Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

A dark and gritty Metroid without transforming into shit - this is what I want.

My thoughts also Nibel be fucking sic I tell ya :)

My all time fav Metriod game is Super Metriod just perfect.

If it's one game that need's a remake on Wii U or Next Nintendo console it's Super Metriod.

welp, this thread has finally slowed down. the new thread's fumes have finally dissipated and we're not high on it anymore :/

still impressive we managed to do 42 pages in like 2 days.

when the same things keep getting said over and over again, it's pretty easy : (

i'm probably high because of the kickstarter thing, but i think that Tim Schafer could really deliver something interesting and unique gameplay-wise for the wii u and the u pad...

We need more hype energy!!

no, we don't!

what I would like to know when we are looking at the Bird demo, we don't have a final WiiU GPU/CPU running it so why is that demo considered WiiU's power? And not just something Nintendo is targeting?

But the demo was on the showfloor, running on actual WiiU's was it not, even with more effects (selfshadowing on trees) than the demo at the conference?

Well, it was running on dev kits, at least.
And yes, it did have more effects than the conference video.

I never really got that. They had more time to work on the demo on the dev kits on the showfloor so it had more effects and therefore looked better. Then why didn't they show that demo in the conference if they already had it running on the showfloor dev kits? Is there a really large time gap between conference to showfloor?

and what's the best youtube video for the bird demo?

I think it just goes to show how rushed the whole presentation was.

oh and this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OHUwDShrD4 is pretty good

The video they showed at the conference was pre-recorded ahead of time. Likely weeks ahead of time. They wanted to make sure that it would work perfectly (don't want any surprise crashes onstage).

I doubt anyone in the videos are people with detailed knowledge of the tech behind the demo. They could be using "rendering" loosely or are simply making assumptions regardless of what is technically being done. Doesn't really mean anything.

And unless I missed footage showing a 3D view on the subscreen different than the one on the TV for the Zelda demo, it definitely isn't being rendered twice. If the view is identical on the TV and subscreen, the high res scene only needs to be rendered once and then the resulting frame is simply copied and downscaled to the subscreen. Slap on the HUD elements and you're good to go. That's even less demanding than a panoramic video on the subscreen. It still looks great regardless.

If i remember correctly, there were multiple "settings" for the controller. You could have the overview, but you could also "look around" in the environment with the controller. As i recall, it definitely was rendered again in real time on the Upad... unless my memory forsakes me and it was ONLY running on the tablet and nomore on the TV.

You are correct.
You could change the scene and the camera. It, like the Zelda demo, were rendered 100% real time by the system.

ah, i see. i wonder how long they took to scramble that presentation together. a couple of all nighters? Reggie really didn't have enough time to practice in front of the mirror then. :P

thanks, guek!

The demo at the conference was "video", edited into an entire reel beforehand. Burned onto a disc probably, maybe outsourced to a media company... who knows how old the footage was. Could have been two weeks old, had to be done for rehearsals etc...

The version on the showfloor might have been just days old.

Check the shadows on the branches.

What do you think chances of us seeing a Yoshi Island remake on Wii U?

Also ozfunghi wow a lot more detail looks a lot more crisper detail.

Just thought of something amuzing top screen is Unreal engine 3 and bottom one is Unreal 3.95 :P

We've heard rumors of them making Epic Mickey 2 for the console for a while now.
Not sure if it was ever confirmed in any way.

I'm just hoping they are making the Wii U version the lead and then down porting it to the PS3/360 (maybe Wii?) since it's suppose to be coming out for those. The Wii/Wii U version are where the most sales are going to be. I hope they know this.

If there is a Wii version, it'll unfortunately be the lead platform. Makes sense from a financial point of view. I'd rather it was sacked for Wii and just made a Wii U launch title.

yeah, i noticed the difference. thanks anyway, though.

and looking at the video, it's still pretty blurry. why didn't Nintendo release a direct feed of this :(

Hell it's more than just the branches. Check out the bird. It's textures are better, it seems to have more polys (look at the wing). The two versions are like a reflection of this and next gen.

That bird demo seriously looks nice, I really don't think they would of done a video on the controller, I mean I guess it's possible, but its more than likely rendered twice, which makes it even more amazing.

Also I have to stop posting in the Wii U resolution thread, I don't want to get banned, I've only got 41 posts to go, and I've done what I could there to explain DPI.

probably because it wasn't a very good indication of final hardware. Reggie said multiple times that the Wii U on display at E3 was "just a box." Evidently a lot has changed with the dev kit between now and then.

At least we all hope it has.

don't bother. some people are obstinate and refuse to let logical arguments persuade them otherwise.

and is the bird demo really being rendered twice? wouldn't that be really taxing?

So opinion that goes against yours is not logical? I saw some decent arguments from both sides.

I hope they expand on the Bird Demo in E3

time is moving so slow I want to see games this thread needs leaks

people are already starting threads complaining about evry little aspect of this console but I just want my games

:I'm getting seasick on this train:

Same. I don't really see a benefit of it being on the Wii at this point. Sure there are more Wii systems out there but that means nothing in regard to game sales. It's pretty much dead it seems and Epic Mickey 2 wouldn't be some shovelware or bargin priced title. They'd want it sell as much as possible. It's best to launch it with the Wii U where people are buying anything and everything for those first few months. Hopefully it wouldn't need that to do well and will be a good game in the end.

Haha, yeah be careful there. I think that thread is full of people who want cutting edge components in all their electronics. That's certainly a valid perspective to have, but it's naive to expect nintendo to follow that route.

because with a blurry video we have to guess how exactly it looks like...

nintendo knows that we are not going to see any announcement and they wanna give us something to talk about :P

i never really implied that. nor do i agree with that. everyone's free to have their own opinion, even if i don't necessarily agree with it. i skimmed through the thread a bit and someone just seemed a bit obtuse about it. again, i didn't read through each argument point by point so i could have missed something.

Nintendo is so sadistic sometimes. and we fans are so masochistic. why do we even take this? :P
