Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

Yeah. Dyack might have wanted to do ED2, and Nintendo were uninterested in funding it. They may have come to an agreement that SK internally fund the project, and SEGA distribute it. Who knows?

The educated guess says Eternal Darkness 2. What we know is that, according to Dyack, SK are working on "one of its most requested titles for the next generation". We know they ported their technology to the Wii U. We know they're not working on Too Human.

This leaves:
X-Men: Destiny - Would oppose the "returning to our roots" statement. And nobody is going to fund another one.
Bloody Omen - Square-Enix own the Legacy of Kain franchise, and the likely reboot isn't coming from SK.
Metal Gear Solid - Lol no.
Fantasy Empires - Dungeons & Dragons license. No license, no game. No demand, no game.
Cyber Empires - IP owned by Ubisoft.
Dark Legions - IP, I think, owned by Ubisoft.

or, Eternal Darkness.

That's literally SK's entire history, unless you count collaborations like Darksiders and Gex.

the evidence is overwhelming, I wish them the best with it though, hope Dyack does not go into full hype mode. I rather be pleasantly surprised than hyped without delivery

ED2 for Wii U could indicate that there's very little correlation between past sales and what Nintendo is willing to fund on the system, so perhaps Metroid does have hope after all.

Metroid would be awesome!!!! 2d or 2.5D on the TV, and the Visor on the uPad!!!! <3
Now we need a comfortable position to be able to use the remote as the arm cannon!

Does anyone have any good reasons to believe that ED has any power to sell consoles? I hope Nintendo's just giving SK a green light to cash in at launch; their internal resources should go to more marketable
and better
projects.

All signs point to SK working on the Wii U. We know for a fact they ported their technology to the Wii U last year, I think it was. We know they're licensed developers. Given Dyack's hinting and dicking around, and the likelihood Nintendo still owns some part of the Eternal Darkness IP, Eternal Darkness 2 is the mostly educated guess.
it does almost sound like he wants us to know

Denis Dyack from Silicon Knights answered a few questions in a new video interview.

On who owns the Eternal Darkness IP :

"That's a question we've never answered. At the end of the day, it's not even time to talk about those kind of things for various different reasons. Nintendo is still our silent partner, a lot of people don't know that. We have a great relationship with those guys. It's not time to talk about Eternal Darkness 2. I've had so many questions and it's been interpreted a couple times as I said that yes, we are working on ED 2, but we've never said that. So sorry, that's the best I can give ya. It's a complicated question with a complicated answer and we're not answering it. "

On their next game not being Too Human 2 and possibly published by Sega, clarification on OXM comment:

- "I think that was mischaracterized. Essentially, beyond the Too Human trilogy, which we've already announced two and three, the next game we announce will be very different than Too Human in genre, in game style, everything. That's somehow been misinterpreted a million different ways.

Old and no longer up to date.

There's The Horde for Sega Saturn as well, EatChildren, but only a trio of guys from Silicon Knights were involved with that, and the IP (owned by Crystal Dynamics) is not live, so Eternal Darkness is the most likely. Otherwise I have no idea what it could be (if we exclude Too Human and X-Men that is).

About the achievements and personal accounts:

Nintendo should remove the coins/stars system of Club Nintendo US/EU/JP and just give their fidelity presents when you get a special achievement, unlock all of them in a game, etc
When you get, lets say, 5000 points you get a reward card points to spend in the Wii U eshop, cards, toys, discount codes, etc
Maybe this could bring all those achiement hunters to the Nintendo system and that would be a big reason to buy a 3rd party game for the Wii U.

Again, sorry for my english.

The problem with those systems is that they

1.) Can be exploited - seriously, everything can be exploited
2.) Most people don't even play through their games - the more "casual" audience would be alienated from those goodies
3.) Every Nintendo branch needs to offer different products and a different amount
...

And so on. I probably didn't even wrote the worst consequences of such a system, but I'm pretty sure that it wouldn't work. And hey, compared to other companys, I'm fine with Club Nintendo (but then again I'm not from Australia).

I know I'll get flak for this, but, I am NOT interested in anything from SK. I never liked ED on GameCube and probably won't like ED2 on Wii U. Sorry, that's just me.

I think those quotes confirm Too Human sequels more than they do ED2 to be honest. But again, its all PR basically. ED2 shouldn't be announced yet, and hes been making comments that raise suspicion about it, so it is natural that he would backtrack if it was infact in development.

No they said they were working on something a lot of people have been requesting. Only the U.S. Air Force's SERE program would want another Too Human.

we seriously need some decent news on the WiiU front... I'm going back to my KI:U beat the game now time to explore the endless goodies :3

if you can't say anything nice... wait, this is the internets carry on

Hahaha, that interview is old. Didn't realise that.

So, if Dyack isn't talking out of his arse (as he might just be), that leaves two IPs: Too Human or Eternal Darkness.

Whatever it is is likely for the Wii U, given we know they ported their tech to the system.

Curve ball will be Too Human 2 for the Wii U.

if by curveball you mean the stupidest possible thing, then I agree :P

Something I don't see a lot of people picking up on at times, whatever's cooking for Wii U right now looks like 6th/7th gen 360/PS3 games easily. I can only imagine what the games on the console will be like when tech/processes for it hit their own stride.
Heh. I don't remember if this was about GCN or Wii, but I remember some forumer a loooong time ago talking about how bad it was to make a console that was supposed to be easy to develop for. Saying things like "You know how later games for a system look better than the early ones? You won't get that." I bet ease of porting existing late-life PS360 games that won't take advantage of new features will give a similar impression to some.

He has brought up TH2 at least a couple times in the last ~6 months, hasn't he?

It was a flawed game for sure, but it had potential too IMO.

Just don't let SK handle the cut-scenes =p

What's your guys plan for Wii-U preorders? I want to make sure I get mine on day 1.

Just walk in, day of launch, pick one up. Don't worry GAF. 6 million will be more than enough.

Actually, do what I did for the wii. Camp out not launch day but camp out Black Friday. Most people don't camp out Black Friday at Gamestop/EB. I got to EB 2am and nobody showed up until 5. Could have easily slept in til 4 and gotten up then. Play ur DS while ur at it.

Yeah, rewards for things you do in games need to be
A. ...never convertible to anything in real life, ever
B. ...not based on a blind "point" system, but always specifically and meaningfully linked to the actual thing you did in the game. Ergo no instance of terrible games getting bought by massive amounts of people because you can repeatedly hit the "A" button to pimp your digital schlong.
C. ...somehow magically cross-linked to the next Smash Bros, so I can unlock a SSBU character download of, say, Chris Hero (or whatever stupid name they're calling him these days) by beating WWE '13. :D

that last part was less serious

What's your guys plan for Wii-U preorders? I want to make sure I get mine on day 1.

I'll pre-order on Amazon the first day possible, then at midnight I'll go Wii U hunting like I don't have one coming. That way if I can't get one out at the store I'll have one on the way, if I can pick one up by just walking into the store then I'll just sell the preordered one when it arrives.

What's your guys plan for Wii-U preorders? I want to make sure I get mine on day 1.

Amazon had a get it on launch day thing for KI:U and it worked very well if they can do that for the hardware I'll stick with them but I do rather pull all my money down someplace and know that its paid for so some bills do not eat up my WiiU monies :)

What's your guys plan for Wii-U preorders? I want to make sure I get mine on day 1.

once gamestop starts taking preorders and we know the true price, I'm going to start dumping money into the Wii U every month so i can just buy games at launch instead of paying for a console + games. Gotta lower that hit to the wallet.

camping outside of a store for 12 hours.

If it releases earlier then November i will do the same thing! Sometimes you just have to experience a camp out for a new console instead of pre-ordering! If it does release November, i will just pre-order one at Amazon or Target.

Another way I could go is pre-ordering from GS if there is only one SKU, I couldn't pre-order a 360 for example because my GS didn't get the premium SKU, if the Wii U only as one SKU then I could just pre-order from them, then on day 1 just walk in and pick up my pre-order.

No they said they were working on something a lot of people have been requesting. Only the U.S. Air Force's SERE program would want another Too Human.

Yes but in those quotes he specifically says

"I think that was mischaracterized. Essentially, beyond the Too Human trilogy, which we've already announced two and three, the next game we announce will be very different than Too Human in genre, in game style, everything. That's somehow been misinterpreted a million different ways. " which confirms Too Human 2 and 3

where as the first quote

"I've had so many questions and it's been interpreted a couple times as I said that yes, we are working on ED 2, but we've never said that."

Specifically denies ED 2, so as I said, those quotes are more likely to confirm too human sequels than ED2. But as already stated, these quotes are old anyways and shouldn't really concern anyone.

I never have pre-ordered before, I also have never camped out, usually I just show up at a store on launch day and wait in line for like one hour and that's it. That's my only concern, just because I have gotten my consoles at launch so easy before I don't want to get cocky.

Things have changed since then. SK lost its publishing contract with MGS for Too Human 2 and 3 and their other title, The Ritualist for Sega, got also canned as they missed too many deadlines. The game would've been more like Silent Hill, I assume.

In 2008, it was rather unrealistic to think that SK would return to Wii and it was also unrealistic to think that Nintendo would publish their titles. After all, Nintendo was the casual house during those years and canned all titles that just gave the smallest sign of appealing to the Western hardcore gamer.

Will buy as soon as one of the following things happen: (≤$350 && Crazy Electrostatic Feedback Feature ) || ( ≤$300 && Timesplitters 4 release ) || ≤$250

I don't see the point of Day One otherwise.
