Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

As very unlikely as that is to happen ;_; RIP Hudson Soft

i thought i'd read a Japanese article about how whilst Hudson and "dat bee" are dead, "some" (read: Bomberman) franchises would continue but would fall under the Konami banner ?

Perhaps i'm imagining it.

Though i do have Saturn Bomber man and a metric ton of controllers and adapters so i'm only mildly as interested! ;)

Oh Hi-Ten blew away the Saturn's 10-player mode, look at the comparison shots in my Hi-Ten thread.

I suspect strongly that that Nintendo-Capcom relationship spreads far and wide beyond their 3DS coziness.
Maybe they've got something new, but looking at their top Japanese franchises I'm not sure what they could announce for Wii U that would cause a big shock. Monster Hunter is primarily portable and its console home was already Wii. Ace Attorney is another portable franchise. The next Resident Evil and Devil May Cry games are already known to be multiplatform. I guess their next biggest franchise at the moment in Japan is Sengoku Basara.

I'd rather Good Feel work on something else. Maybe a new Yoshi game.

Shame nothing ever came of that Good Feel Yoshi rumor from last year, hopefully at E3 and all. The arts and crafts style from Kirby's Epic Yarn and the YI/YS series storybook style in 1080p on a widescreen TV, please.

Ok, I'm going to put on my conspiracy theory hat on for the footage of epic mickey 2 that just got posted. Here are my comments in that thread:

The shots at 45 seconds is obviously Wii version since you can see the cursor waving around. We also know that's not the PS3 version+move because it looks nothing like this:

But the 360 footage at 55 seconds doesn't look any different from the wii version. The lighting in the off screen shot above looks so much better than any of the footage in that video.

The discrepancy between the footage in the video and that off screen shot leads me to believe that might be a wii u screenshot. But then why would they make that version the only one with improved lighting/textures/etc.? It could very well be the blurry off screen shots that are playing tricks on my eyes, but nonetheless, I find it interesting to think about.

You dont think that could be a target render? I dont see the cursor that Epic Mickey uses. Just what looks like a fairy. I mean that could be the cursor... but thats not what it looks like in the footage you posted.

I don't get it..what are you trying to say?

I'm not sure either, but I never complain when someone links to the best game title screen.

This, really.

RETRO deliver each iteration of the Metroid series with such mastery, it really is astonishing.
From the title screen alone, the game hits you with an immense dose of atmosphere and style.
The music, the background, the animated titles... they're so good at what they do, it really would be a shame to have them do something else, unless it remains similar in approach and style to the 'Prime series.
I know, they're a very adaptable team. But damn, they know what they're doing with Metroid.

If anyone else made 'Prime 4, it just wouldn't feel right.

Their creativity and execution is superb - imagine what they could do with a more powerful system.
'Prime 4 is the one game I want to see RETRO do, purely for their incredible record with the series and the prospects the Wii U holds for them and their highly talented team of individuals.

Rant over.

tl;dr: RETRO should do 'Prime 4.

Yoshi with everything made of felt would look amazing.

That'd be sweet but I prefer the straight up hand drawn look of YI. I want to play a Yoshi's Island sequel on my TV that looks like this:

If it's a target render, it's a pretty bad one. Not visually, more conceptually. I mean it's a weird angle and background to use as a target render. For that I'd expect either a close up of mickey or a something that showed off the entire area without a quarter of it just being a blank wall and having some mysterious structure half off the page.

The footage I posted was of the Wii version, which definitely has the old cursor from the original game. What's in the picture could be a new animated cursor only seen in the ps3/wii u version, or it could definitely be something else (why would it be a fairy though?). The main thing that stood out to me is that it looks way better than the 360 footage.

I'm not saying it's proof of anything definite, I'm just pointing out the possibility that it's a wii u screenshot :-)

I'd love a Pikmin game where it's claymation.. so incredible a medium.

(and if I had one pick of a Hudson revival, it'd be a close fight between Milon's Secret Castle and Adventure Island. Probably the former.)

Blergh, no. That's so anaemic and boring looking. Where's the shading?

I'd much rather have something that looks like this but in 1080p with AA.

Dunno if this is correct, but these were the Revolution devkits (supposedly):

  • V1: Gamecube with wired Wiimote
  • V2: Slightly modified V1
  • V3: Faster CPU, still wired, released in January 2006
  • V3.5: Near final kits, wireless Wiimote
  • V4: Final silicon

Wii U kits for comparison, should be mostly complete (and correct - I think):

  • V0: Alpha kit, least RAM of all kits, unreleased(?)
  • V1: The first "real" development kit, distributed a few months before E3 when the actual chipset wasn't even done; same PCB as the E3 demo units, says "CAT-DEV-V10001" on the back of the case; that thing should be where the 01net specs came from
  • V2: No idea when it shipped or what's inside, but that kit had modular wireless adapters (daughter boards)
  • V3: Unreleased(?)
  • V4: Released late last year(?); still no idea what's inside, still modular, uses different wireless daughter boards
  • V4.2: Released early 2012(?); probably mostly the same as V4, but no longer modular - the wireless adapters are soldered in
  • V5: Unconfirmed and unreleased(?); new codename and slightly faster than the previous kits according to lherre and other sources - final silicon?

Wait, what? Beiber fans stole My Body is Ready and they claim it's their meme?

They are soiling this great meme!

EDIT: Whoah woah woah, what new codename?

I think they will have one more revision

I have no idea where from or how wsippel gets his stuff, but any curiosity I have about it is outweighed by the fear that it will all disappear into a puff of smoke if I dare ask.

Most of it comes from the companies working on it, while some comes from devs that have posted in here.

Maybe yes, maybe no.
For now we have a handful 3DS games cancelled (Bomberman included).

Unless it's minor, I can't see why they would.

Stuff should be locked in by now. "Slightly more RAM" might be the best case scenario.

Actually I think the whole thing with allowing the WiiU to use two or more tablet controllers might have thrown Nintendo off schedule. I mean, is there confirmation that any of the new dev kits allow for more than one controller to connect with it?

Woah! bg, I was just attempting to steer the speculation in a more realistic direction. Retro has some seriously gifted artists, programmers, engineers, & esp. the recently infused talent. Some of those titles would have been a complete waste of it. It doesn't necessarily have to be a fps either, when I said broader demographic I was referring to the internal Nintendo studios' scope. Outside of Monolith Soft, no other development house is currently capable of reaching this audience. (sans EAD's Software Group No.3) I made the mistake of mentioning the 360/PS3 hardcore enthusiast, so Gaf assumed shooter. Retro has earned some creative freedom, & FWIW work has already begun internally some time ago on both the Wii U & 3DS Zeldas.

Now with the latter I believe he still means that Retro has no involvement with Zelda, but just wanted to mention that work had begun on new Zelda games.

Well, that's been known for a while.
Aunoma stated as much himself.

As for Retro earning creative freedom...
I still don't know if I expect a new IP from them, but it is getting interesting.

Thanks for the heads-up, bg. I've been saying that I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if we end-up seeing a short teaser for the next console Zelda game..

As for Retro.. new IP, current IP, old IP.. as long as it's action-adventure, I'll be ecstatic.

No, in the DRC (display remote controller) in possession of third-parties right now, there is no 3D (pictures in relief) feature. And no haptic screen for the few believers :D
Now, foreign studios weren't aware of some functions of the Wii-mote until rather late in development, but it wasn't as significant as the previously mentioned ones, so i doubt it will be the case again (for big kept-in-secret things on the tablet).

Aw bum, I kind of had my heart set on haptic goodness lol. Oh well, I'm sure that Nintendo have got something up their sleeves. Just having a bog standard touchscreen on a controller isn't anywhere near innovative enough imo. There has to be more than NFC to it, surely..?!?!?!? :o(

Damn. I was one of those hoping for haptic. What a bummer.

No more Metroid Prime. I think it should be third person(since U-mote is the default controller), focus on evens after Fusion, and bring her back to her more agile nature. Give her some new powers, may go into more chozo related levels again, and really open up a new chapter in the series. Give innovative uses of the screen and provide some sort of streaming capabilities such as beautifully animated logs, character bios, history, etc.

Do not go back to Metroid Prime. Leave it alone and go in a different direction.

Serious question guys, why are you guys so willing to believe Ideaman? What has he or she done to prove that he has any kind of insider info?

That's the way I read it too. :) I expect 'work' to mean 3DS is at least in alpha (revealed at e3 this year) and Wii U to be in early planning/design/engine dev stages. Maybe we'll get a piece of artwork that everyone and their mother will speculate about from the Wii U version at this year's show? -___-

Well, lhhere semi verified him, and add to that the fact that he hasn't really said anything that is outrageous.

Yeah, that is why i question why you believe him. Any one person could make up stuff that isn't outrageous and string you along in the process but not gonna deny that i read his posts as well. We just have been through this so many times with anonymous posters. The most reliable source has continually been 01.net.

Why not?
Regardless of if he's legit or not, he brings up good discussion points for a speculation thread.

There's only one real reason to do this, and that's the long con; establish the perception of credibility through a history of plausible accuracy and then use that trust to convince people of something implausible, something that they would not otherwise believe.

So, Ideaman, let's hear it: tell us about the holograms.

I would absolutely love this. It could use a bit of touching up but it's great as a 2D artstyle (foreground and background differentiation). I really like all the work this artist does.
