Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

miyamoto_reggie.jpg

I just had the greatest idea eva

As you know, Reggie launched the BigFoot pizza when he worked at Pizza Hut !

Imagine a Nintendo & PH collaboration to make a Wii U controller pizza to promote the system for its release ! It's not that far-fetched, the shape is rather similar. Now we have to find what type of ingredients to put on it to make the screen, the buttons, etc.

my take on the new Pikmins

Water Pikmin (he can swim)
Air Pikmin (he can fly)
Fire Pikmin
Electric Pikmin (he break dances to shock enemies)
Ninja Pikmin (a scout / recon pikmin sometimes invisible)

:3

and I am not even a Pikmin fan

would love that, but i'm sure miyamoto will surprise us at E3... this game has been in development
hell
for years, they better come up with the best sequel ever!

- First title change
- First GAF Photoshop
- Birthday

I think this is a fine day that should be remembered eons to come, nickcv.

Happy birthday!

i just hope not to had "first ban" to the list :P

thanks man!

I find it astounding that we don't have a single solid screenshot of a Wii U game that isn't an alpha build. Really incredible...

and no, I don't think NSMB:Mii counts :-P

Actually I don't find it that astounding at all, same thing happened with Gamecube, Wii, DS and 3DS; Nintendo just don't let any leaked screenshots come out before they decide it's time and we all should know by now.

On this video, the guy can look around the environment on the Upad by moving the Upad around, while the TV shows the regular demo:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVKMMYFbVgk

So i guess the garden demo has 2x real time footage, unless the footage on the Upad is some sort of quicktime thing. Difficult to see from this angle/distance.

edit: this one is even better

Yeah, being able to look around like that doesn't necessarily rule out panoramic video or image with overlays, although maybe panoramic isn't the best word. Is there a better term for an image/video that includes a full 360 view vertically as well as horizontally?

Anyway, thanks for that second video! Pretty good view of the subscreen. It's still hard to say for sure what is actually being done, but it looks great regardless. If the scene is being rendered twice, that just magnifies the impressiveness of that demo.

Oh! Since we are on the topic of Nintendo cakes:
I made a Mario themed cake when I was in high school (culinary arts class).
Here are some pics

I should hone my skills so that Nintendo can hire me as their personal cake-maker. Then I'll be able to get inside information about the Wii U :D

Yeah, i know what you mean, that's what i meant with quicktime (VR). I know it won't be quicktime, but nevertheless, we mean the same thing.

Well i don't know if i invented it but i like it and use it since the reveal of the subscreen :)

A mix of joypad + tablet of course, i don't know if it may means something else in an underground slang common in the sewers of Chicago, etc ? Maybe i'm insulting people when i write this word and i'm not even aware of it ! /afraid

good idea about slang I have submitted it for you on Urban Dictionary you are now famous :3

I reckon some of those already exist in Pikmin2:

Red Pikmins that can endure fire
Blue Pikmin who don't drown when they go into water
Pikmins that can endure electricity(they may be the white ones but I'm not sure)

I never played that one :3 like I said I'm not really a fan of Pikmin but I'll take them over Donkey Kong any day I hate monkeys :)

This one reminds me of something I played, I can clearly recognise that scenario, but I cannot recollect which game...
Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness (GameCube). :p

I still remember that around the E3 revelation of it, Game Informer leaked that reveal along 'Twilight Princess' as the subtitle for Zelda.

People said it was fake because "XD" was a smiley face. :p

Has Nintendo ever made game compilations/collections? I haven't played the first two Pikmin games but I really want to. I think it would be great if they were included with Pikmin 3 and it's pretty reasonable since the Pikmin series skipped the Wii. Well, there was New Play Control! Pikmin but there was only one in NA.

Edit: I just remembered Metroid Prime: Trilogy. They should make a Pikmin Trilogy disk.

It is, and it is the worst one. even gaffers use it, and i occasionally rage about it

But yeah, that game shows that it's not RIDICULOUS to imagine a console version. It's definitely doable, and wouldn't be bad at all.

Maybe Wii U will be the one console that makes it happen...

Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness (GameCube). :p

Yeah, in fact I played that one, but I can't recall any details about the games - apart from fights - even now that you have told me, only that one had to pass through those houses and there was some kind of mission.

Edit: now I vaguely recall the stream was a sort of road to another area, but in order to reach it you had to clear a mission in the village.

...are the yellows ...and they are also lighter than the others.
Whites can poison enemies and Purples are 10 time stronger (and heavy) than "regular" Pikmin.

Everybody wants Pikmin 3 ...play the Gamecube version first :D

I enjoyed the game. Not as well made or as good as the portable, but as close as "the portable experience" has been so far...on a console.

Plus the whole thing about stealing other Pokémon was cool.

I think that village was also used in Colosseum, but not sure.

After the second video, i have higher hopes of it being real time footage, but it is hard to tell.

I think it is save to say the demo is realtime, because it is possible to change the camera angle on the TV as also on the u pad.

I don't know much about Render tech, is it possible to render the scene only once and have 2 different cameras, or must it be rendered twice to archieve one close up to the scene and one panorama view?

Yes, each one of those new Pikmins were useful at some point, only thing I dislike of Pikmin2 is that pits' stuff; once you enter one of those long pits and you realise you have picked the wrong types of Pikmins you cannot go back and the autosave doesn't let you revert to the previous save file, so annoying...

Maybe that's why I still have to finish that game in my backlog.

You sure it's Gale of Darkness, the redhead reminds me of Colosseum.

Why can't we have more games that look like that :(
Lol cartoon kiddy games don't see ecxept for nintnedo manbies.

:p

But yeah, Ni No Kuni sold quite bad in Japan.
Imagine if they announce that Level 5 is making a console Pokémon game, using the same "engine"/look from Ni No Kuni. :p

2 different camera's = rendering twice.

You will get better results with 2 camera views of the same scene, than having 2 different views of two different scenes though.

The view on the Upad could still be a 360° video as has been suggested, from a fixed center point.

PS: misread. If you are just using a close-up of the other view, i guess you'd only need to render once

Has more to do with Level 5 than anything, though.
If it was Pokemon, it would sell insanely well.

Broken logic to me. We saw that the Pokemon Colosseum games sold fractions of the source work. The point is the perfect platform for Pokemon is hand helds. Spending triple the budget to make a higher fidelity console game but make 1/8th the money back is something that may never change. The trading and battle nature of Pokemon probably suits younger gamers playing on the go and exchanging data on the go than this ideological sitting in front of a 60" inch television with an hd charizard blowing fire in front of you.

Somethings sells better on hand helds. Somethings sell better on consoles. The two are not easily interchangeable.

we need a side by sight view of the TV and the upad in the end of the tech demo, when the bird sits on the snowy roof. The econd video shows the bird een on the TV with the upad and the bird moves. When both is rendered, the movements should be synchrone on both screens?

And if it is a simple video, how did Nintendo manage the seamless transition between the different seasons? It is still under the user control when the next part is rendered.

A coverage of the demo only focussed on the upad would be great. If it is Video, there should be discrepancies between the different parts of the demo (the flying leaves and so on).

The only way I see a console Pokémon game selling well (or close to the handheld ones) is if they not only make it the same as the handheld games (obviously with the expected visuals ad sound upgrades); but that both versions interact too.

More than just trading Pokémon, but also playing and interacting with owners of a possible 3DS version. Like the usual 2 colors for 3DS and the same day, a third color..but for the Wii U. And show, promote, advertise it as the "same game"; not as some spinoff or something.
