? lulz, i just ignore him and hate him since then".

Just my jedi mentality :p

I'm sorry, but some Tony Hawk's were really fun, i would want that the hypothetic come back of the genre will touch the Wii U also, i could see a lot of fun gamedesign applications of the padlet to this kind of games :p

We can have AND the quality, AND the quantity my little teddy bear :)

Nintendo must of ran over many people's dogs and have plenty of enemies because of it
there are plenty of platforms for those people

we seriously need to stop kissing these people's asses, it won't do us any good begging them to love Nintendo
