Will Smith slaps Chris Rock at the Oscars

All of Hollywood's hypocritical virtue signaling laid bare by a single slap as the braindead audience keeps clapping to the offender getting his award. Violence is okay so long as it is committed by the rich and famous, but god forbid a lowly pleb dares to formulate a mean tweet.

No matter how you look at it, that slap is an expression of Hollywood's sick and broken mentality:
  1. If staged, it would only demonstrate how low these popularity seekers are willing to go in order to stay relevant. Making headlines at all costs taking precedent over artistic merit.
  2. If real, it would yet be another indication of how mentally shattered these people really are. No matter how hard you're trying to sell the illusion, money just can't buy happiness.
Just look at Smith's family, it is a disgusting mess. And this is the lifestyle that people are striving for? These are the people that seek to educate others and that we should cheer for? All I see are broken puppets entangled in the poisonous strings of their own narcissistic careers.
All the wealth in the world, yet such little wisdom to go around.
Even though this reads as a bit of a rant, you do make a lot of good points. The Smiths have always seemed a bit phony, and I don't trust the lot of them.

Also this thread is a good separator of who still likes humor/comedy, and who's a humorless little fragile bitch. Please come to my city; if your immediate reaction is to slap the first person that makes a joke at your expense, let me know how that works out -- if you live to tell the tale, that is. You never know who's packing heat around these parts. And even taking guns out of the equation, there are some real bad motherfuckers around these parts. I'm a decent fighter myself and even I know who not to mess with.

No, most normal people will say Will Smith acted like a little bitch.

It's the SJW cancel culture that would celebrate violence against ANYTHING that could be taken as even a bit offensive.
Eh?, its SJW's that will be, and are, trying to cancel Will all over Twitter.

Was just talking to my friend about this, and we both agreed, Will lose some points last night. Chris Rock did a good job keeping the show moving, when his reaction could've been so much different. Chris could've proceeded to roast his ass the rest of the night, absolutely demolishing him with the treasure trove of personal info that Will himself put into the public domain. But he kept it moving pretty quickly, despite what must have been a head swirling with anger and confusion.

What Will did was paint a large bullseye on his wife's alopecia as a weak point. It's like blood to piranhas.

Looked pretty staged. It’s not even that bad of a joke.

Anyone that has been seriously slapped like that wouldn’t react so easily.

I mean look at the way Chris is standing, legs apart, head forward, almost like he was getting set for being hit hmmm.
If it was staged, why would Will Smith be laughing at the joke to begin with? Wouldn't he just death stare Chris Rock? I know Will Smith is an actor, but I don't see anyone laughing at that joke, going up and slapping the host, then crying during a ridiculous acceptance speech about all of it, just to perpetuate a staged event. That would be the dumbest thing in the history of ever, and their desire for ratings would take an incredible backseat to the respect everyone would lose for Hollywood (such as it is) as a result.

'No such thing as bad press'.
No one can say for certain if it was staged or not, but its very conveniant thing to happen after all the recent talk about viewership plummeting and no one caring about the Oscars anymore.

I’ve found the slapping more convincing than the speech and the crying!

Some people getting slapped or hit on the face will have no reaction it is the brain processing what just happened.

Its a difference between YOU getting made fun of and someone you love being made fun of.

Also, this ain't a roast session.

They're at the Oscars where the hosts ALWAYS take the piss out of the audience, especially those in the front rows, are you fucking kidding me?!

Staged, every time actors/singers need attention for a show this happens...like the Superbowl show of Janet Jackson and JT.

Those people premise is : no matter if they talk good or bad about me...the important is that people talk.

I'm sure he was confused as hell and figured an air slap was coming or something. I doubt he really expected Smith to act like a complete dumbass on national television over such a minor joke.
I think people are projecting a lot of their insecurities on this thing :3

Wasn't staged. Thin skinned reaction to a fair lame joke. Like, I know they got beef but so many ways to react to that kind of shit.

Oscars are well on its way toward oblivion, this is just one more step towards that.

This isn't staged, neither Chris Rock nor Will Smith is that good of an actor.

The way he shouts after taking his seat is authentic 'I'm about to have a full blown tantrum and/or burst into tears like a child'.

The fact that people are debating real or staged just makes this entanglement that much more successful. Real or staged, it's a publicity win for everyone involved.

How does Chris Rock need attention? Who needed attention here? Jada and Will, who have had their relationship blasted through every aspect of media?

The guy who literally won Best Actor on the same night isn't a good enough actor to pull off a convincing punch and emotional tantrum?

Well said. While he is financially successful, I would consider Will Smith to be a failure of a person.

Not only his wife cheats on him, but his kids are nothing short of a travesty.

Will Smith is an A-list actor who everyone knows, even more when his Oscar prospects were raised from "King Richard."

Chris Rock is a legendary stand up comedian who can sell out any venue he wants.

I don't think the "it's fake, they're just looking for attention!" theory holds.

EDIT: do people not remember Tom Hanks's reaction to Ricky Gervais? Shit became a meme. These celebrities DO have fragile as fuck egos/emotions.

The only right thing would be to take Wills Oscar away from him and never employ him again.
Guys a fucking bomb waiting to go off. He can take someone fucking his wife but a C-tier driveby-joke and he explodes?

Fuck that guy!

And no way in hell this is staged, for a few second you saw the real Will and he is a class A cunt!

edit: Will just fucked over the entire comedyworld by setting an example on "hey, its ok to hit people on stage because the evil words hurt my feelings".

Again, fuck him!

Will Smith was already nominated for an Oscar that night. And won. Why would he need to stage this kind of performance for the Oscar's? Someone tell me why, because I'd really love to know. Money?
The show, The Oscars
You said that every time singers/actors need attention. Rock and Smith aren't the Oscar's. So why would they do it?

What's dumb is the people who think this was faked. As if Will Smith and Chris Rock are going to risk their reputations so the Oscars might get more viewers next year. Such a dumb conspiracy.
Yep. easiest way to expose yourself as a true moron/conspiracy theorist. The staged theory would fall apart under the shortest inspection. These people just lack basic critical thinking skills.

People really trying to make this a conspiracy.

This happens in bars and clubs every night in every state in every part of the world.

We just aren't conditioned to expect this at awards shows

That is perhaps the most damaging thing about all of this. Staged or not it sets a precedent and promotes the idea that you can strike someone if they say something that upsets you and puts stand up comedians directly in the front line for being attacked on those grounds by copycats and those who see this as a justified response.

2nd most damaging would be Will correlating it to love and justifying it as a product of the love he holds for his family. So, yeah, great job normalizing the justification most domestic abusers tout when challenged on their behaviour.

I don’t think there was any precedent set. These were two celebrities that likely know each other pretty well at an award show together. That’s a lot different than being a professional comedian and having fans pay money to come see you live. They’re there because they love you and want to see you. And in the rare instance that someone wants to charge the stage and take a swing because a comedian made a fat joke… it’s going to be some unhinged blue hair pussy anyway, and they wouldn’t be much trouble to deal with. Hell, someone from the audience would likely grab them before they even got in stage.

I used to know a comic who performed and once had a guy charge the stage after him and right before he got to the stage, an audience member decked him and knocked him out cold and the crowd cheered.

Will lost some points. Its not okay to hit a comedian. Talk to the guy after if it bothered you that bad.

This ain't staged because Will was laughing and only acted after seeing Jada pissed. You can say she indirectly provoked him to respond with violence because she couldn't handle the joke, even though GI Jane is a character about female empowerment. Then he had to make a cringe speech about "defending your family".

I'm sure she's defending your family when she was taking dicks behind your back, Will.

It's the left's self fulfilling prophecy. Jokes are literal violence!

What Will did was paint a large bullseye on his wife's alopecia as a weak point. It's like blood to piranhas.
Very doubtful. Jada's probably slept with all the influencers in Wokewood. She'll come out as the victim.

Edit: The Academy got what they wanted from this shenanigan. It got everybody talking about the dumpster fire of an award show.

I'm pretty sure it was a punch and not a slap.

Hopefully Chris Rock and Will Smith can work this out. Seems like an honest mistake. I looked it up and it seems like Jade Smith only talked about her auto-immune disease in December last year? Only 3 months ago so I doubt Rock even knew about it.

Joke is still funny but maybe a tad sensitive considering what Jada is going through.

What's with the tough guys in here talking about Smith being cucked? So weird. Like I said, the joke is funny, Smith thought it was funny, he just didn't put 2 and 2 together and think about the auto-immune disease. He was probably half upset at himself for laughing at the joke.

It's an autoimmune disease, but often self-inflicted. Happens to balarina dancers since they pull their hair back so tightly for such a long period of time that the stress causes the hair follicles to fail, and causes baldness.

It's not life threatening or anything.

Jokes still funny.
