I also didn't get a smartphone until November of last year, and used a computer with a Pentium 4, Intel IGP, and 512MB DDR until 2010.first late on the script and now wayyy late on HDTVs. TBH I'm not even sure how you live.

Actually this might be a good time to ask: What would/should Mario look like on an HD console?
In my opinion SMG graphics in HD with some anti-aliasing would be satisfactory, but what, theoretically speaking, would Mario assets look like on this level of hardware? Maybe something closer to the CG art or just SMG graphics with more rounded models?
Also: I don't even know what framerate Nintendo's first party Wii games run at.

Wii U is why I bought my Panasonic, well that and I wanted an HDTV anyway.
I'm looking forward to Retro's game reveal as well but I don't see that as likely to be their biggest hold back. I think we're going to see a ton of games revealed from Nintendo for launch, launch window, and into next year. I think it could be something totally unexpected too, maybe a new Wario game for example. Multiple AAA titles at launch and launch window. I think Nintendo figures their titles tend to evergreen so they might as well be released in proximity.
Plinko - MK64 was launch window, I don't think it's impossible. I mean, even if not AT launch, could make it right after the holidays.
Edit: wait, a year later? Nevermind.

Launch title, easily. It's been in development for way too long to miss launch.
Yeah, I was referring to how recently Mario Kart 7 came out and the time they'd need to work on the Wii U version. I just don't see it happening.
My guess is we see the next one at holidays of 2014.
yeah I could see Nintendo showing a whole "things to come" thing to get people hyped. Hell I wouldn't even rule out a Zelda teaser.I'm looking forward to Retro's game reveal as well but I don't see that as likely to be their biggest hold back. Edit2: eh, close enough.
Oh man, Pikmin with select options on a touchscreen. That's fucking perfect!
group them, give orders, send them off, make them hum.
In glourious HD!
*yawn* can't wait!

Woah! Dudes! My junior virginity is gone! Yeah!

Yeah, keep in mind that while they could rush out a launch window "Mario Kart: U Dash", it would be a lot better for us if they actually spent a full development cycle to make it godly.
Historians note: "godly" = "free for all local multiplayer battle mode, preferably where you turn into a Bob-omb after dying"
More detailed environments I'm guessing.

Congratulations!
Several pages back ppl talked about "dark" games from Nintendo.
Actually Pikmin is quite "dark" or even "sad" in a lot of means... I don't know how different English version is, but there are lots of "darkness" in Japanese versions. Nintendo even published a video to show how different kinds of Pikmin can die in different situations... yes a video full of "death" from Nintendo itself...
My words, you're speaking them. E3 will be a miserable failure for Nintendo in my eyes if Pikmin isn't there.
Edit: Also you gys that bought HDTVs just for the WiiU are either crazy or you don't watch televison. You've literally been missing YEARS of glorious high definition television.
Thanks!Congratulations!

Or helps set the standard of how Wii U's online component should be utilized.
Dito here. Bought my first HDTV, a Panasonic, in January this year mainly because of the Wii U coming. I figured since i'd finished with Zelda my SD gaming days were behind me.
Thanks!
also: genocide/mass suicide is pretty common in pikmin. It always had a strange undertone.

Perhaps, but I would very much hope that they didn't take away yet another fantastic local multi game from my arsenal. There are so few left as it is.![]()
I'd wager a timing guess:
Holiday 2013: Mario 3D
Holiday 2014: Mario Kart
Holiday 2015: Zelda
I can't stand little Pikmin crying out as they die.. so sad.
At the same time, I'm curious to see what kind of new Pikmins we get.. and new ways for them to die.

Reminds me of the intro to Mario Galaxy 1. Same exact thing.Someone mentioned this a while back but they should make a mario game with crazy shit happening in the distance.

Truly is majestic.
Thank goodness someone is in the console space. :/For you to specifically say "local" I can tell how you feel. We can only blame the overall direction of gaming for this, though I still see Nintendo holding strong to the local philosophy.
I think Nintendo should let you name their games. Perfection.. haha!My holiday ruminations are relatively steadfast at:
Holiday 2012: Pikmin Armada
Early/mid 2013: NSMBM
Holiday 2013: Mario Kart: U Dash
Early/mid 2014: Super Mario Adventure
Holiday 2014: Super Smash Cousins
Holiday 2015: The Legend of Zelda: The Secret of Right Handedness
…I forgot about 3D Mario back then. I'm thinking it can come along after Nintendo's blown its 2D Mario and Mario Kart loads.

The music played a role in that tone pretty well. Sometimes it contrasted the chaos and death, and other times it served to build it up so that things were even tenser. Really well-done without being too overbearing.
This Pikmin talk is frustrating.

The screen above is not a shot from the game, it's a real-life shot.

Yes... And those item descriptions. The most memorable one is a very old d-pad and its name is "glorious stone" (directly translated from Jap cuz I didn't play Eng version) and those things related Nintendo... I don't know, it just felt so sad when I read them for the first time or maybe it was because the background music. And you can find a lot of black humors as well.
I didn't miss out on much, HD is still in it's infancy over here in the UK, we only have 4 HD channels (on freeview) and they only became available last year (i think). I don't watch alot of TV so I couldn't justify paying for a Sky HD sub.

Actually, I think that "Pikmin United" would be a genuinely non-jokey good name which both makes sense in the context of that series's universe and plays with the systems so-far not renamed name.

Oh, just me expressing impatience..Pikmin is awesome, what's frustrating about it?
What if in Pikmin 3 you play as a regular sized human on the tv and as Olimar on the controller.
Honestly,I'm kinda wondering when humans will make more of an appearance in Pikmin games. Or are they going to be like Niles' wife on Frasier, where they're a constant off-screen character?
"Pikmin United" makes me think that they are going to chain/coordinate attacks or that several will combine to form Super Pikmin for special moves.

I like the later idea, Pikmin powers combine to form the ultimate puzzle solving genius - Captain Miyamoto!
I thought the implication was that they were all dead or at least left the planet.
EDIT: Yeah, Pikmin Wiki says that Miyamoto said in an interview that the planet is in a state where "humans are extinct."
Welp, that explains things. Definitely makes sense.
I just hope that they don't decide to go a route where they expose why the humans are gone. Keep it whimsical.

Once again I have to go back to my RTS/FPS hybrid where you have your base on the controller and you can either help defend it with your guy or go out and do quests and gather resources. One thing i've been wondering about. What do you guys expect to see from controller/TV gameplay stuff in single player? I know there will be the more obvious stuff like inventory management and minigames type stuff that is touch based. But will it be any advantages to play something on the controller screen using the analog slider and buttons? (not thinking about streaming the game). Or what else can be done?
