Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

B3D dude supposedly in the know has this to say about Retro :

" Btw bgassasin, tell those maniacs in the in Gaf thread that Retro is definitely not working a next-gen DK. They are aggressively targeting the XBOX/PS3 demographic."

"I referenced Retro, bgassassin, because their project is for the "broader" demographic. It is not DK, LOZ, nor MP. It is extremely visually impressive, or so I am told. "

Retro bought Perfect Dark from Rare and are making a true sequel!

Believe

I like how, in that quote, it references a mythological "xbox/ps3 demographic." As if they're some cartoonishly monolithic entity. What do they mean by that? 20something males obsessed with boobs and blood? Middle-schoolers desperately trying to look bad-ass? Middle-aged women who like to exercise with Kinect or Move?

It definitely bugs me when all Nintendo fans are summarized as X, and seeing it done to owners of the other machines kinda bugs me also.

Sorry if already reported. Analyst bs...

Analyst: Wii U won't drive publisher shares
Not really Pachter level bullshit:

We note that while the WiiU will launch later this year, we do not view it as a likely driver of third party publisher shares given their historically low exposure to Nintendo platforms.
If publishers don't support a platform, that platform won't have any (positive) effect on the stock price - it's an obvious and logical conclusion.

Ah come on...almost 3 months until E3 and it is already so hard.

So many hype trains, so much awesomeness to be yet so my disappoint in the making!

A stand to maintain the padlet and use its camera ?

Certainly that was implied in the Iwata Asks at last year's E3. regarding Wii Fit.

Miyamoto:

And you can leave it in a state where you're able to check your weight right away. In that way, it'll be closer to what we envisioned Wii Fit to be. I can't really talk about it in detail, but we're working on new ways to do training exercises with Wii Fit, like using the camera, you can place it against something and play while the game looks at your status.

Iwata:
It certainly seems possible from an engineering standpoint that the camera will recognize you if you position the new controller to look at you. Moreover, it would be much more accessible if all you have to do is to hold it, press a button and stand on the Wii Balance Board.

Yes it's the more likely solution. Maybe this stand will be shipped with the system, or available with the games which required it. Or a way to put the padlet vertically without any additional stuff.

btw, this news about Wii U Your Shape may put some interesting lights to a small leak that i intended to do in april. There's maybe a news in the news if you like.

Joke aside, this indeed looks like Retro is doing a new FPS IP, the first one for Nintendo since Goldeneye/Perfect Dark from Rare.

This would be such a waste of talent. With Prime they've shown their skills as a developer for Action Adventures, not FPS. WiiU will get all the shooter games from 3rds now anyway. At least for quite some time.

75 days, and there's still so much that we don't know. I'm still struggling to see how they're going to fit it all into one show. If I get my wish, it'll be 90 minutes rather than 75. 20 minutes spent on 3DS items of interest at the beginning, and then 70 minutes of Nintendo Juicy bliss. Little-to-no blue ocean stuff this time around.

I think it's basically stating that Pit will make an appearance in the future Smash Bros on 3DS + Wii U.

It's what I first thought but you never really know with online translations, depending the tool I use to translate it says one thing and the opposite. ^^

nfbHV.gif

pretty much :(

doa 5 and killer freaks probably won't be that good. ac3 will be a rushed port. dragon quest x will be late 2013 at the earliest, and capcom something will be 2014 at the earliest. project cars won't be worth the money, and mickey will probably even disappoint fans of the first.

there, i just saved you a few hundred dollars.

:| thanks I guess I'll buy that new iPad after all

I'm really hoping it isn't some generic FPS with Retro and Nintendo's name slapped on it. I dunno why, but I just don't really have high hopes for this, I guess we'll see in the future.

Reading the above analysis about the Wii U not driving publisher sales, I'm wondering: has Nintendo said anything about making the development process more affordable for this upcoming generation?

I know that they made some notable moves regarding free middleware, but I'm slightly worried about them losing their superior position over the competiton regarding affordable development. After seeing so many studio closures from 2006 onward due to high development costs and associated unsustainable business models, I think Nintendo should keep a laser-like focus on this angle.

{Also, an E3 prediction: Nintendo will go for an element of surprise by showing either a teaser for the next Zelda title, or one for the next Mario Universe game.}

I've decided to stick with my iPad 2. Not quite sold on #3, and I'm trying to stick with this one until #5.. unless #4 has something absolutely incredible that I just have to have. My current one goes absolutely everywhere with me, and does a fine, fine job.

...and Lego City Stories, Aliens: Colonial Marines and Wii U sports.

Not to mention right after launch we should, hopefully, have the next Call of Duty as well. If so Treyarch should just rip off whatever EA is doing with Ghost Recon Online as far as the touch screen menu interface is concerned.

Don't believe Rare is working on a FPS either for this reason. So many are already coming out and it will launch around the time of the biggest CoD as well. I do wonder if F-Zero is a possiblity given that they did help develop Mario Kart 7. It's been dorment for a while now and Retro has shown itself able to develop in different genres already. The spot would be open for a sometime on the Wii U since Mario Kart 7 just came out. Nintendo isn't likely to have 8 out for few years.

Could be worse, could be a generic Gears rip off. We could really do without that. If it is a FPS, then I wouldn't mind it being like Perfect Dark. That game was anything but generic. And the weapons in that game were so imaginative, and fun to use. It's one of the things I like about Conduit 2.

I don't recall Nintendo saying much about it. I suppose its because Nintendo has to bite the bullet now. Iwata did say that Nintendo isn't going to bother trying to get "drawn into the expensive tech race" with Microsoft and Sony. As this would put developers in the position of having to risk massive resources and long development times.

I like those terms, as they are much more flexible than the terms I've used or seen used in recent years. This generation has forced us to think about the words we use when discussing or describing types of audiences and behaviours, and I still have some degree of awkwardness when navigating this territory.

In another forum, I once claimed that there is such a thing as a "hardcore Animal Crossing player." Folks had trouble wrapping their minds around that concept.

Exactly. There are different things that a person can focus on and I think too often the general application just leads to confusion.

I've learned that more than a few around here are put-off by that term. Offends their delicate sensibilities. I'm still looking for a better term.

That's why I changed because hardcore to a lot of people here is like fingernails on a chalkboard.

Another important thing said was:

I meant specifically the ARM9 line of component processors was out of the "equation". Nintendo and ARM have indeed grown quite close as business partners, they will again be providing an applications processor core. A proprietary solution specifically for Nintendo. Marvell will not, as it is not SOC.

From a gameswelt.de : Darksider Wii U seems to be confirmed for launch...

Are we talking 1 or 2?

Iwata did say that Nintendo isn't going to bother trying to get "drawn into the expensive tech race" with Microsoft and Sony. As this would put developers in the position of having to risk massive resources and long development times. In regard to first-party software, not all games will need to feature rich HD graphics except for obvious franchises like Zelda.
This worries me more than most things regarding next generation. I hope that Nintendo can convince developers and publishers that, yes, there is a better and smarter and non-suicidal way of running a business. I hope they can lead by example to show that not every game has to be a multi-million-dollar budget blockbuster that requires several million units sold just to break even. Nintendo has to hold-onto that high ground.

Are we talking 1 or 2?

He says 2.

"Davon darf ich echt keine Details preisgeben. Aber es sieht echt gut auf der Wii U aus. Unsere Entwickler arbeiten mit Feuereifer und es wird echt cool werden", so Rhandawa gegenüber GamesweltTV. Zum Entwicklungsstand führte er weiter aus: "[Wir sind] Ziemlich weit, wir kommen gut voran. Das Spiel wird zur Markteinführung der Konsole auf jeden Fall veröffentlicht werden."

He is not allowed to give any details about this version, but he is pretty sure that this will be done when the Wii U launches.

Will 3D games (with glasses) be possible / likely on Wii U? I mean the PS3, and to a lesser extent 360, both have these. I'd like to see what the extra performance of Wii U could mean to 3D gaming with glasses.
(I don't mind wearing them, haven't minded since the SMS).

Unless one of the Wii U's secret features is a 3D on the subscreen

I doubt we're going to see another Zelda until at LEAST the E3 following this one.

On the Wii U? More than likely. But I would think there's at least a possibility of a Zelda 3DS making an appearance, considering Ocarina of Time will have been out for a year already and that engine is just sitting there, waiting to be utilized. EAD typically has a small team break off from the larger development (in this case, Skyward Sword) in order to prepare for future projects, and if Grezzo offered asset support, they could at least have a trailer prepared.

Fingers crossed, anyway.
