Will Smith slaps Chris Rock at the Oscars

Chris Rock is a comedian.. its his job to tell jokes. Yes, it isn't polite to joke about someone's medical condition... but did Rock even know Jada Pinkett Smith had one? I didn't know.. and even if he did, it's ok because he is a comedian and its his job to tell jokes.
This has been repeated numerous times but just because you have the access to make a mockery out of someone doesnt give you the immunity over how someone will react/respond to your joke

Cos case like this has happened to me in the past ( im getting hit by a man when i made a joke on someone)

She has a 3rd degree burn all around her faces, necks, shoulder and back

I was making joke on her id and say " Hey considering how she looks before you can call this an improvement, could be perfect tinder date for deadpool "

The men listening next to me doesnt take lightly to what i said

Bunch of lunatics. Gervais' jokes were so much more aggravating...
I wonder if Will would have done the same to Gervais...Maybe...Probably not, because Gervais would have sued his ass, or at least made him the butt of all his material till his death -I do not like Gervais to begin with either...-.
One thing is certain, however, Hancuck would have sat and mumbled at best had the Oscars been presented by the Rock, instead of small Rock. Just hand the ex-wrestler comedians' monologues from now on...

Big difference in context.

I'm actually surprised you cant tell the difference between rich people ribbing each other over balding and a burn victim joke.

Oscar night is a comedian doing their usual mini-roasts of celebs so all the normal slobs at home could laugh at their rich and famous expense trying to make it look like they are one and the same (which they aren't). I totally get it that woman care more about their looks and long hair is a typical staple of beauty, but let's not pretend balding is like terminal cancer here.

Your situation is a a giant difference between someone who gone bald vs. a burn victim. Not only are you not a comedian doing warm up jokes on stage, so putting two people like this in the same boat is like saying a fat joke to a normal abled guy like me at 230 lbs is the same as doing a fat joke to a 600 lb guy on Discovery Channel whose got a 100 lb tumour in his stomach and is bedridden with sores.

Whatever

Unless the joke is premeditated or consulted with your subject im not going to risk making another banter which could risk unwanted clash / hostile situation

Have a nice day

If you cant tell the difference between celebs at an awards show cracking jokes at each others expense vs. your real life burn victim joke to someone who has serious burns, you got zero sense of what's funny and what's not.

So you should be the last person giving advice on what should and shouldnt be done when it comes to comedy.

Eventually its still all falls down to the same category

Unpremeditated jokes using one of those 3 dangerous joke points on your subject like i mentioned before ( using ilnesess, body defects/dysmorphic as the center of you jokes )

Flashless at the Golden Globes
Seems we found a cuck even bigger than Will Smith. No wonder he felt comfortable to clock him.
He’s just taking the high road here. I wouldn’t have apologized but this doesn’t make him a cuck.

Again, he can’t defend his joke without risking the fact that he knew about her medical condition and the moment he does that everyone turns on him. He’s likely doing this to close the book on this mess and move on with some dignity.

The era statement that this is a nothimgburger couldn’t be farther than the truth. This has changed everything.

Toxic masculinity- now every woman or at least every teenage girl will expect her guy to clock someone after getting insulted. I’ve seen drunk girls pick fights with men and egg on their boyfriends to fight them. Most don’t but now they might feel pressured to.

Death of Stand up comedy- heckling is out. Now comedians have to straight up worry about getting assaulted after making jokes. The brave ones will still do it but this was the death of comedy in our so-called civilized society. Comedy will never e the same.

Oscars so unsafe- why in the world would any comedian show up at the awards after the whole Kevin Hart fiasco and now this. The academy protected their actor and threw the comedian under the bus. No one should go to another Oscar again in solidarity with chris Rock. I refuse to believe there was no security there and even if they couldn’t prevent it they should’ve escorted him out. Why would anyone agree to present after this?

Things have changed forever. Black men and boys especially who looked up to will Smith as a role model will now see all these women defend him and think this is appropriate behavior. Except that if they make the mistake of hitting a white guy they are fucked. These are important ramifications of this event that need discussion and era thinks it’s a nothing burger. Insane.

I'll say this before I go to bed.

Y'all calling Will unhinged... Psychopath...

This is the ONLY time anyone has seen or heard of him acting out like this. In his acceptance speech, he said this which many have overlooked...

"Now I know, to do what we do, you've got to be able to take abuse. You got to be able to have people talk crazy about you.

In this business, you've got to be able to have people disrespecting you, and you've got to smile and you've got to pretend like that's OK."

They're still human and will make mistakes, just like the rest of us. Regardless of wealth or status. This includes, yes, Mel Gibson and many others.

Ok, night y'all.

The question I keep asking myself is this.

Why is violence never ok, but verbal abuse has no limits?

Chris Rock will heal from that slap quickly, Jada hiwever might feel that insult for far longer.

Nah, fuck that. Sometimes the only answer is violence.
Generally speaking, if you're fragile over it you verbally abuse/joke back. If you can't come up with something at least on par/worse, then you're rightfully the butt of a joke. Not ideal, but that's the way it is.

You never hit first, at least publicly and who's smaller than you, unless either your life is on the line, or you want to expose yourself as having the emotional control and maturity of a child. Which is what the almost totality of celebrities have.

Out of the thousand ways Smith could have handled the situation he chose one of the worst, made much worse by him laughing at first and his cringe reaction afterwards.

Liked what Denzel Washington said though.

'

Just in case you're sitting there thinking a slap can't do damage.

Damn at 4:48. That slap could kill someone.

Many “Whelps”! Handle It!

What....in the fuck? Christ, they've gotten even worse.

Anyways, the psychoanalyses from news outlets are beginning to drop. Here's one from the BBC:

While accepting his first-ever Oscar, for the role of Richard Williams in the film King Richard, later in the night, Smith tearfully apologised to the Academy for the altercation. Although he initially declined to extend that apology to Rock.

"I'm being called on in my life to love people and to protect people," Smith said. "Art imitates life."

He went on to dedicate the award to his mother and acknowledged that "a lot of this moment is really complicated for me".
That line stood out to radio host Lenard McKelvey, professionally known as Charlamagne tha God. On his popular radio show, The Breakfast Club, McKelvey said he thought Chris Rock's joke was only a small part of why Smith lashed out.

"I don't know what the 'why' is but for Will to react like that, there's something deeper going on inside him that we don't know about," he said.
Smith has been candid about growing up in a home plagued by domestic violence. The first chapter of his autobiography, Will, opens with a harrowing description of his father attacking his mother and the actor writes that the incident defined his childhood, and ultimately led to his career.

"Within everything that I have done since then... there's been a subtle string of apologies to my mother for my inaction that day," Smith writes. "No matter how successful I've become … there is that subtle and silent feeling always pulsating in the back of my mind: that I am a coward."

Maybe they're actually onto something? Does anyone care? I personally find it difficult to care about this tame altercation between three people who woke up the next day still pampered multimillionaires without real jobs.

Totally uncalled for and unnecessary…..this is an extremely bad look on Smith. As far as I’m concerned, assault charges should be filed against his privileged ass.

If Smith felt disrespect towards his wife and felt he truly couldn’t let it stand, he should’ve gotten up on stage and engaged Rock in playful and witty banter, demanding an apology be given while roasting him in front of all. That would have played to his strengths, and it’s not like Smith doesn’t have well-honed comedic chops to improvise and put Rock in his place without laying a finger on him. It would’ve been the classy thing to do.

Instead he smacks him, revealing himself an infant who cannot handle his emotions, sits there and screams profanities at him, setting a poor example to those who may admire him, and pissing off the Academy.

What a fucking asshat, and a mar on an evening meant to honor his work.

Yeah, that’s because most people’s mistakes don’t involve them slapping people on live tv in front of basically the entire industry you work with then going on to have a borderline nervous breakdown on stage.

I find it really strange that people are trying to play this down so hard. This isn’t even close to the realms of normal behaviour.

If I slapped everyone who cracked jokes about my step-son’s alopecia I’d be doing hard time right now. I think the Smith’s need to grow some thicker skin and accept there’ll be jokes made about them every now and then, and maybe not resort to physically assaulting people because of rather tame jokes. It’s the Oscar’s, don’t they make fun and joke about everyone there?

It's probably be said several times - but I wonder if Smith would be so quick to rush the stage if he was the one 2ft shorter and ~50 pounds lighter.

FFs, he made a joke about J.I. Jane sequel; the original movie had Demi Moore be a persistent and determined badass and the buzzcut contributed to that. Jada also looks amazing even with the shaved head.

Smith took it too far. Probably Jada too. Rock now apologized. Nobody protested at the ceremony for the obnoxious display and they proceeded to have him get an Oscar and let him talk about love making you do stupid things.

All these people deserve each other. All of them. I'm glad I've stopped watching the Oscars years ago. And I hope the world gets burned out with the memes, since we already got an overdose of those and they've started repeating.

Nonsense, as if other jobs doesn't get abuse.

"You got to be able to have people talk crazy about you." - That's cos you're crazy, you let other guys drill your wife and you can't take a joke and make humiliation out of yourself by showing you have 0 self control.

People get disrespected ALL THE TIME, not saying it's ok, but they have PROFESSIONALISM, that's why they don't lash out, just ask retailers and customer services.

Chris got hit and is able to take the high road, apologize and move on. No wonder Will's wife disrespect him, and now people will do the same to him.

He took it hard at first I think but wouldn’t act out emotionally about it. He would usually just make jokes about it back to people. He’s a grown man though, and can stand up for himself. Deep down I’m sure it hurt more than he would admit. He’s been getting shots and treatment for it and it’s thankfully coming back a lot more now.

Not only did the reeeeeetards write that wall of shite text, the cheeky cunts at the end 'go outside' No. why don't you there's obviously something not quite right with you for that wall of text.
Anytime someone tells you to "go outside" unironically you can safely ignore anything that came before it.
