Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

Yeha. Dragon Quest X was already announced; heck it's even coming to the Wii.
And even the 360 got Final Fantasy XI at launch (or close to it); ; so that will depend on other factors more than the lack of an HDD.

Either the usual "USB HDD required" on the box or and/or bundles with one.

DQX

it doesn't need a built in HD for MMOs. USB drives should be good enough it seems.
Most of Rift's monthly updates are 700MB to 1GB in size. Wouldn't take many of those updates to max out a USB drive (which, BTW, won't be included in the system either).

The problem with the XBox 360 version of FFXI was, it sold horribly after the initial launch (to be fair, it *did* have a decent launch).

Depends on how long from impregnation to childbirth...

Europe is Sega Territory (Dreamcast 2...believe!)

Coming to stores next year on 13-13-13.

Shame on me for forgetting them! Nayru knows I've been seeing their ads around the sides of various soccer stadiums all day.

(funny thing: I watched an old Italian soccer game from 1998 yesterday, and there were Nintendo ads everywhere, including sprawled across the players' jerseys)

Going off topic, while I think MS is in the best position to appease both the non-gamer and gaming enthusiast, I also think they are in the best position to be squeezed out of the console market. And not because they make a switch to selling only living room set-top boxes.

Nintendo is going to do such amazing things with this...

Adding to fernoca's post, while not guaranteed to be a representation of final gameplay, Killer Freaks used the controller screen for aiming. Maybe that will at least be an option.

I imagine you can use a fairly sizeable USB hard drive.

Sooo, not sure if it's been brought up or not, but does anyone know what this is for?

It isn't the charging slot because that is on the bottom.

I would imagine that just about every "core" gamer will have a USB HDD connected to their Wii U. I plan on picking up a 2TB drive around launch and know other people doing the same. There will be enough people to play their games if they want to. The real issue will be keyboards, mice, or any other item needed to play the game. Would they make some adjustments for the Wii Pad? Remote/nunchuck? I guess we'll see, but I fully expect PSO 2 to make it to the Wii U.

Maybe it's how you do a wire connection from console to pad?

or a microphone attachment?

controller extension port?

I don't know why you would need to do a wired connection except to charge it, but I'm not sure why they would put two charging ports on this.

I think it already has a built in mic.

Maybe, but what kind of extension could you have with this thing?

I have an external hard drive awaiting the arrival of his new friend. Not sure if I'd ever have the time to live in an MMO. I'd probably neglect my real-world responsibilities and spend too much time there.

(and has anyone visited the nintendo lost magic thread? what a damn headache!)

Edit: Congressman, I'm not sure. Maybe it's one of those weird connection ports that Nintendo puts there for future accessories.. but I can't think of anything.

The one behind the little flexi-door thing? It's the same as the 3DS' charging port. Unless there's another.

Yes, the one behind the flap. Same as 3ds? That's odd.

Hmm, was it confirmed that it charges in the bottom? or at least recently updated?

I'm pretty sure they mentioned something about being able to set it in a charging dock of sorts. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what I've been thinking this whole time.

Ah, I think I figured it out. There are two gold contacts that could be used for a charging dock.
I guess the other slot is for a charging cable.

Yep, same as the 3DS/DSi, but if there was a charging dock, there's two contacts on the bottom around that weird port, so it'd probably stand upright.

Thought it has never looked big to me, this controller is starting to look small for some reason. I know its larger than most others, but it just looks small for what it does. A good thing to be sure, but it goes against what I would imagine it to be.

It'll probably be so you can charge your controller via tethered USB cable. That port on the bottom is likely for potential peripheral attachment while the gold plates are for charging on a dock like you've said.

Man, is there going to be a separate charging dock I need to plug in to the wall? That's going to be annoying

I know this was posted a while back, but I seriously got bored of trying to catch up, so...

Whose bright idea was it to use an rv7xx generation chip for a 2011 dev kit.

I dunno, whose bright idea was it to use Power Mac G5s for a Microsoft dev kit?

So I gave up around page 100 or so (bitch about me only viewing 50 posts per page, I DARE YOU)... after IdeaMan posted, nothing else of note?

But its only up to page 56 :P

I swear if the NBN rolls out near me by the time Wii U launches that would make my century, so fast. :D Also, 50 bucks says Shield Pose will be a starting point for Rhythm Heaven U.

I was really excited for the Wiimote, I think I'm less excited for the Upad but realise it will offer far more exciting opportunities.

What do you think about 'upad' being the name for the pad, nintendo adopted wiimote from the community which was refreshing. Normally the head of marketing(or who ever names the devices) has too big an ego to allow that to happen, going instead with his failed attempt at being edgy and appealing to focus groups. Can we do any better than 'Upad'.

Anyone think Retro might be reviving that Sheik game they were rumored to be working on before the staff exodus? That was back during Nintendo's "Wii Crush" phase, which should be over now that they're trying to win back over the hardcore crowd. They had maybe ~10 months of work on it between the final days of Corruption and the firings in April '08. There's the Miyamoto interview we all know about where he indicates his comfort with Retro handling the Zelda universe. However, Aonuma seems pretty eager on taking the lead on Zelda Wii U and seemed to indicate that any collaboration would be mostly just to assist with graphics. So I think if Retro was working on a Zelda project, it would more than likely not be the next mainline entry. This way when they're done can pass on the assets to EAD so that the next mainline Zelda won't take 5 years.

Oh, and my source for this is GAF of course

well, mario & luigi will probably stay handheld exclusive, too, so i don't think we'll be seeing another console mario rpg for a long while.

i don't think the majority of so called "core gamers" will have usb hdds hooked into their wii u.

M&L is gone. That's what PM3DS implies. I can't see them doing a sprite based 3DS game, or a non-paper real 3D game. I think the trilogy is done for.

i don't think m&l is gone, the series did extremely well. alpha dream will do some form of mario rpg on the 3ds.

Wait. Wait, muthafuckin' wait.
A spin-off based on Sheik? SHEIK?!
HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG

Just had a thought, wouldn't it be cool if Nintendo released an attachment for the WiiU tab that lets you store VC/WiiU Ware Tab games directly on the device.

Making the tab in to portable gaming system, just imagine loading you favourite VC games and playing it on your commute to work.

I hope instead that they are given the chance to make a M&L (or just call it Mario RPG) for the Wii U instead. The 3DS wont' lack rpgs but the Wii U surely will.

The tablet has no real processing power. You wouldn't be able to play real games. It's a controller, don't you forget it.

I highly doubt it. iirc, they never worked on the shiek game extensively, they just formulated a pitch that got shot down. The most retro will ever likely be involved in zelda is in asset production, possibly some design. I don't think they'll ever get to make their own full fledged zelda game.

Retro is most likely either working on DKCR2 or another franchise other than zelda such as f-zero or starfox. I think it's more likely that they'd be given a new IP before they'd be put in charge of a zelda game.

Don't ever call Nintendo's first shot down a game's only shot down (not saying you did though :P) didn't Pokemon/Capumon/Pocket Monsters get knocked back like 4-5 times before Nintendo finally caved?

No doubt there is a good chance that Retro is/will work on one of those three titles (Starfox,DKCR2,FZero).

But I do think Nintendo has revealed the timeline of Zelda so that they can have another
team work on it. They have separated it into 4 areas: The main, and the three branching story-lines. I think one of the branches will be used for portable games (probably young link), the main and another branch will be developed in Japan. And I can imagine they will give the last story-line, the darker one, to someone like Retro or another Western developer. Nintendo probably wants at least two Zelda games per console cycle.

Lol, ideaman came and finally dropped some bombs.

this thread is blowing up, bit by bit.

Oh, the 720p/1080p thing? No skin off my back to be quite honest. Games can look good without 1080.

lol don't worry. I've just catched on the recent posts and commented on the state of this thread.

Gay rights and atheism vs religion? You do that in school nowadays?
