Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

Those screens look really nice if they are for Wii U. The environments looks absolutely gorgeous, but the character designs make me want to barf. That's a shame.

Yeah, those screens look better than any DS2 shots I've seen thus far! And I'm not just talking about lack of jaggies, I mean the detail, effects, and shading seem to be on another level.

I'm calling bullshots. The game will look alright, but those are most likely bullshots.

I hope Wii U is close to that though. PS360 footage looks ok, but the amount of jaggies and lower res textures in footage I've seen is a bit surprising.

it just looks too clean. Looking like that at 720p locked at 60fps would blow my mind.

Hearing rumors about Retro not working on a Donkey Kong sequel really starts pissing me off!!

I know it's a good thing that such a legendary studio is working on a Wii U title, but STILL.

It really makes me angry! DK fucking DESERVES a sequel. It's one of the best games on Wii, it was received tremendiously well and has sold ~5 Million copies.

If this game came out 2 years earlier before it's original release, the Wii would still be on it's peak popularity-wise and I'm sure we would have already gotten one.

But no... I had to came out late in the life-cycle. They think it's probably not worth it anymore.

A Sequel would be such an easy bet, thoug! Just put Dixi in, focus on a pirate theme for the art style and BAM - 100% success/6 Million sold - EASY MONEY!!!!

We'll probably get a 3DS sequel. Bank on it.

The chatter I have heard about NDAs expiring in April seems to mostly be about multiplatform games

There will be a big push for a lot of multiplats next month (AC3, Darksiders 2, etc.) and Nintendo doesn't want to be left out.

Supposedly.

That would be good, having games coming out this year constantly said to be releasing for 360/PS3 and not Wii U could possibly hurt the uninformed consumer. I also think it's a good sign for first-party showings at E3, if Nintendo is willing to have some of thier big third-party games talked about before E3 I reckon that means they have thier own stuff that they think will turn some heads.

Nothing is stopping them from dropping a DK sequel in 3-4 years. Especially if they are getting a second team.

BTW, darksider's art seems weak. Just doesn't look that great to me.

Those shots prove that good AA can add so much to the overall IQ. This is why I love to play on the PC, you can make almost everything look that clean + get a uncomparable perfomance boost.

Would be cool if the Wii U version looked like that (probably not).

That sounds most wise. Letting multiplatform floodgates open on "superior" versions could convince people to wait for wii u.

That's the main reason i couldn't play Mass effect 3 on the 360.I bought mass effect 1 and 2 on the pc played both of the again so i can play 3 with way better IQ.

Right, the fact that DCKR2 came out a little later in the Wii's cycle probaly means we won't see another main console DK until a few years in the Wii U's life cycle.

Yup, plus you can change the .ini with a few tweaks for additional stuff like better textures. There are really good screenshots in that PC screenshot thread from ME2 and ME3.

It would be interesting. Maybe we'll hear about how the U-pad will be used in games like AC III or Darksiders II.

Remids me, April means Captivate '12. Hmmm...

I'm going to sleep hope to wake up to some leaks.
Hahahahahaha oh my, hahahaha.

See.. if those are indeed Wii U shots, I can't see how anyone would truly be worried about the U's power. Unless they're truly, deeply concerned with peniswattage.
I think I haven't been subjected to enough high end graphics because most didn't look that impressive to me. Although I do get the point about AA that someone mentioned.

Yeah if pubs are going to do their blowouts, missing out on that would be unwise

Those Dark Siders 2 screenshots look great.

Say what you will about the art of DS2, at least it has an art direction that's interesting.

I feel the opposite. My guess is that the Wii U won't look that much better (because they're launch games and ports) and the consumer will think negatively toward the system.

You're a solid citizen, blu.
*tips hat*

Seriously though, Echoes is the pinnacle of the franchise for me. It's alien in all the right ways (unlike some fashionable space operas..*cough*). And most of all, it conveys best the idea of the lone soldier finding herself in the wrong war, having to fight for her own life, while also trying to tip the balance according to her human morale. Unfortunately, Corruption had very little of that atmosphere (basically one level - Valhalla), and none of the story telling of Echoes. But hey, I'm a very patient person - I can wait as long as it takes to play another sci fi adventure like Echoes one day.

Ok, I'm going to put on my conspiracy theory hat on for the footage of epic mickey 2 that just got posted. Here are my comments in that thread:

The shots at 45 seconds is obviously Wii version since you can see the cursor waving around. We also know that's not the PS3 version+move because it looks nothing like this:

But the 360 footage at 55 seconds doesn't look any different from the wii version. The lighting in the off screen shot above looks so much better than any of the footage in that video.

The discrepancy between the footage in the video and that off screen shot leads me to believe that might be a wii u screenshot. But then why would they make that version the only one with improved lighting/textures/etc.? It could very well be the blurry off screen shots that are playing tricks on my eyes, but nonetheless, I find it interesting to think about.

It's almost as though he planned this.

Whoa.

Quick, get him to go to sleep again! He's like a catalyst for rumours!

Oh, and RETRO doing a DK game would be a huge waste - as in, for launch. They need to make a big impact if they want to reach their goals, so a fully blown HD FPS is perfect.
Save a DK reboot for a few years later, when the console is safe and better established.

BTW, one topic I don't ever remembering being discussed is Wii U game pricing. Do you think Nintendo 1st party games are going to be $49.99 and what about 3rd party games, $49.99 also?

Or will Nintendo just go with the standard current HD game pricing: $59.99.

Well spotted! I think this is a safe assumption to be honest.

Good work guek. Now hit the showers.

Well it could definitely go both ways. It'll likely be both a good and a bad thing. People can't wait for the wii u version though if they don't know it's coming.

I suspect that third parties, citing HD development costs, will go to the $60 price point, and that Nintendo will feel pressured into following suit. If Nintendo were to undercut them at $50, they'd whine to no end about how they have no chance competing against Nintendo titles that have much more prestige and a smaller pricetag.

I would have no problem if only they had sticked to the original style, which looks just much more proficient than the edgy, cheap-texture style Retro chose.

Actually, I think Retro should do a 3D title. Their talent should not be wasted, there are enough studios capable of producing 2D Nintendo games.

Holy shit, another Echoes bro? Fuck yeah. Echoes is the pinnacle of the Metroid Prime series imho. It's also a strong contender for best Metroid beside Super on my personal scale and most of it had to do with the points you've brought up here alongside its insanely OCD and labyrinthine but logical design. Also Morph Ball love. Also puzzle bosses out in full force. Also music. Also best use of evil doppelganger trope in the series (Chaotic neutral "Oh hey, you're here too? Cool, I'mma fuck you up now, k?" Dark Samus >>>>> "FITE ME FOR TEH FATE OF TEH EVERYTHING" Dark Samus in Prime 3)

...

Fuck I want to play it again but I have no GCN memory cards on me and Triology is expensive. :(

Not sold on the conspiracy, but just for the sake of adding to discussion, there's also the smaller screen displaying the same image below the bigger one. Subscreen development anyone? :P

We'll have a better idea when they show it on gttv later today. They'll undoubtedly use the PS360 build if they show gameplay since NDAs would prevent them from using Wii U stuff. If the trailer looks like that screenshot above, then I'm wrong. If the discrepancy still remains, however, the screenshot above would definitely be from an unannounced platform, namely Wii U.
