Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

I hope this new, but I can't tell sicne this thread is too fast.

BREAKING NEWS:

We are hearing from our sources that there will be between ten to eleven Nintendo published retail games shown for the Wii U at E3, with the rest of the Wii U games being third party titles. It seems that Nintendo already knows what titles they will be revealing and displaying at E3 even though E3 is still a little less than three months away. Around 70 Wii U games are currently in development from a variety of publishers, and Nintendo will be publishing/releasing four Wii U games of their own before the end of 2012. We’ve been told that Nintendo is considering keeping the price of the Wii U lower than they want to, and they will release a tsunami wave of 3DS and Wii U software this holiday season to soften the blow from hardware losses.

According to our insider source, Nintendo has at least three new franchises in development by various studios for the Wii U. Nintendo has always been under criticism for recycling their existing franchises over and over again, and it seems that Nintendo may have taken some of that criticism to heart. Nintendo had recently published new intellectual properties such as Pandora’s Tower, Xenoblade Chronicles, and The Last Story for the Wii, and then they published Dillon’s Rolling Western, Pushmo, and Freaky Forms for the 3DS. It seems more evident that Nintendo is pushing harder for new franchises and more creativity.

Sounds possible and very tasty. We know they have grown their development teams in the last few years, and they claimed to want to deliver a strong launch line-up. 4 games for the couple of 2012 month the system will be on the market is a given. Wii had the same thing: TP, Wii Sports, Wii Play, and Wario Ware.

This will definitely be one of the four. It has a TBA 2012 date, and its published by Nintendo.

And Nintendo made it clear that 3DS did really well thanks to Mario games, so I think New Mario Bros Mii will be a launch title. Launching without Mario would be a big mistake for sales. Pikmin isn't a popular enough franchise to carry a nintendo console's launch on its back alone.

forgetthebox.net? Never heard of them, is there a chance this is actually legit?

If Pikmin 3 is released with the WiiU or near its release I will more than likely cave and get fleeced as an early adopter. If NSMB Mii is the best Nintendo has to offer however, I will wait.

If it's StarTropics I'm gonna wet my sofa during E3.

I'd also love a console Icarus, but something tells me that Nintendo is holding its breath to see how the 3DS revival works-out.

Has anything new surfaced about that rumored Nintendo event this month? I've scoured the Internet in hunt for more about it, but I couldn't find anything at all (except for what has been said here at NeoGAF).

This is what I'm wondering about.

The rumor does sound good and not off the wall crazy.

Like said Lego City Stories would have to be one of the possible four titles if this is true. There has to be Mario title of some kind. Then there should be Pikmin unless they push that back to 2013. I expect that to be Nintendo's holiday title for the console but not the "big" holiday title from them. That likely will be a 3DS title of some kind. That leaves the fourth game and that could be whatever Retro is likely working on then.

Would the demos from E3 2011 collected together and maybe expanded but Mario themed work as a Mario launch game? Anyone?

And some Retro employee on his twitter talked about how his team was going into "crunch time" so they must be trying to meet an important deadline.

Eleven Nintendo games at E3, 4 at launch, plus third party games, that would be amazing!

Article doesn't say 4 at launch, more like 4 before the end of 2012. So maybe four in the first 2-3 months of launch.

Also I wonder if we should count whatever they pack into the console as one of the four games (Wii Sports, etc)

Keep the price down on the console to sell more games, I like it. I'll be ready for that tsunami of software.

Is that selling at a loss (or break even) from $299 or $349 ?

Either Nintendo suped up their box and are selling it for a loss, or
they just want to sell their box cheaper because they feel threatened
by the competition...

We had some earlier rumors of WiiU selling at possible $250-299
http://wiiublog.com/that-wii-u-price-rumor/

New franchises doesn't equal sequels. Sounds like they're making a new rpg, something from miyamoto, action title for core games, and casual tablet game. One of these predictions is bound to happen :p

It's going to be $299.

Games: Wii U Feautette game like Wii Sports, Pikmin 3, Metroid or Wave Race (though I want F-Zero), and new IP.

The launch window basically. It really depends when Nintendo is launching, think about it four Nintendo games between Nov-Dec does seem like a lot, maybe this is a clue that the Wii U will launch earlier around Sep, you have 2 Nintendo games at launch in Sep then 2 around Nov/Dec. Look at what even you said "4 in the first 2-3 months", well if the Wii U is coming out in Nov there isn't 2-3 months till the end of 2012.

Its not exactly rendering twice, more correctly speaking is rendering 2 point of views. The extra one is a birds eye view.
Uh, so basically aren't they indeed rendering the scene twice? Like any splitscreen or 3D scene?

1. Wii vs U
2. Pikmin 3
3. New Super Mario Bros. Mii
4. LEGO City Stories

Downright classy site Forgetthebox.net says Nintendo is going to shake the earth at E3, unleashing a tsunami of software to drown the competition, irradiate fans with new IPs and post nuclear profits. The aftershocks will be felt in the industry for years.

So I've been thinking about the 10-11 games at E3 from that article, and who would be making each one.

Nintendo Worldwide R&D Divisions

Nintendo Software Planning & Development (Nintendo SPD)

The development group includes several of the original development officers from the old software and hardware development sectors. While the group leaders are decade old veterans, the bulk of the development teams working alongside are mainly newer employees. The development teams are minuscule compared to the average larger staffed Nintendo EAD project teams. The division is divided into three groups, one that develops in-house software, while the other two mainly co-develop and produce Nintendo Co. software with outhouse or external development teams.

Nintendo Entertainment Analysis and Development (Nintendo EAD)

The premier development team at Nintendo. The group is the largest concentration of R&D, housing more than 500 engineers and designers. The division is rather large and currently broken into six different subdivisions, each led by a designated producer. The overseeing managers are Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka. Currently, five divisions are located in the central Kyoto R&D building, while the sixth division resides in the Tokyo offices.

Nintendo Software Design & Development (Nintendo SDD)

The experimental team that created the Touch Generations line of software. The team is responsible for creating several Nintendo DS retail software and downloadable applications. Most of the Wii Channels are also developed by this R&D group.

Nintendo Network Service Development (Nintendo NSD)

Originally operated under Nintendo Special-Planning & Development. The division is described as an interesting mix of a hardware team coupled with a design team. The team creates both hardware peripherals, gadgets, toys, and software.

Nintendo Integrated Research & Development (Nintendo IRD)

Nintendo's hardware group specializing in all engineering and technological aspects of Nintendo's console development. The division also houses industrial designers who design peripherals such as the WaveBird, Wii Zapper, and Wii steering wheel. The group was originally known as Research and Development Department 3 (R&D3),[6] with the same primary functions, with the exception that manager Genyo Takeda enjoyed moonlighting by developing console and arcade games.

Nintendo Business Technology Development

The group in charge of producing and overseeing Nintendo Co. published software developed by other developers that need little development assistance other than funding and marketing. Examples of the software are games like Ogre Battle 64 and Kuru Kuru Kururin.

NSTC

American-based software development arm with a direct connection to the Nintendo-funded DigiPen University. The development team also features several employees who were transplanted from Nintendo Co., Ltd, Rockstar Games, and Electronic Arts among others.

Retro Studios inc.

Software development studio located in Austin, Texas, United States. Former Nintendo of America employee Michael Kelbaugh was appointed president of the branch. It is 100% owned and directed by Nintendo of Japan.

Nd Cube inc.

Software development studio located in Tokyo, Japan. Nintendo and Nintendo advertising firm Dentsu co-ventured this software studio which is 98% Nintendo owned, and 2% 3rd Parties

Project Sora inc.

Software development studio located in Tokyo, Japan. Nintendo and former Nintendo/HAL Laboratory employee Masahiro Sakurai founded this group to develop unique software possibly aimed at the core market. The company is currently 72% Nintendo and 28% of Sakurai's company Sora.

Brownie Brown

Nintendo-funded and owned software development studio located in Tokyo, Japan.

Monolith Soft

Software development studio located in Tokyo, Japan. This studio was previously owned by Namco Bandai, until 2007 when Namco-Bandai transferred 80% of its 96% stake to Nintendo. At a later date the remaining 16% was sold so the company is currently 96% Nintendo owned and 4% 3rd Parties.

Intelligent Systems

Software Development Studio located in Kyoto, Japan. This studio primarily focuses on the Fire Emblem series, and has worked with Nintendo since the launch of the NES. It is 100% owned and directed by Nintendo of Japan.

HAL Laboratory

Software Development Studio located in Tokyo, Japan. This studio is 100% owned by Nintendo.

In my haste to respond to the launch talk I kind of went right over this, 3 new Nintendo franchises sounds great, I wonder if any of those will come out in the first few months. The start of a gen is usually the best time to introduce a new IP.

If there is a Mario game I'm actually hoping it's Mario Golf. The last one was the GBA game in 2004 I think. We have Mario Tennis Open coming for the 3DS this year. I think a Mario Golf would cover several things.

1. Mario game at launch/window.
2. Shows off power of the system without having a team devote a ton of time so they could be already working on something else.
3. Uses the tablet controller to show the golf ball as shown in the trailer at E3 2011 while using the Wii remote (you already own or it's included in box).
4. Could show off the online system (rankings, communities, dlc (buy golf clubs, entire courses, etc).
5. Revives an IP that has been dorment for a while.
6. A title that is accessible and fun to both casuals and core gamers.

Wishful thinking I know. I just feel a Mario game doesn't actually have to be a platformer. I don't think it should be at launch either. Especially since Super Mario 3D Land has just come out. Save that for 2013 or 2014.

I hardly have any time to game these days, so I've actually been considering not getting anything at launch this gen (first time in a long time), but if they can come in at $250 again it will hard not to cave and jump in right off the bat.

Come on, Nintendo, tempt me.

That could mean 3 new IPs for Wii U's eShop.

I would like to know how legit is the box site since we have been linking them for a while now

70 titles sounds pretty good, I would love to see a launch window list

also I don't see why Pikmin 3 at launch would be questioned

Guessing the ten Nintendo-published games:

- New Super Mario Bros. Mii
- Pikmin 3
- WiiU Sports/Party/Play whatever
- Lego City Stories
- F-Zero (developed by a 3rd party)
- New casual IP (probably a simulator like Steel Diver)
- Intelligent Systems game (possibly WarioWare)
- Monolith Soft game (New IP)
- Retro Studios game (possibly DKCR2)
- Ice Climbers (Revived IP)

Yeah Pikmin 3 fits the launch perfectly.

-graphics
-gameplay with new controller
-(online) multiplayer
-Miyamoto IP
-good image amongst fans
