Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

yay more empty fields

This is the last thing I want from Zelda. You can get this already with Twilight Princess. Less pretty, but it's there.

Not as big and empty as TP and not as closed as SS is my preference, I always liked OoT size and overworld.

But what I really want is a
Dark Souls
-like overworld.

I would actually like that kind of overworld for a Mario game! The game saves after every flag and you can basically choose your path to the castle. Each section is a small platforming section that is a bit more complex and in between you have paths with platforming and some enemies. You can also find random bosses that drop 1UP and power ups. Would be awesome. *.*

Now for some feels bad man-type speculation.

Zynga.
They are highly likely to make games for the Wii U.
This will open the floodgates for MAXIMUM CRAP that does really well.

How do we stop this? Do we want to stop this?

If the console is successful you will see shovelware. If it fails not so much. You should want Zynga aboard.

Yeah, the amount of shovelware indicates the success of a system: The console with the most shovelware are the PS2, the Wii and the Nintendo DS. Both the PS2 and the DS got a lot great 3rd party games as well.

So Mario 64 without jumping into paintings. That idea has been thrown around, I think it would be pretty cool. As long as the Super Mario 64 style returns, I'm happy.

Yeah, that does sound great, open world path to the castle, yummy.

Maybe Ancel changed his mind, because Nintendo bribed Ubisoft to support B&GE2 and publish it as an exclusive game for Wii U.

Exclusivity might not make sense. But from what I recall, BG&E1 sold "well" on the Cube, at least compared to the other consoles.

I wonder if this is ever considered..

Ah, this news aridness. And those interviews provide very little. If only...

By the way, this popped up yesterday on Nintendo's IR page: Apr. 26, 2012 Fiscal Year Earnings Release [Scheduled]

If whatever event in conjunction with the Record Date for Year-End Dividends for the 72nd Fiscal Year on the 31st of March doesn't bring any news, that's probably what we have to look forward to. Unless that rumored event this month or a Nintendo Direct broadcast take place before that date.

Some hackers should get into the wario world site and get us the delicious documentation inside :(

Am I the only one sad that the site is called warioworld.com instead of warioware.com?

The cursor's blinking, right? I'm not crazy.

There's no event; that's just noting the end of the fiscal year. Wait until late next month.

Not directly. Dark Soul's is open world, but kind of not, because you don't have a lot of places that you visit. I don't know if you know One Piece, but the Grand Line explains my idea:

Just with a lot of intersections, so you can switch paths all the time.

Wario World?
Nintendo's US/EU support page for software development.

I know they usually issue a notice of dividends 20-25 days after the record date, but seeing their recent slump in stocks etc. it could be beneficial for them to provide some more material for their investors.

Ah, how boring, just wanted to suggest him to go to bed. :(

What about the chance of achievements for the Wii U? They kind of did them for the Mii Plaza.

Nah not really a fan of One Piece, only have 60 volumes or so =P

But I don't know if it gets any more open world than Dark Souls. There's at least 15 areas in the game, and there's 18 stages in Mario 64, if you include the Bowser stages. I'd like the series to return to the "7 stars per area" style of level design, rather than the more linear, 2 or 3 star per stage style of Mario Galaxy.

I feel like the Mario 64/Sunshine style works better on console, and I'd like to see a Galaxy-style Mario on 3DS.

I bet they do some sort of achievement thing for the Wii U, the other consoles have shown some people get obsessed with achievements and because of that buy more games to rank up, if it makes Nintendo extra coin they might as well do it. I wonder what they would call it though, maybe you get stars instead of trophies as a hat tip to Mario? Different colors mean a bigger deal, like PS3 gives you Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze.

"I'm no longer that excited about next-gen technology; it means budgets go up," he explained. "It sucks. The biggest thing I want is what you get from the PSP and the 3DS - it's always on, there's a sleep mode and I can just hit a button and I'm right back where I was and I don't have to go through all the boot-up shit."

I'm not even a fan of God of War. But this man is on the mark.

Basically ever device/tech I own I leave in sleep mode for almost it's whole entire life and it's great, it's weird that consoles are the only thing I have that can't emulate that.

There is Mario vs. Donkey Kong, so is not like Mario and DK won't "face" again outside sports/Smash. Even Pauline made a return too.

He is really anti-"boot up screen, mandatory firmware update, mandatory install". This is coming from a man who makes games exclusively for Playstation. Just goes to show how much of a problem that shit is.

I wonder how Nintendo is going to deal with that kind of stuff with Wii U...surely they won't fuck it up as badly as Sony has with PS3.

I thought about the same some days ago. I never turned off my 3DS, it's in sleep mode when I don't play.

But then again, consoles have a huge power consumption and I don't use them as much as a PC for example.

I think he's actually brought this up before in an interview. He's spot on with it though. I hate the fact that I have to work around a UI before starting a game. It used to be starting a game and starting your console were synonymous, but not anymore.

no idea, doubt it :P

Would be great though to just put the console in sleep mode when you're done playing, then a a bunch of hours or a day later wake it up and instantly continue.
Didn't Iwata say that they plan on having the Wii U connected to the interweb all the time?
I'm confused, sorry.

If Wii U is able to basically go in and out of sleep mode, this would be a killer app for me.

There's a reason why I play handhelds a lot more than before. Sleep mode FTW!

no idea but that doesn't really have a lot to do with what we mean by sleep mode

If the 3DS can go into sleep mode, why can't the Wii U?
it's not even just 3DS, everything goes in sleep mode. My phone, my computer, my mp3 player, the vita, the 3ds, the laptop, the tablet, etc...

Tis annoying and would be nice.

Yeah, after I press submit it hit me what you meant. Come to think of it, wonder why consoles can't when everything else could.
