Was stuck in school all day. Finally back home (GAF) :)

Jools Watsham's (Renegade Kid) blog is the perfect response to Oster's nonsense.
I posted this in the other thread too. Jools shows how Devs can publish a game on a Nintendo platform and make a profit from it. (He had a hit with Mutant Mudds on the 3DS.)

I like this guy. I think I'm going to turn on my 3DS for the first time in a while and make a purchase ;)

So who's conference are yet to be dated? EA, Konami and Nintendo, is that it?

Does Capcom have anything or is it just a panel like the previous years? Also I'm hoping Konami's conference is great as the looping one.

Ice.. remember when I said I like seeing you around here?
This is why.

The darkness - it is yummy. It's sweet.. almost like what I imagine a Maxim Tomato would taste like. :)
Good to know I'm not the only one who enjoys the taste. I'd say it tastes a little tangy with a hint of cinnamon. Tastes, oddly, delicious.

That's why I'm here. I have way too much excess darkness, and I feel lighter every time I visit this thread.

You're welcome.

Kind of partial to Arizona Tea recently. But I'll take a cold Coke over tea any day, if it weren't for potential kidney stones.

Kidney stones are the DEVIL! I'll take a root canal before another friggin' kidney stone!

I love the darkness, especially coming from da haters!

Just a few hours ago I did not know what Mutant Mudds was...now I own it.

I don't know about fans.. but from a business standpoint

When you see someone with so much, but so little of it actually goes your way. You want to lash out. I mean why can't the golden secret be shared with all
Maybe but in the long run it still sounds like sour grapes.

And to me, saying 'You buy a Wii, play Wii Sports and that's it' is almost as dumb as someone being brazen enough to say back in the day that "People just get the NES to play Duck Hunt with that toy Zapper gun."

Especially when the statistics show that the Wii is in the same attachment rate neighborhood of the PS3. Yet.. we never, ever hear such a thing about that console.

Mind-boggling.

Yup. I've been a Platinum Club Nintendo member two years in a row, thank goodness for all those endless party and casual games which helped me do that....

What statistics? Latest I could find is that early 2009 PS3 attatch rate had overtaken Wii's.

Your link shows that "the Wii is in the same attachment rate neighborhood of the PS3", agreeing with what HylianTom said.

GRAAAAAAAAAARGH

Every time I do a search and try to find official software shipment numbers, every freaking link is "that site"

edit:

http://www.gamespot.com/news/ds-sales-top-144-million-wii-nears-85-million-6287017
Here, the tie ratio for the Wii is 8.21. This means that the average person bought 8 titles other than Wii Sports (save for Japan, where Wii Sports is a retail title).

looking for PS3 data....
Oh, wait, I can check garaph!

edit:

Nope, garaph only gives hardware shipments, bleh.

RAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGHRRW#H, I found a site with Sony numbers which wasn't from that site. After collating all the date, I noticed that it used that site as the source!

edit: Okay, I don't know if this site is reliable, but I'll look for something better but use it as a WAG placeholder for now:
http://www.carter4.org/blog/?p=251

It claims that as of March 2011, the PS3 has shipped 438m software units, and 50m hardware units.

This makes the PS3's tie ratio 8.76.

I would consider 8.76 and 8.21 to be in the same neighborhood.

Caveats: I couldn't find the data for the same time frame. The PS3's information is for the quarter after. Tie ratios tend to increase as a system ages, so that that for what it's worth. Also, the first link seemed legitimate, but the second is incredibly sketchy, so YMMV. Also, the Wii has a pack-in, which means that people buying the system already have a game, whereas customers must buy a game at the time of their system purchase. Then again, the PS3 plays Blu-rays, so it has non-gaming usefulness. I dunno, these are always the fanboy explanations for explaining why tie ratios are what they are. :D

I checked for references to that site but could not find them. I apologize if any of these numbers (especially from that second site) end up coming from there. Not the intent.

edit: bolded the conclusion to avoid Wall of Text Syndrome

Do you think we'll see a different colour Pikmin this time round?
If so, what powers will they have?

Perhaps a Pikmin with the power of flight? You send two or three up in the air to scout ahead and transmit video to the tablet controller. Kinda like insect drones.

I'd also like to submit this url:
http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Software_tie_ratio

This shows the early tie ratios of the systems as well as tie ratios of previous gen systems.

For example, at 30 months, the Playstation 2's tie ratio was 6.5. It eventually grew to 12.4 (as of January 2004), and it's probably even higher now, as people continue to even now buy (small amounts of) software without purchasing systems.

As for patents related to Wii U, here's the most recent I believe: http://appft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph...s1=Nintendo.AS.&OS=AN/Nintendo&RS=AN/Nintendo

One little snippet I find interesting:

Of course this doesn't have to come to fruition, but if it does it would be kinda nice.

it looks like that patent is an update of one from middle of last year.
http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/27461 <--NWR summary of the patent from Aug 2011
Finally, the patent application also details a mode of operation in which the game system cooperates with TV broadcasting, where the controller can display information about programs while the TV is being watched. While users can input the current channel into the controller to download information, the application also mentions the ability for the controller to directly control the TV through either the use of the infrared emitter on the Wii U controller, the Wii sensor bar, or the Wii U controller's integrated sensor bar.

not sure what was updated though.

To further support the thread title (and because I had nothing to do) I made a Metroid Dread poster. I wish I would've made it bigger but that's just what I ended up with -___-
Oh, and it's a compilation of images from the internet, I just manipulated them, just in case somebody here made the logo or something!

I desperately want to see what Nintendo is capable of doing with a 2D game on the Wii U when they are actually trying *looks at NSMB Mii*

One thing Trent said about Wiiware that I hope Nintendo doesn't repeat with Wii U's shop.

We were not allowed to set the price, Nintendo set the pricing, telling us after a week it would be 1000 points.

I don't like the idea of Nintendo setting prices. I hope with the eshop, developers are the ones setting the prices.

Also, Nintendo needs to let developers have the option to price their game super low if they want to. I don't see any games on eshop right now that are lower than $2.

Nintendo should allow $1 games on the Wii U shop.

It would also be nice if devs/pubs could change their prices at will, like doing a sudden sale, without having to do anything more complex than logging into ushop.warioware.com, mouse-wheeling a spinbox, and clicking a button.

Nintendo does need to learn the term laissez faire. Also, I hope I spelled that correctly.

Oh I agree. I wish publishers could do sales on their games.

Like Sega could do a sale on their Genesis virtual console games, etc.

The idea that Genesis games are still $8 on virtual console is ridiculous.

I believe they do. (Let devs set pricing) When we learned that Mutant Mudds was $9, Jools justified his reasoning for the price it was.

Samus vs. 100 red Pikimin, I don't know who wins man.

Captain Falcon showed how easy it is to kill multiple pikmin at once in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Best scene in the whole campaign.

I think the dev approaches Nintendo with a price in mind, and they have to approve it.

I am going to bake a pikmin carrot cake for the night I pick it up. I will take piks.

If there's a brown Pikmin, I'd love a pikmin-shaped death by chocolate cake. With a little green frosting sprout on the top.

Dammit.. it's too late to be baking a cake.

Also: 48 DAYS REMAIN!

Am I the only one who is always surprised at how low attach rates are. I mean throughout the life of a console the average person only buys 8-9 games?

When I was a kid I was lucky to have like five games before a generation was over.

Blockbuster Video was the shit back then.

We are not average people. First console I owned more than about 10 games for was the 360.
