Will radiation be a problem with PSP?

I haven't seen anybody talk about this. I think it's probably nothing to worry about, but better safe than sorry, right?

Since the PSP has a laser drive, will it produce enough radiation to pose a health hazard over long periods of play? I know portable CD players have been around for years, but they are usually never held the entire time they're running. With the PSP you'll be holding it the entire time the system is turned on. I don't know very much about laser radiation, so what do you knowledgable people think about this?

:lol There's no chance.

People often have too much paranoia concerning radiation. I remember in one of my science classes, we learned that despite urban myths and popular opinions, you could safely stand in front of an operating microwave for hours upon end and never experience any discernable ill effects because of it (barring you're a pregnant woman, of course).

Thank you!

I was deadset on getting a PSP, then this question popped in my mind and I was like, "... well, maybe not."

A laser is LIGHT. If you can't see the laser...the laser can't see you.

And every electronic device emits electromagnetic radiation. So you should worry about those waves to. And sugar. Sugar is the devil.

human5892, you're not talking about an open microwave I hope? I've played Maniac Mansion! I know the dangers!

Also about lasers... the likes of this thing, its most likely a class 1 laser product. Absolutely harmless. Some class 1 laser products have higher class lasers inside them, but enough safeguards to qualify the product as overall class 1. Opening it could give you access to higher class lasers... but then, you weren't planning on prying open your PSP were you?

As for any microwave carrier signals, and/or the radio freq. raditiation these things might be emitting, it's probably next to nothing. Even with wifi on. Be more worried about the phones you put right next to your face/brain.

Haha, no, I think an open one might cause you a bit of trouble.

It's funny, though -- my mom continues to insist that you can't stand in front of a closed microwave and watch your food, no matter how many times I try to explain to her that yes, actually, you can.

Actually, lasers, microwaves, cell phone signals, etc, are non-ionizing radiation. They cause no cellular damage in the form we use them. Yes, you can in theory heat yourself up and cook yourself with enough microwaves, but they won't ever cause cancer.
