In context of his overall commentary at the time, it was quite good.
I'm naturally hesitant to glom-onto up-the-ass smoke-puffery from guys like him, but I'd be lying if I said his comments don't have me at least a bit intrigued.. and hopeful.

He also said about how UE3 can look better than the Zelda demo, so ask the people in the thread about what he said and they'll tell you "Wii U can't run UE4 confirmed."
What bothers me the most is the rampant ignorance in those threads. Dislike the Wii U all you want. Be pessimistic about its future, sure. But at least have the decency to educate yourself before you make hit and run doom posts or rant on and on about how it's the worst idea ever conceived. And I'm not even talking about the most current unsubstantiated rumors, but the basic facts such as what the Upad can be used for, what state of development the console was in last E3, and what developers have been saying recently about the system.
Going in those threads and trying to tell people what's what is a futile effort too since every 5 posts or so are from a new ill informed poster.

Well, that's kinda Nintendo's fault. The majority of the public only know the details from last years E3 since, you know, there haven't been any official details since last years E3.
Thing is, it's really not your job to educate the masses on the Wii U's lesser-known strengths. It's Nintendo's.
It's fun to speculate, and debate...but you're not going to turn the tide of opinion at the end of the day. Thinking you have even a snowball's chance in hell of doing that is an exercise in futility and will only serve to aggravate you and effect how you post on these boards. Save yourself the stress; give your opinion and move on like those hit-and-runners do.
Just wanted to post that, I agree with you 100%. If you look it, we have gotten some information since E3, but if you look at how this information got spread, you can understand someone not knowing about the different dev kit iterations. Let them bash Nintendo after E3, if Nintendo really dissapoint, but I feel a lot of people are going to be surprised how good the system acutally is: In terms of online, games, graphics and possiblities with the controller.

Seriously, though, it's ultimately nintendo's problem to educate the masses about what their product offers or how it differs from the competition's. As re Pachter - he is perfectly aware there's a sizable audience to the likes of his, erm, opinions, and he just make sure his voice gets well heard. I'm sure being correct is not the top of his priorities when he does that.

Well, some people on GAF had that reaction in the Conference Thread.
It was a dark day for GAF once Nintendo revealed it was X360/PS3 footage.

I wish I played Darksiders 1 now I've seen play through video on youtube and checked out giant bomb's quicklook I think I like the setting of this upcoming game better I how the WiiU version is noticeably better graphic wise
June 26 release has me crossing my fingers that WiiU has a soft launch after E3 and ramp up during the fall XD

they are now known for weak ass hardware so people love to point out weaknesses in anything Nintendo even early alpha dev kits
after showing a preview they close all doors and windows to new info so nobody knows what has changed or what the real improvements are

Today was interesting in the Wii U speculation thread: Pachter, 10,5 billion and Galaxy 3 on ipad 3, the hype level is still rising after the no-news shock of GDC. At this pace, Nintendo better not release a single news until the launch and they will still manage to sell 12M units like the Dreamcast. After that, 21th december, Pacheter's right and End Of Days!
On a (little) more serious note, the hype rising thing is incredible. I can see it going too much high and break at some point, in an unusual way. We are going to find our memes for the decades to come the weeks before E3.

But common sense also says that if you ignore something, you either don't talk about it; or you educate yourself a little before arguing...on top of admitting you made a mistake if you said something false or ignored something.
Seeing how many of the Wii U threads, also manage to bring the whole "resistive/capacitive talk" and in most of the cases, capacitive is always better... because is the only thing they've used and have this vague memories of resistive touchscreens like the game.com which sucked and you had to use good amount of pressure to choose stuff.
But many of this people, just don't even do basic research. They post something, you show them evidence that they're wrong and they still continue convinced that you're the one lying (lol nintendo fanboys, lol you own stock of resistive screens). And the same bullshit they post online, is the same bullshit they go and tell their friends; which later create accounts online and you see them in here, YouTube, IGN, etc. leaving random comments that leave you just wondering.

I was just lurker at that time but this was amazing to read. Many were bashing the Wii U because of graphics under the PS360 level, but it was PS360 footage

The fact that many still hold a grudge because of the Mortal Kombat-SNES days; even when the next year an uncensored MKII appeared on the SNES.
Nintendo could come clean reigth now and post every detail abou the Wii U, and many won't change their stance; since their minds has already been made. Mark Rein could say that UE4 runs on Wii U and looks incredible and many will still say that "it's probably a scaled-down version, not "the true UE4".
As you said, people believe what they want to believe.

Well, to be fair, I can see why people thought those games looked worse than PS360 games.
It's because they do.
Seriously, both Ninja Gaiden and Darksiders II looked pretty rough around the edges in those builds. In fact, in my opinion they still look a little rough compared to the BEST that we've seen on PS3 and 360.
So people saw those games, saw that they were for Wii U (which would naturally make you compare them to the best of what you've seen from "last-gen" systems), and made a logical - if ultimately incorrect - leap.
We just later learned that those games look worse than graphically impressive PS360 games because they just do, and NOT because of the Wii U's hardware.

no one is stopping them from pulling off an E3 of epic proportions ala 2004. No one could watch that and say "Nintendo is lame, kiddy, has shit graphics, doesn't care about hardcore gamers, etc."
That shit was a masterpiece. Brings a tear to my eye!
I actually dug up my DVD of the conference and was thinking of streaming it for WiiUGAF. We need a bit of hype, this thread is dying. Anyone interested?

If we are talking about the 3rd Party WiiU video... I dunno if its a mind trick of perception but I agree those things were early and the only reason I dug them was because even at early meh they blew the socks of what the Wii could do I never thought of them as better than PS3/360 I was always hoping and seemed sensible that hardware coming years after current consoles should be pushing 10x the graphics power
so I don't see what people are getting worked up about... if after this E3 people are still saying this then I'll call it trolling because I expect polished products although with third parties you will always have that lazy ugly duckling among the bunch rushed out to make launch for piggy back sales

We don't even have a leaked/cellphone pic from a third-party game. From Nintendo, is expected..but not even a picture of Assassins Creed III or something; when there are many people working on multiple Wii U games for this year...is quite incredible. XDI find it astounding that we don't have a single solid screenshot of a Wii U game that isn't an alpha build. Really incredible...

I think you guys overreact to the Nintendo drive by comments, it happens to everything on all sorts of threads. Vita/PS3 has no games is doomed, 3DS is Doomed, Xbox dudebro RROD, $599, Wii kiddy waggle, Nintendo can't sell 3rd party games the list could go on or years.
