Zelda 3DS likely won't be a remake.
Expect something that looks like OoT 3D (but better) but plays completely differently.
I disagree. Not with the circle pad and the 3D Screen. It will have controls almost identical to OoT 3D, I can guarantee it.

8th home console (or 12th if you count all 5 systems in the Color TV Game generation)
1980 Nintendo Computer TV Game
2012 Wii U
Computer TV Game is a remake of Nintendo's arcade game titled Computer Othello.
Wii U confirmed to be at least as powerful as a 1980 game console!
Even if Sony doesn't notice this rule, something tells me that in order to increase their chances of good financial health, they'll take a more Nintendo-like path this time around. And it'll divide their core base of fans like nothing else.
Well, whomever wrote that Wikipedia article decided that the second generation was all about programmable carts. The Nintendo Computer TV Game doesn't use programmable carts, but it also wasn't just a continuation of the Color TV game series of game consoles that Nintendo made, because it was quite a bit more powerful than them. Rather than using Pong hardware, the Computer TV Game was basically a full arcade board in a plastic box (that Miyamoto designed!) that could play Othello. Because of this it could do multi-voice electronic sounds and actually had quite a good single-player AI. Also because of that, it required a huge (for its day) power supply, as you can see in this picture:Well, that's interesting. The Wikipedia article on the second generation does not cover the "Computer TV Game", but it obviously seems to have existed from other accounts.
Quick! Somebody who isn't me fix this travesty of history!
$299 sounds fair.
i don't really see the wii u as competition to the ps360 though.
i mean they will provide different game experinces, ways to play and online setups.
the wii u is a mass market product like all nintendo systems have been
the trade off between the wii u and the ps360 systems is not going to be significant because the wii u has the tablet controller which will ensure that there is a major unique selling point and point of difference in the market place.
Wait a sec.
Waaaaait a sec…
Waaaaaaaaaaait……

The thing about the WiiU I hope they do correctly is Advertise it right, especially if they decide to keep the name. A good 50% of customers I get into my Gaming Department at Best Buy are casual consumers (casual in the sense of, they only play a system a couple of times, get a few games.). Surprisingly, the majority of them do know about the WiiU, but I've had to clear up misconceptions. A lot still believe its either
A - A Handheld device
B - An added Controller to the Wii to Make it HD
C - Just an accessory to the Wii, not even HD capabilities
And given how they advertised it at E3 last year, thats exactly the message a lot of people got.
On my end, I would really hope that they would change the form factor of the Console though. As to no be too Similar to the Wii. I would actually like them to do different light indicators for the Tray light. Similar to the notification light on the 3DS. Tray glows orange when a Friend comes online, Blue when theres an update, Green when a friend sends a message. Since I doubt they'll go out there with colors, I would prefer black over white for the System/Controller. Mainly for the controller, because the sensor bar portion looks too out there.
When it comes to price, I like speculating with customers and have actually gotten some decent feedback from the casual consumers. Now I speculate with them a $299-399 price tag with $349 as the sweet spot. They see nothing wrong with that price and say its actually a good deal. Consider it this way, they know its a game system, but are big on the tablet market as well. On average, tablets cost in the $299-$399 range. You price a Game system with a tablet style controller that could potentially have its own apps, stream videos, browse the web, play Wii games and the new WiiU games and have access to a virtual console library? Consumers do see it as a good price.
Will it be impacted by PS3 and 360 if they go down in price? Not as much as most of us think. These casual consumers see "new" as better and also longevity. Most are aware PS3 and 360 have been out for 6-7 years and are probably on their way out as well. Although some will buy because of price, most wont buy because its been out a while.
When it comes to digital download prices set by retailers, I see this as helping us out. Since a lot of people are saying retail gaming is on its way out, at least this keeps us afloat and drives competition.
Just my 2 cents from the Retail front.
So, out of the games that we definitely know are coming around launch, what are people interested in? Ive got my eye on:
Aliens: Colonial Marines
Assassin's Creed III
Darksiders II
Killer Freaks From Outer Space (pending more impressions)
Pikmin 3
Rayman Legends
Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing Transformed
Lego City Stories
Its a pretty healthy list. Not sure what will be day one, though. Plus there is always the chance of more at E3.![]()
it sucks when you get stuck as the last poster on a page (yes jerks I use 50 per page >_>). I'm not fond of writing long winded responses so I'll just say that I like your ideas and if the Wii U isn't $299-350 range I'll be severely disappointed.
Just out of sheer curiosity, I look forward to seeing which direction they choose. Sony's choice on which path to take will have its own fascinating ripple effects throughout the industry. You would have thought they'd learn that after the PS3 but then they still went all-out with the Vita. Sony's decisions puzzle me sometimes.
Add NSMB 2 to that list, unless you guys think it may be the free bundled game ?.
If they can get Madden / Fifa / WWE '13, BLOPS 2 and Resident Evil 6, then they will have a hell of a launch imo, esp if the WiiU versions are superior !.
Im expecting two out of Mario Kart, Starfox, F-Zero and Wave Race as other launch window first party exclusives aswell.
I would also love them to get Max Payne 3, Far Cry 3, Borderlands 2, Bioshock: Infinite, Tomb Raider, MoH Warfighter, GTA V and Crysis 3 but you can't have everything i suppose and im sure a lot of us have a PS3 or 360 to play those on so not like we are missing out.

I'm pretty sure it'll be a sequel to Spirit Tracks. Same art style, not the same vein of gameplay.Zelda 3DS will happen at E3. That's a no-brainer for me.
The question is, what exactly will it be?

But I usually like gathering input from the common folk who aren't on gaming forums more times than they actually game. It helps went I get input from my Nintendo rep though, since she does travel to Redmond and gets some decent info. I do like disputing with a lot of analysts theories simply because I talk to consumers on a daily basis, so I know whats in their minds when it comes to game systems.
The WiiU ultimately does suffer from brand confusion much like the 3DS, and the only way to combat it is proper advertising, which they lacked with 3DS, even to this day there are still those who believe its just a DS with 3D and nothing else.
I'm pretty sure it'll be a sequel to Spirit Tracks. Same art style, not the same vein of gameplay.
It should just be called the wii tu! english speakers think it means tu and the actual concept of wii u is still retained. everyone wins! spanish is fun! lack of brand confusion is fun!
NSMB2 is a 3DS game. We have no idea what Mario game will hit for the Wii U.
Mario Kart Wii U will be a holiday 2013 title.
Other than Smash, that's the only way you could get me to buy a Wii U day one. That or a $200 price tag.Imagine if there was a Monster Hunter launch title for the Wii U. It would be interesting to see how many units it would sell in Japan.
really?
I wouldn't count the chickens before they roost and lose their Flying secondary type.
It's unproven whether the tablet is really going to work that ninty magic.

the wii u controller makes it very easy to pick up and play, continue playing games while watching tv.
thats why it will sell like hotcakes !!!
really? Does Miyamoto need to confirm NSMBMii for the third time before we acknowledge it? Or did you mean "when"?

Perhaps not, but I enjoy watching sports throughout the yr & the idea of playing Batman AC while sitting on the couch & watching the Superbowl sounds pretty fucking awesome.I don't share your confidence. Being interrupted whilst gaming isn't a problem everyone has, especially households with more than one TV.

um, to my knowledge he never specified what the next mario game on wii u would be. please provide a source since you seem so informed.
I'm hoping for a hand-held title more along the lines of LTTP and LA. Withe the glorious skyward word art-style.
Simply playing a game while a show's on is a nice selling point for me. Having a baseball game on or something I'm only mildly interested in while gaming? Yes, please.
Depends if they actually decide to make 2 different SKU's like PS3 and 360. Make one with like 2-8GB Flash Memory a Entry Level Sku at around $299 with a WiiSports equivalent packaged in, then implement a Solid State HDD SKU for $399 with the WiiSports equivalent and another game with a more "core" appeal wouldn't be considered Suicide. There's no way it will be less than $299 because Iwata said it won't launch at a price similar to the Wii's launch price. And if it's more than $350, then that's price suicide.
The official stance regarding NSMBMii was that Nintendo would show a Mario Wii U game based on that demonstration. Doesn't mean it'll be the said title nor does it deny it'll be the title. We have a month to go. Let's just wait & see.

Wow, I never thought about it that way. I could watch football AND continue playing my game. Amazing really.

If it's actually true. In other words, how much range can we even expect? If Nintendo were smart, they'd hammer the hell out of this fact in their ad campaign.

I know as a 3DS gamer who will be playing NSMB in August, having a NSMB Wii 2 launch with the unit is not exciting. At all. At worst, I'd play them and suspect that they're both half-assed and should have been one full experience. At best, NSMB Wii will knock it out of the park but 3 side scrolling Mario games in 3 months is lunacy.

It's cool, but it's not "sell like hotcakes" cool or "this isn't competing against the ps3/360" novel.

I thought it was a "same room" thing according to Reggie.
It should just be called the wii tu! english speakers think it means tu and the actual concept of wii u is still retained. everyone wins! spanish is fun! lack of brand confusion is fun!
Precisely. This is going to essentially be two systems in one. Firstly, it'll be a traditional home console. And secondly, it'll function
as an around-the-house handheld gaming device, free of the television.
If Nintendo were smart, they'd hammer the hell out of this fact in their ad campaign.
it's still a different playing experience with a console game in your hands rather than on playing on a tv.
why?
because your more personally involved. like you would reading a book. you tend to focus more than you would if you just played normally on the tv.

I understand how Motion Controls were a big deal. It (theoretically) made gaming a more accessible and sometimes active thing. But the power of being able to play a game in your hands has been done before in, well, handhelds. It's certainly a welcome addition, but I don't think that bullet point is what's going to make the WU sell. It can definitely woo gamers, but that's not how you reach the big numbers anymore these days.
I think the tablet aspect of the Wii U is too gimped to make too much of a fuss over. It'd be better to focus on the the uPad's feature's as a form of input and second screen.
Explain without using the words multitouch
