Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

Why do some of you come into this thread expecting news all the time? It is a speculation thread, after all.

Anyway, I really like these blue wavy lines in Wii U E3 game reel (lol).

I was thinking that they would look nice as a background for the Wii U's OS but then it would look to similar to the PS3's. Maybe they could put them on the Wii U's box.

All I know is that Nintendo doesn't get an automatic buy from me at this point (Had an SNES and the N64, Gamecube, and Wii were all year one buys). I need a huge showing from the Wii U before I bite. I bought a Wii at launch, and it started off so strong but by 2009 I had moved on to my X-Box. Yeah they popped out some nice titles post 08 (Donkey Kong Country Returns, Mario Galaxy 2, and Zelda come to mind) but that console lost so much steam to me.

If you give me a huge launch with 4-5 solid Nintendo franchises, a solid third party launch and support, and a good price point (350 seems like a good price) I will buy year one. If not I will wait and see.

That would look awesome.

I dunno about an automatic buy, I just don't have the money these days, but if Nintendo show a good 1 - 3 launch titles that I really, genuinely want, along with a few games down the pipeline, I'll happily pick up a Wii U as soon as possible. I don't know what to expect this year's E3, I don't know why but I just am not really expecting too much from Nintendo, not to be negative but I don't know, I feel like it's almost too soon for them to all of a sudden announce a bunch of heavy hitters. After Skyward Sword, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Mario Kart 3DS, Super Mario 3D Land, etc I feel like we won't really get much.

Hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised, but as of now I'm expecting one or two interesting games alongside a bunch of safe, profitable "Wii" games. Maybe not though, we'll see. The launch of consoles for just about every company has never been particularly strong, time will tell.

EDIT: I am, however, expecting to see Pikmin 3 at E3. They've been teasing this game for YEARS, if they don't show it now, when will they? Pikmin isn't a huge Nintendo franchise that will get everyone excited, but it'll be a good game to get some hardcores pumped for.

Worddd...for me to buy this at launch, there is going to have to be a REALLY good launch AND launch window. Even if there is one title like a mario coming out, but nothing else good for a while, I still wouldn't get it. I require multiple things.

Do we know for sure that the bird demo really is rendering the scene twice? Whenever the bird flies somewhere else, the subscreen view simply fades into the next area. It's possible the subscreen view is just a looping panoramic video, or even a panoramic image with sprites (ie the petals) and water effects overlayed. Or certain regions of the image are smaller looping animations. Stuff like that.

That's definitely a fair point and question. I think it's still about the fact that you have two separate views going on during the demo and Wii U's ability to push that. I found info from a person that did tests on GPU and VRAM usage in both a normal setup and an Eyefinity setup. The drop is noticeable. The ones in bold has both setups.

The con is that the Upad will take a certain level of resources depending on how it's used, while the pro is that it's not up to this level. At the same time I see the majority of developers going with 720p with Wii U which I think should help if we have multiple Upads.

Where'd they say that? I thought Reggie said all the demos were just that - tech demos not indicative of actual games.

It was on the Nintendo Press Site immediately after E3. Super Mario Bros Mii was the only title shown listed as actual software.

I might have taken a screen shot somewhere, but I don't feel like looking for it right now.

what I would like to know when we are looking at the Bird demo, we don't have a final WiiU GPU/CPU running it so why is that demo considered WiiU's power? And not just something Nintendo is targeting?

It was described as 'a taste of what early hardware can do'.

That to me, suggests it was done on 'real' versions of the dev kits, rather than being a target.
Especially when you consider the difference in quality between the conference feed on the on floor demo.

I've nitpicked a few things about the demos so I definitely don't expect them to be a representation of the final capabilities.

So over 20 pages of nothing... considering the gross lack of "speculating" in a speculation thread, you guys might wanna be concerned about this thread getting renamed and moved to the Community board instead.

Aye, both 'graphical demos' certainly aren't perfect (the birds fly through the branches a couple of times and it bugs the hell out of me, for example). If real, retail software can match it in game play, though, I'd be impressed.

Yerp, spamming the thread telling people they're spamming is much more helpful.

there's plenty of speculation going on, it's just routinely intersected by incessant hype trains and their affiliated images

So when Mark Rein says his engine can do better than that Zelda Demo what is he really saying there? The hardware was not even done at the time so pretty much is only a reflection on whatever that Zelda demo is running on and has nothing to do with what the WiiU can do on its own.

Cannot wait to see some real games on this thing

In comparing it to UE3, I would say the lack of dev time on the demo is a better example of what's wrong with the comparison than the hardware.

Why nintendo not choose raden HD 7750 as graphics card in Wii U?

Because they are most likely not implementing GCN.

If UE4 for some reason is absent at E3 but Epic shows Samaritan running on Wii U, will you guys be happy?

What if UE4 is present but not on Wii U (and samaritan is)?

If Wii U could run a Samaritan-level game at 720p/30, I'd be both shocked and content.

You mean graphics core next?

Why they didn't have interested to use it , because it's expensive ?!

From what i see in this generation 360 xenon vs ps3 cell ?

There is no big leap 360 (gears 3) , ps3 (uncharted 3)

And the problem with the price in start-up 360 (400$) , ps3 (600$).

Nintendo should foucs with the spec. to make nice consoles with good price.

I think the price for next generation (wii u (350$)with upad, ps4(450$) with move 2, 720(450$) with kinect 2.

we will see in the e3.

-_- well if some one got a pic out maybe next one may have a game on it

A level editor for Mario Wii U would make a whole lot of sense, because there's a god damn tablet you can use. I don't really see how the screen can be used well for platforming, but level editing? Level editing would work fine.

...fuck it, put level editors in EVERY GAME
Mario Kart? Gets a level editor
Kirby? Gets a level editor
Call of Duty? Gets a level editor
Picross? Gets a level editor
Pilotwings? Gets a level editor
Trackmania already has one but gets a better one
Zelda could get a level editor for making small-type dungeons
Wario Ware? Gets an AMAZING level editor

And the gods of user-created content smiled down upon us

I don't think that we will see a level editor for Mario in the future.

Kirby Canvas Course is a light level editor. /problem?

I 100 percent agree with you. The Wii U controller makes it possible for all games to have amazing level editors.

Samus in her Zero Suit, convulsing on the floor, with an assortment of pills strewn around her for about four to five minutes.

Then credits.

10/10 A+ would experience again

i forgot to mention it also has to be 2d.

not 2.5d though.

just take metroid 1 and blow it up and i guess i'll play that.

Yeah, we need another 2D Metroid. That much I'll agree on. It's weird, it seems to be the one Nintendo franchise where they're not interested in taking Super Metroid and, well, making another one. That and Lylatwars seem to be stuck in a hell of non-iteration.

Maybe it's for the best.
