Will the RE4 view be copied?

Will RE4's third person / semi first person view to the left be copied and used in other action games?

I think it works extremley well, and it feels more realistic than the usual 1st person view for some reason. I really like using the weapons in the RE4 view. The laser aim also adds to the whole feeling.

I am pretty sure RE5 (I guess it will come sooner or later) will use the same view. (and true widescreen since it's next generation)

RE4 copied it from Splinter Cell and Freedom Fighters :P

I just played SC a little on my PC 2 years ago, (never cared about the series) but isn't SC's view in the "middle" like normal 3rd person games?

It's already being 'copied' by Ubisoft's Cold Fear

I SWEAR I was gonna mention Splinter Cell lol. That is why when all the naysayers kept baggin the view and controls of RE4 I would always say how similiar it was to SC so if you got use to that game you will with RE4.

Splinter Cell controls just like an FPS when firing a gun, so it's not that similar.

Splinter Cell's controls hardly resembles RE4's, and the view is only really the same when you aim your weapon in Splinter Cell and Freedom Fighters (which actually isn't required to do in FF, but it makes aiming easier)

Splinter Cell not only did it long before RE4, but you could actually move around while you were aiming too!

Thats because in SC when you are aiming at something in front of you, Sam Fisher can see what is to his side (even though he is aiming straight ahead) because of the extra eyes, which are hiddedn in his ear lobes.

RE4 didn't invent it but it perfected it. Also the 16x9 in RE is clearly a shortcut to help with the graphics and framerate. Looks great on my 16x9 with the zoom though so I'm not complaining.

You know, I was just replaying Super Mario Sunshine today and I noticed that they used the view as well!

:lol

I hope other developers copy the emphasis on aesthetics, at the very least.

I don't like the FPS mode found in most games. RE4's view is just right for me.

It's never about who does it first. Who does it better is what counts. :)

SC is a bore-fest anyway. Zzzzzzzzz z zz
SC did it waaaaay WAAAY better. Although I don't think SC is even half the awesomeness RE4 is. RE4's view is not nearly as good as SC's though.

I kind of have an issue with RE4's view. Although I like the idea of using the Splinter Cell perspective, they kind of fudged it up a little. One problem is that the view by default looks up to high (just a little). It's not anything I can't live with, but it's a little bit of a bother. I would have loved the SC camera (which IMO is the best camera going bar none) in RE4. That would have been perfection. I would really like to have total control of RE4's camera (at least as an option). Being able to look one way and walk another is much much better than not.

Although I'm not really complainin, as RE4 fricken OWNS me and I love it to death. So fricken awesome is this masterpiece!

Yes, over the shoulder views have been done before. But not particularly well. Sometimes...But Resident Evil 4 perfects it. With the laser on the weapons and everything.

I was thinking about the same thing today, and some people complain about the camera system in MGS games...Maybe MGS4 could use the RE4 camera system? And not some generic over the shoulder garbage like Splinter Cell...I mean just like RE4's.

Dynamite Duke and Broken Helix did this a long time ago. Anyway, I don't think it's personally handled as well as Splinter Cell. The arbitrary shift to the side when aiming in RE4 is still ever-so slightly annoying, IMO...

Every day with the "who is gonna rip off RE4" stuff when RE4 wasn't even close to being the first to innovate or even effectively use what's being discussed. I think these threads are just clever ways for people to express how much they love RE4 while minimizing the chance of being banned. I understand the love, but what's next, people guessing as to who will rip off the whole "weapons" idea from RE4?

anyhow, as we can see... many many games have done this before. let this thread die now. RE4 didn't innovate anything. but it's a really great (awesome!) game. lets leave it at that and move on.

All I see is a see-through character....

I had a hard time finding a good picture. Hook up your n64 and play the game again, if you have it. If you don't, buy it. I'm not sure, but I think Conkers BFD had an over the shoulder aiming in multiplayer with certain guns.

There where/are many games in development/out now using that view. Before RE 4 even came out, or was even anounced :) I'd hardly call it Resident Evil 4's cameraview.

I don't see the Splinter Cell comparison. For the most part Splinter Cell is a regular 3. person action game. In RE4 the camera is locked behind the character that you're playing at all times (more or less). Even if other games have done it before (which this thread doesn't prove) RE4 may be the game to popularize this kind of camera view.

Winback DID IT FIRST !!!

RE4 team definitely played winback as they take a few ideas from it and put it into RE4. The thirdperson gun play, and the laserbeam triggered trip bombs are from Team Omega Force's cult classic.
