They won't actually be the same game since that's impossible in the end, because the 3DS game will have to be designed with 3D in mind. But they could still work together somehow.
A new nsmb for both Wii U and 3DS would be the worst possible outcome.
I'd like to at least see a new art style implemented with the 3DS title.
An interview of Alex Ness (Toys for Bob producer) about Skylanders Giants
There's a tiny bit about a Wii U game from the franchise:
If there is a multiplatform 2d mario game I fear it will look almost exactly like NSMBwii on the 3ds and NSMBmii on the wii u, one being 3d and the other being hd. I don't know if that makes any sense but I could see Nintendo doing that because its probably cheaper that way.
Sorry did a mistake...
then the softwarenumbers for US should be:
Xbox360: 333970000 sotware units with around 36700000 HW-units
PS3: 190070000 sotware units with around 22900000 HW-units
Wii: 328790000 sotware units with around 42700000 HW-units
Not that good than before but still very good I would say!!
That feels rightish.
Aha, I did some more hunting. Life to date Hardware sales in the US based on NPD data as of the end of November 2011. A quick check of December 2011 NPD numbers should give a solid total LTD to end of 2011. So somebody do that.
Anyway, through 2011 November:
DS 50,530,001
Wii 37,624,494
Xbox 360 30,934,373
PlayStation 3 19,041,921
3DS 2,462,000
http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/NPD_December_2011 (we still trust vgsales wikia, right?)
Wii - 1,060,000
Xbox 360 - 1,700,000
PS3 - 936,000
So totals would be:
Wii=51,590,001
Xbox 360=32,634,373
PS3=19,977,921
So software totals from the aforementioned legit looking source:
Wii=397,243,008
Xbox 360=296,972,794
PS3=165,816,744
I forgot why were we playing current-gen sales age on this next-gen spec thread again?

too bad it seems like the launch is in mid novemberso DarkSiders 2 is being delayed till sometime in August ,,,,, maybe to coincide with WiiU launch ???
I think we're stuck with that style for at least these two titles. Who knows for afterwards, though..So we have Iwata announcing at GDC(?) or somewhere that a 2d mario game is in the works for the 3ds and now Miyamoto and Nintendo PR confirming that a new 2d mario game based on NSMBmii will be shown at E3?
These games must be inter-related somehow, it seems like a bad move to release 2 not related 2d mario games in the same year, and I'm assuming both of these games will be released sometime in 2012 or else Nintendo shouldn't be talking about them yet.
But how "related" can they be? Cross platform play? And for the love of god no more NSMBds/wii artstyle.

Do you guys think, that it would be possible to play all Virtual Console games on UPad screen? I think it would be a nice feature.
I just have this strange feeling that it isnt !! I dont know why but it seems like a late august launch for me ( or I wish for)
you mixed up wii with ds
The only thing that should be a sure sign of an incoming Nintendo doom is a positive Pachter comment about Nintendos future.
As long as he keeps saying "But but but... NOW there doomed! For sure this time!", everything is fine. I call it the "Pachter reverse rule"

A summer release was probably nintendos plan originally and they probably thought one of their competitors would've released this year also, when they knew that wasnt happening they pushed back til xmas
YouTube is developing a "TV experience" for next-generation consoles. In a job listing on Google Jobs, the company advertises that it's hiring a Game Console Software Engineer to develop "versions of YouTube to work with next generation game consoles.
The listing notes that the engineer will "build the next generation game-console-based TV experience with YouTube video content" and "integrate and optimize with distribution channels and devices including all major game platforms." It also specifically notes that candidates will need "deep technical knowledge of Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3 and/or Nintendo Wii." YouTube already exists as an app for Xbox 360, so this position could be to expand the service onto the PS3 and Wii-U markets.
We've reached out to YouTube for comment, as well as Nintendo. Sony and Microsoft declined to comment.
I hope not.
Kinda hoping that E3 demo from last year was just something they put together quickly. I'm still holding out for a new art style.
Because ideally a dual-screen set up will allow for games that just wouldn't work on one display.
Mandating that games have to work in every combination possible would actually work against getting the best out of the system, and developers thinking outside the box. Expect it for some, but not all. I also think Nintendo won't put such requirements on 3rd parties, they've generally let them pick and choose what features of a system to support.
It will be more confusing for consumers, but this feature IS confusing. You have 2 totally different ideas at odds with each other, it's one of the weaknesses of the whole Wii U concept along with the one controller issue if that remains a problem.
They'll give us a new art style once the current art style stops selling in perpetual beast mode. Being two of the highest selling games of the generation would encourage Nintendo to make the games visually similar, even if they massively muck around with the mechanics, as they are apt to.
Looks like there's a good chance Wii U will have a nice, dedicated YouTube app:
http://m.ign.com/articles/2012/04/17/youtube-developing-for-next-gen-consoles
I'm very excited about this as I used to watch MST3K episodes on my Wii browser all the time (non-DVD released eps) until the browser stopped being updated. Now all YouTube vids will stop playing after 5-10 min. And if they're starting development now, hopefully that means it will be available at/soon after the Wii U app store is launched.

That is exactly the problem and you explained it well. I thought about that a long time ago as soon as they started talking about innovative features AND streaming. They don't go well together.
The Wii Pad screen will likely be used as a convenient menu / HUD 95% of the time when using the TV. When the game is played on the pad only, then you'll have to go through a menu screen like normal.
Games that use touch will still be playable most of the time (I'm thinking in a Fruit Ninja kind of way) but anything that's truly innovative would pose a problem. Either streaming WILL be mandatory or there's gonna be stickers/feature sets on the front of the box saying "stream compatible." Personally I think it's better to just ensure compatibility across the board to lower consumer confusion. Additional schemes can be added optionally that don't have a significant impact on gameplay (rear view mirror on first person racing game, etc).
Oh, and for the split screen solution some members are tossing out: Think about that for a bit. Look at your 3ds screen or iPhone screen sideways, and realize how shitty it would be to play like that.
Wii U should no more be able to run 3DS code than it can run PS3 code.botty said:I actually don't see why all eShop games wouldn't also be available for Wii U/Upad. Take away the 3D and you've still got the core mechanics of those games.
The search function will instantly be 100x better, that's for sure. I just hope it doesn't take as long for them to release it as the 360 version did.Nice. Hopefully it's better than the on on the 360.
so DarkSiders 2 is being delayed till sometime in August ,,,,, maybe to coincide with WiiU launch ???
AMAZING avatar man!
I changed it a little. I hope you dont mind![]()
I like! Haha.. It'd make for a funny t-shirt.![]()
So the 360 and PS3 are getting a Bond collection of sorts. And we know Skyfall is heading to Wii U.
Wonder if Nintendo got some exclusive deal for the game.
Or maybe complete exclusive. Get the game out around the same time as the movie to help drive system awareness. What do you mean? Like timed exclusive?

Just a thought.

I'd be willing to spend another 50 dollars on the Wii U if that went towards increasing the range of the controller. That's my one real concern about Wii U.

How far is the range? I don't see it being much of an issue either way though, if it's meant to be a controller primarily.

I was wondering the same thing. Or maybe Shiggy's non-reveal was actually about 007 Collection?
All I want in a Wii U Bond game is a baccarat mini-game where your cards are concealed on the subscreen, and the TV view is first person of your opponents sitting around the table.
We haven't been told yet. Presumably, it'll work well with line of sight distance at any reasonable point in a living room. Figure at least fifteen feet, twenty feet if they want to cover their bases. After that, or if a wall's involved, all bets are off and you'll likely see massive artifacting or tearing.
Just a WAG.
Anyway, we need it to be extended so we can go to the bathroom without needing to ask our moms to bring the bucket.
If that's true, that's disappointing. I like the idea of having the console in the living room and being able to play the Wii pad in the bedroom, for example, and around the house. Maybe that's unrealistic, do we really know much about the technology limitations yet? It would really suck if you go out of range and the game crashes.
…that's totally wicked!
It makes me want to randomly buy a Vii.

You guys! The "game" section on this tablet's advert has like seven Super Mario icons, a Link, and a StarFox! It's basically being pushed as a cheap up-to-N64 emulator (but is also a low-spec Android machine).
This one is actually tempting, as shitty West-of-Pacific knock-offs go.
edit: I see you all covered this stuff really, but I wanted to just post my knee-jerk reaction anyway.![]()
Oh man. I'm not the kind of person who collects anything, but after Kid Icarus's cards, I know Sakurai will think about using figurines for Smash Bros., Skylanders-style, and if he does that, I'm going to lose so much money...
