Wii U Speculation thread IV: Photoshop rumors and image memes

You're right, but that's the main concern. If neither Sonic will be out for the console, I don't see which franchises could support the Wii U.

The day Nintendo need Sonic is the day when Nintendo should go 3rd party. I know Sega make crazy decisions, but I don't see them not bringing it to Wii U (unless they know that MK8 is a launch window title).

I do feel like Nintendo should have done things a bit differently with the Wii U re-unveiling. At this rate, there are going to be games, both first party and third party, which are going to get lost in the shuffle at E3. It is just math.

I think some sort of modest ramp up in Wii U news leading up to E3 would have highlighted some software which otherwise is going to get ignored and also built some positive momentum. Hell look at the excitement Rayman Legends received.

I'm afraid a lot of games will be overlooked by the game tide is coming
and Rayman Legends will be one of them, just like Origins when it first came out. Sadly.
Hopefuly, they will delay it till christmas.

@ GameplayWhore, it is a confirmed game. Maybe he just forgot

So what nintendo is telling me is that say Assassin's Creed will be available digitally at launch and competitors are free to price it how they see fit?

Edit: Wouldn't that cut into the used game market though
?

Yeah, I know, but it's absolutely annoying all this silence. And it is also ruining the Wii U perception before its launch.
After an entire year of absolute silence, at least they must prepare the biggest B-roll trailer of all time for the E3 to present all the missing titles up to now.

It is irritating, but only for us who have followed the Wii U since it's announcement. I dont think it is killing perception outside of forum goers (who should know better), and the mainstream consumer doesnt really need to know about it until a couple of months before release (E3).

Now that I think about it, yes it is. And I'm sure we don't even know 20% of Wii U's third party games. Shit just got real :O
But from that list you posted... I'm interested in all the games but Lego City Stories. I don't know why, but I never liked Lego games so I really don't care about City Stories.

That is fair enough - I have a special relationship with them. I think theyre okay, but my sister loves them, and its great to play something together. It is basically Lego games, Mario Kart and Mario Party :)

Oh goodie. The two Batman games are on an actually surprisingly small shortlist of titles that I feel I really missed out on by not getting a Playstation 3 or Xbox 360 this gen. It'd be nice to get my grubby fingers on one of them (before, at least, the PS3 finally gets down to $150 and I can pick it up with LBP and a couple other possibly compelling used titles).

I think Nintendo needs to have a moment where they announce so much at once that it actually does cause a little bit of vibration in the industry. My local gaming group (two people other than me, mind) seem pretty adamant that they won't be getting the next Nintendo console, but the entirety of the reason is that it didn't get most of the big, well-marketed releases (it has nothing to do with the "Classic Excuses" you see on message boards). If Nintendo could shine for that one week brightly enough to get the word of improved breadth of release so far out as to reach people who don't pay attention quite so closely, then it would help dramatically, I think.

Lego Star Wars was pretty great because of the novelty (the sense of humour was nice, as were the controls). But it's a shockingly monotonic game series. It makes CoD look like Metroid in terms of variety. I loved it then moved on. It was a satisfying and torrid, but brief, affair.

I'm in the same boat. I loved the first Lego SW game, and was so excited for the second one as well as Batman and Indiana Jones, but by the time I played them it just sort of got old.

I'm still interested in Lego City Stories, though - hopefully it can bring something fresh to the table.

Oh yeah, definitely. E3 is definitely the time to do it, and do it they must. But Im not so sure it would have done them good to drip feed information between last E3 and this one. They need to make that impact, as you say, at E3, months before release, so that there is an explosion of interest amongst those that dont frequent message boards and gobble up each morsel of news.

I completely agree. Playing it single player puts me to sleep, to be honest, but I rarely get to play anything with my sister and when we do Lego co-op, the game changes. But then that really isnt anything to do with the game.

I rented Clone Wars III or whatever it was on the 3DS, and only barely managed to complete it. However, Lego City Stories looks to be in a slightly different mould, so it will be interesting to see what they do with a sandbox game.

This is my first time posting here cause I'm trying to avoid the craziness
(but I still lurk :-P)
, but this morning, it hit me - the idea of Nintendo planning to license the controller out to third parties to create their own controllers (I know the initial plan was to not sell additional controllers - but Nintendo can't be that stupid so I'm optimistic.) I'm intrigued to see designs when/if this happens...

It is kinda far fetched thinking third parties will be creating their own tablet controllers though.

I think this would be an awesome situation. If there are so many Wii-U games at E3 that it's just overwhelming, then Nintendo wins. And if Nintendo can have a huge stream of AAA titles in their conference trailer, that will make people shut up and pay attention.

My point is I think they could still have that overwhelming presence PLUS building some momentum and highlighting titles that will get lost. Oh well.

Just to add to what you are saying, Im sure that not all of these games will release immediately on release day. When the 3DS lineup was first revealed, they showed off a lot of stuff we have seen very little of since, and some stuff that came out quite some time after the launch period. I suspect that we will see a similar scenario where the releases trickle out of the gate, even if they release in Autumn on PS3 and 360.

Yeah, if there are some small, interesting games for WiiU that Nintendo is making, they should really show them now. Mario, Pikmin, the console features, third-party games and the other big stuff will dominate the headlines and anything announced now would get huge publicity since people are dying for news.

That small black rectangle in that picture is too small to house the IR camera lens used in the Wii Remote.
That's not true. It's only a millimeter or two in diameter.

pic

Still needs a large enough window in order to get a view of the sensor bar from off angle.
The PixArt IR sensor is like a pinhole camera. The window on the top of the Wii U controller should be plenty big to see what it needs to, especially if it's right up next to it. The window on the Wiimote was massive in relation to it's camera, which was more likely a stylistic choice than a practical one. In the earlier version it was smaller: Revolution controller - Wii remote

So, out of the games that we definitely know are coming around launch, what are people interested in? Ive got my eye on:

Aliens: Colonial Marines
Assassin's Creed III
Darksiders II
Killer Freaks From Outer Space (pending more impressions)
Pikmin 3
Rayman Legends
Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing Transformed
Lego City Stories

Its a pretty healthy list. Not sure what will be day one, though. Plus there is always the chance of more at E3. ;)

Aliens, Darksiders 2 and Killer Freaks (again, pending more impressions).

My God, E3 can't get here quick enough.

But that would cut down severely on the "overwhelming" factor at the show, as well as give the system huge publicity WAY too early. Huge publicity now is the wrong time, because it will get people interested in the system now, and they won't be interested by the time E3 hits. Especially if all they show are smaller titles, that's the type of thing that will make people go "wow, the system is only capable of that? And there are no AAA titles coming out, just these small games?". And then they stop paying attention to the system, because they have it set in their mind that that's what the system is about.

My point is I think they could still have that overwhelming presence PLUS building some momentum and highlighting titles that will get lost. Oh well.

Actually, feel the opposite.
They should probably highlight the ports and stuff now.
And at e3 focus on some titles that may get lost in the shuffle. If it has a presence at Nintendo's own show, it could help raise the stock of the title. More than throwing it out there leading up to the event

The problem is that WiiU probably still has features that haven't been revealed yet. It's kinda hard to properly show games for a system that itself hasn't been wholly introduced.

Which is why Nintendo needs to take all the time they need to re-reveal the console.

Take 3/4 of the conference, please.

Yea theres no way they can show games and the controller and system itself still hasnt been fully revealed.Showing now might take away from the show overall. I understand the need for some publicity but If the Wii U has something we dont know about it wouldnt be fair for some third party to unveil it. Pretty sure Nintendo wants to show off their shit themselves.

I would buy:

- Ghost Recon Online
- Dirt or Project Cars
- AC3 (if it turns out good)

My backlog for all other genres is already too much on PC/Wii (and PS2)

Which is why Nintendo needs to take all the time they need to re-reveal the console.

Take 3/4 of the conference, please.
Nintendo's E3 2011 media briefing consisted of 55.8003% Wii U presentation (excluding Mr. Iwata's early remark on the system). Considering how much emphasis they have put on Nintendo 3DS so far this year, 75% of the briefing dedicated to Wii U isn't too far-fetched. I could see New Super Mario Bros. 2 and a potential The Legend of Zelda for 3DS getting some attention, but I think the focus will be on Wii U, as it should be.

Definitely. Cram a quarter of the conference full of 3DS stuff and make sure it has a strong floor presence.

Then shock and awe the holy hell out of the Wii U with at least 50 or 60 title announcements. Make sure it's in every third party booth showing the best versions of every game whenever possible.

Basically at this point I figure it's Nintendo's E3 to lose.

Nintendo can screw up just as big as they can nail it. No idea what's going to happen.

Sounds like an excellent way to have your game leak early.
As opposed to the DS/Wii method of leaking about as soon as physical copies exist.

It's fair enough to complain about the GC D-Pad (I think that was just a GBA one, right?)
Almost. Same size, but it was lacking a layer or made of a different material so it felt rougher.

Sony has it set up so you can only write to the internal drive, and the sole and only use a USB drive has on the PS3 is for backing up the internal drive using the pre-included software to back up and restore data.
Well, music and video from an external hard drive can be accessed, too.

You don't know how many times I wanted to play a game but said "fuck it" because having to mess around with 2-3 remotes to change inputs and get into the game was too cumbersome.

I want to be able to play games during commercial breaks.
Given Wii U controller has no dedicated TV buttons, though, at the very least you'd be going through a series of touch screen menus to bring up such functionality. Not so much more convenient.

As for officially announces (or close enough) games I'm interested in, AC3, Aliens CM, Rayman Legends and Darksiders II make the cut thus far.

Not counting whatever Nintendo releases until I know what they plan for this holiday. Just because they've confirmed Pikmin3 doesn't mean it's a launch window title.

All it needs is a single "TV" button. Then you can have customized touch screen controls. The controller power button, mic, and power led aren't balanced/symmetrical now anyway.

With user accounts each person could have their own favorite channels, audio settings, etc.

If I understand you correctly, that sounds like how I see it. Gamestop could sell it for $59.99 while Wal-Mart could sell it for $39.99.

Did it stick out more too(or is that just a faulty memory), either way it looks like the Wii U pad will be using the CC D-Pad.

So, out of the games that we definitely know are coming around launch, what are people interested in? Ive got my eye on:

Batman:AC (been looking forward to playing that since I finished AA, but RROD put paid to that), ACIII(as long as they put a decent synopsis of the storyline so far in the game, haven't played one past ACII) + one more (depending on launch dates & quality either Project Cars, LCS, KF or whatever Nintendo have developed).

They're still limited by the amount of money that goes back to the vendor, no?

Either way, that's perhaps an interesting strategy to marginalize the used game market without actually directly locking it out.

Nintendo needs to bring back the sizzle reel with generic rock tunes. I miss those. :(

Also, this needs to be a grand spectacle.

I've got an avatar bet for you burnt pork.its simple, I wager that GoW: A single player will look better than any Wii U first party title. The avatar must be kept for 3 months. are you game?

SASRT Wii U version just about certain, interview more or less confirms the obvious re: NDA:

GC: In terms of the formats the game's on, has Nintendo told everyone not to announce Wii U games? Because it seems impossible to imagine this, and various other recently announced games, aren't going to be on it.

JN: I couldn't possibly tell you. [laughs]

GC: You couldn't tell me because you know or because you don't know?

JN: [laughs] I… couldn't possibly tell you. But I agree with you, wouldn't it be a great idea to get this onto a platform like the Wii U!

Both: [laughs]

I'm curious to see whether Nintendo has made an exception for the Black Ops 2 announcement tomorrow, though I doubt they have.

I brought you guys something I cooked up from TokuGAF's Kamen Rider Fourze. This is still prototype since we don't know how E3 will do... but still!

ohsugie3vdj10.gif

Can't wait to edit it and show it in E3!

Also, again, I'm asking for the thread involving Nintendo Fortress last E3!

interesting bet

I also had worries that Nintendo does not have the experience in pushing HD to make games look great. But what does that matter when they excel in the Art

I want to see which side wins this
