Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

He still looks great... ;)

they should do it in front of a lot of press, maybe at an event somewhere in a large city.

Had a thought. How bizarro-nuts would it be if Nintendo just suddenly started listing specs on their official twitter feed, one at a time on the hour?

That said I wouldn't mind if he and his team took a break.

He did indeed. Fairly recently I think.

Got off my butt and looked it up:

Aonuma hasn’t beaten the original Zelda, latched on to the series with A Link to the Past
September 7th, 2011 Posted in General Nintendo, News, Posted by Valay
This information comes from Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma…

“I’ve never actually finished it. I almost feel like there’s still no game more difficult than it. Every time I try to play it I end up getting ‘Game Over’ a few too many times and giving up partway through. Certainly after playing the original Zelda for the first time, I didn’t ever think that I wanted to make a game like that.”

:/

Unless I'm looking in the wrong spot, I don't see it any reflection on top. I saw them on what seems to be the side.

The part above the wing and above the swaying sapling?

Anyways, that effect is probably an animated light/shadow texture and not actual reflections of the water and wet rocks.

I couldn't help myself and I already started on the redesign pic. It's not done, but I will say it's a heck of a lot sleeker.

Hopefully the controller does go through some significant changes.

Right. That's not the top of it's tail. It's tough to see clearly because of the wing and because it doesn't show the bird landing on the rock. There was another one I was going to make a gif from. I'll go ahead with it.

I was wondering...who made this tech demo? I don't recall Nintendo ever saying who created it.

There was talk that Epic did it, and I wouldn't be surprised, but, I have no way of confirming that. Nobody really knows for certain.

Epic's Mark Rein said something like "like fish on water" but that was regarding Wii U in general, not the bird demo, IIRC.

Rein never really said that. We all hallucinated that; it never really happened. :P

What about AMD themselves? Don't these guys do these types of demos in order to test features out?

That would be interesting if Nintendo did ask Epic to do a tech demo for them.

Do they? I don't recall AMD ever doing a tech demo for the Gamecube or the Wii, so it would be interesting to know why they would let them create a tech demo now.

No matter how many times I've seen that demo, I just can't get over how cool it looks. The only other demo to really get me in the same way were the PS2/Dreamcast head demos. I must have watched those demos many, many times. Looks like I'm watching this one again. :D

I've always seen this demo from a small screen until tonight. It really is quite lovely.

It would make the "fish meet water" quote more appropriate.

and iirc he said that when he was asked about UE running on Wii U...
all the pieces are falling into place? :P

So what is the short and long term future for our enclave here? Going to be a general Wii U thread after the hellfire that E3 will bring?

Here's hoping that Retro's game is a new ip and not some generic FPS.

I'm guessing it will probably be an FPS, but hopefully not generic.

The time is right to launch a new shooter franchise- console FPS genre kings tend to establish themselves fairly early in a new generation, and while many series have remained relevant and major market forces, none so far have held the #1 position from one hardware cycle to the next. Goldeneye/Perfect Dark gave way to Halo which gave way to Call of Duty.

If this is where Nintendo and Retro are going, The main hope is that they understand that they need to innovate and not simply deliver a CoD clone. This shouldn't be an issue for Nintendo, but it is something to keep in mind. Another thing that has my interest piqued about the idea of a Retro-developed FPS is Nintendo's devotion to local multiplayer. While online is important, and an area where Nintendo has been lacking, many other HD franchises have chased online multiplayer to the expense of local. If they can deliver a balanced approach, that could be something special.

Overall, Nintendo proved their console is graphically capable of meeting or exceeding current gen HD consoles at E3 2011, no matter how akward and confusing the presentation was.

I think at E3 2012 they'll blow us all away with the games.

I'm guessing that it'd last until at least Launch, so that the forum isn't clogged with countless rumor/speculation threads.

I just hope everyone keeps their wits about them during the festivities.. I peek over in other Wii U threads, and they mainly seem to be trial threads where one side is trying to goad the other into saying banworthy thngs. Don't fall for it, folks.

This has been my Public Service Announcement for April Fools' Day, Part Drei.

Pretty much this. Nintendo's i.ps are second to none. Mario,
Donkey Kong, Zelda, Pikmin, Starfox...absolutely killer property
and they will turn heads on WiiU IMO.

Aye. Wonder if there will be new juniors just in time. Reggie help their souls.

And with that, bedtime. That was a heck of a day.
