It's going to be very interesting watching hardcore gamers and meda outlets react to the implementation of Nintendo's ideas in the other two's new consoles. Will they accept it? Embrace it?Well despite objections made after your post, you'd have to wonder if it was actually Nintendo that had it's head on straight.
While their competitors focused almost solely in online infrastructure, Nintendo toyed with an experiment on the Gamecube in the form of connectivity. This was, of course, seen as a crude gimmick because how could anybody ever want that when they can play shooters on the internet.
Well, the lessons Nintendo learned with connectivity between two screens were put to use a scant 3 years later, along with a touchscreen, and this was, again initially thought to be a stupid gimmick that nobody would ever want because who would want that when you can play neutered PS2 ports on the PSP. The DS needs no description as a monumental success, as it is the most popular video game system ever, and Nintendo took all the negative licks for the touch-screens in electronics that have become every present today.
The lessons learned on the touch-screen, and from WarioWare Twisted provided the basis for the Wii's motion control which was, again, thought to be a stupid gimmick that nobody would ever touch. Obviously both the Wii and the DS made Nintendo countless billions of dollars and probably made half the entire industry's revenue, despite said industry wishing to shun Nintendo (or at least the Wii).
Who's to say Nintendo wasn't investing in the right ideas all along? Maybe it was the others who were dragged kicking and screaming into alternative controls? At least that's what the market would indicate.
I just had a thought: The Wii-U could potentially make system link LAN parties a bit easier.
From what I understand the hardest and most expensive part is probably lugging over a monitor or TV for each system. With the Wii-U though, every player could potentially just stream the game to the touch screen, meaning that each system brought to a LAN party would only need a power source and potentially system link cables (or whatever).
Was thinking the same last night. Dream: 2 Wii U, 1 TV screen with scores & light stuff, 8 players with their own Upad.I just had a thought: The Wii-U could potentially make system link LAN parties a bit easier.

We get folks all the time who wish Nintendo would die, etc.. and no one bats a friggin' eye.A little too blunt apparently.
Still don't know who it was that banned me, hope it wasn't EC cause I like him.
If that BoM rumor is true, then it still wouldn't be sold for $299 and at profit.
No comment...We get folks all the time who wish Nintendo would die, etc.. and no one bats a friggin' eye.
All you guys talking about how many copies NSMB sold.
But did it sell that many copies on its own merits because it was truly a good game, or did it sell that many copies because there wasn't anything else worth buying if you wanted to purchase a Wii game?
In that case, I'm going to have crazy all-night Mario Kart parties.. holy crap, such goodness..Was thinking the same last night. Dream: 2 Wii U, 1 TV screen with scores & light stuff, 8 players with their own Upad.
That's all I wanted to note. No more from me, as it's in the past.No comment...
OMG... I guess we can look forward to more posts like this when the Wii U comes round..

I need to start a collection of Nintendo Excuses. It can be either from pro-Nintendo folks, anti-Nintendo folks, or from developers themselves. There's comedy to be had everywhere. That's such a dumb, clownish sentiment. I'd consider that a joke if I wasn't so familiar with the disposition of the average gamer.
Do you think that the LAN party crowd will get used to working with small screens? I mean, we don't see DS or PSP LAN parties all over the place, even though they don't need a TV for each system.

That's one thing I immediately said upon seeing the pad: the chances of a pad condom seem so, so small..Sounds about right.

I dunno.. wouldn't it look a bit ridiculous?Small? I was saying I can see it being likely due to something like that.

The thing is, I don't do the ignore thing because something might happen in the future that makes these folks unhappy, and I want to see it in all of its glory. Schadenfreude, I think..Yep, I definitely made the right choice adding him to my ignore list.
So what else do we know for Nintendo's lineup this year?
May - Mario Tennis Open
August - New Super Mario Bros. 2
November 18* - Wii U Launch in North America
November 18? - Pikmin 3
November 18? - New Super Mario Bros. Mii
November 18? - Assassin's Creed III
*This date is so obvious, there's nothing else they've done (Wii, DS and GCN all had launches around this date).

You're absolutely right.. I hadn't even considered that type of condom.Having an iPhone type edge-lining bumper would be okay, I think.

I am still holding-out hope for a surprise launch in October or even September. Especially if it contributes to making third parties happy with the timing of their big name releases..
It'll happen. Never underestimate peoples' ability to find new ways to screw things up!If I see a video of someone throwing the pad at a TV screen, I'm officially off this planet.
(and BTW..you commented on this being the best grouping of Ninthings since the Nsider forums, and I can't help but agree. No matter what time of day, there are always cool folks hanging about.)

I can hear the MadCatz folks rejoicing from here..

Exactly. And the mods around here do an excellent job on the issue of harrassment. So I don't use the ignore function for anyone. And if I ever do, then that person has done an excellent job of walking a fine, fine line.Yeah, ignores are for people who directly attack you, not for people who are just somewhat annoying.
I want to start a thread on E3 Speculation for Nintendo overall (not just Wii U).
How many posts do I have until I reach member status? If I type out a thread, would someone be able to post it for me?
Sounds silly, but I kinda enjoy the hyperbole on all sides. Adds to the atmosphere, and every once in a while, something crazy ends-up coming true and some crazy person looks like a prophet.Hey man, pleasure is the priority.Apologies to anyone that offends
And yup. It's also the level of civility and level of discussion. It's not constant hyperbole. (although that's not to say there isn't any :lol)
3 months + 300 posts.
And don't even if you could. It's not a good idea.

Probably 60-80% of the responses are going to be doomy stuff. Not that that's inherently bad, but most of it is unimaginative.3 months + 300 posts.

Nintendo makes dangerous motion gaming systems?Haha. It would, but motion gaming has made gaming kind of dangerous now.![]()
Just play with your eyes glued to the padlet screen, tadam, it's like you're on a 50" LCD !
And...
Well...
IDEA TIME !!!!!!!!!!
We know Nintendo did some research & patents about head-mounted displays.
Imagine a support to adapt to your shoulders or your head, which holds the DRC directly in front of your eyes.
In a FPS, you control your movements like strafing & the firing with the Wii-mote + nunchuk, while the action take place on the DRC, the first-person view follows your head's position variations, like a small & cheap virtual reality system.
Nintendo makes dangerous motion gaming systems?
I wonder if someone could twist that into a totally awesome ad campaign?
I wonder if Nintendo would ever consider releasing a slim-formed headband that tracks head movements?Just play with your eyes glued to the padlet screen, tadam, it's like you're on a 50" LCD !

The first one has to be some sort of Jackass bullshit.
I hate to admit it, but yes. To be clear, I wouldn't ever call it "crap," as I've had some absolutely fantastic times with the Wii, but I do admit that I'm looking forward to mixing things up a bit between motion and classic control styles. Is anyone else looking forward to playing nintendo games with a controller again instead of that motion crap? Apart from better online thats the thing that makes me want one the most.
