Wii U Speculation Thread The Third: Casting Dreams in The Castle of Miyamoto

It has more to do with the slow rate of content for MMOs.
When you have to wait months for anything new to do, it becomes a grind.
And even when new stuff does come out, its usually not substantial content.
Even on F2P MMOs it's a problem.

I don't believe for a second that the controller interface is the only reason we have hardly seen any MMOs on consoles this gen.

You actually see people playing these type of games in the living room hogging the main TV?
Only the WiiU controller solves this problem.

There really should be no reason for the new Nintendo console to be behind 7 year old tech in ANY respect, unless they really really cut a lot of corners

I could imagine the CPU's clock rate to be lower than PS360 (which really doesn't say anything about power though).

Was this posted? Supposed Nov. 18 Wii U launch date in the states...

Yeah it's pretty thin stuff but that's what this thread is all about at this stage.

Edit: Cant imagine Japan being even one week later than USA...them again with Nintendo's consoles sales in Japan the last few years, I guess it shouldn't seem implausible (I remember Japan actually being the Gamecube's worst market of the big 3).

Anyways, pick a day in Nov imo. I could see September in Japan, though probably Nov there too.

I can see that. Gives them plenty of time to temper any knee jerk reactions.

I firmly believe New Super Mario Bros. Mii will be a launch title. If Nintendo learned from the mistakes of the 3DS launch, and they want a strong start with Wii U, they might as well put a system seller at launch.

I'm starting to think NSMB 3/Mii will be a 3DS/WiiU multiplatform game. Like Lego City Stories.

My concern is that they won't.

Historically, Nintendo has been god-awful at combating negative press at best, and just plain oblivious to it at worst. Nintendo 64 only for kiddie games? No comment. Nintendo Gamecube only for kiddie games AND weaker than the PS2? No comment.

Heck, they were awful about it with the Wii too, but the Wii became a sales behemoth in its own right so they really didn't have to worry about negative press...except for when it came to software support and the burgeoning idea that the Wii was not for hardcore gamers. They sure let that one fester.

Any bad reputation points the Wii U has earned with the very audience it's built to attract at will probably stick at this point, if history serves as any sort of barometer, because Nintendo is very unlikely to do anything to change anybody's perceptions outside of what's been their plan all along.

At this point, nothing about Nintendo's silence is keeping me hyped. The hype is draining out of every pore of my body. They're just being too quiet at this point. Like a child who's done something wrong and they stay silent and invisible because they feel if they talk, it'll remind their parents of the wrong thing they did and they'll be punished for it. I used to feel the silence was their attempt to shore up the awesome for one big blowout. The silence has become foreboding.

Ugly textures, less shaders, raw models, bad animations and low polycounts; come on, you cannot call this next gen...
and it's not even real time :D

You forgot bad lighting.

Needs more reallys.

In the end when it comes to the hardware and the games, there are only two things that truly matter IMO.

- 1st party games and other exclusives that are able to push the hardware because they are focused only on that system.

- Being able to get ports from PS4 and Xbox 3 increasing Wii U's longevity.

With the second it's not even necessary for Nintendo to go head up IMO. People that weren't going to buy a Wii U won't change that just because Nintendo release a $399 console that being sold at a $100+ loss. On the flip side there are people that really do only want to invest in one console and as long as Wii U has competent enough hardware to make future ports happen, they will be more than content.

I don't see why not, people dedicate a lot of time to playing online games like CoD and Halo, wherever their TV is. I'd argue that if that really is the main factor, Vita and even 3DS are much more suitable machines for MMOs.

The world is not the US. All customs are not Western.

I know was posted before, and just posted, but since hit the newspaper

You think Nintendo would publicly have to speak up about this sooner or later or just no comment, we haven't confirmed a release date?

They already said "we don't comment on rumors or speculation," although a leak technically falls outside of those categories. But if their hand is forced to where they have to say something more, that'd be a welcome development.

They're running too late if this is true imo. I'm half expecting the nextbox or PS4 to get a shock announcement of Q2/Q3 2013 launch... if Nintendo only get this out in Q4 2012, and Europe possibly later... that's just too late.

And once E3 hits all that hype and more will return. This is what they do, especially lately. They don't need to tease a lot of stiff especially if they deliver a good presentation.
And again they don't need to worry about bad press, and they shouldn't need to. Its written by people that are eqiuvalent to fanboys.

Eh, as much as it sucks for us enthusiasts, it's not going to make a big difference if they wait until E3 to speak. If they have a good show, people will immediately forget about the news drought. If their show sucks, well it sucks and talking about a sucky lineup in advance wouldn't have made it better.

What makes that release info very iffy is that it's from the same people who gave us 768MB of eDRAM.

Yeah, I also have a hard time believing Nintendo will launch their console almost 3 weeks after games like AC3 come out (heck evn games like CoD might be out before the 18th) when they could just as easily pull off a launch earlier then that. I have always assumed that Nintendo would want to launch the Wii U before Novemeber so that their first-party exclusives don't cannibalize third-party game sales, my one concern has always been that Nintendo would launch in Novemeber and there would be way to many games at launch and they would suffocate each other.

people thought this thread was bad at times when a single piece of negative news comes out? Imagine what would happen if Nintendo has a bad E3. RIP this thread and everyone in it.

Has there been any word yet of the Mii's going through an upgrade?

For an HD system, Mii's facial details are a bit lacking. I hope they do get more options and customization next gen.

Eh.. I wouldn't blow-up, but I'd be grumpy for a bit and then move on. That's all.

Now, what happens if Nintendo has a good E3? I suspect some Nintendo fans will gloooooat for quite some time.

I actually see this entire forum getting worse and worse as we approach E3. The next gen anticipation is driving people to let all their stupid dribble out freely from the corners of their mouths. I want it all to end and for next gen games to get here just so we can let all that shit go and just talk about the games we're playing.

They might get a little bit of an upgrade, similar to the 3DS Mii Maker, but I think the simplicity is part of the charm of the Miis.

Seriously, I can't wait until we get confirmed details on all consoles, then as you said all the anticipation/chatter will be about the games.

Man, going away for a few days and leaving my laptop at home has given me a fresh perspective as to how absolutely insane this all is. So, what's the explanation now to these devs who are saying it's less powerful than the current systems, with less shaders? Sony paid em? Or we really all have just been lying to ourselves and each other in this thread?

As we said in a previous feature, our 'insiders' say Wii U is marginally more powerful than PS3/360. Someone's insider is wrong!

3rd option, they don't know what they're talking about.
