Will the result of the US elections force behaviors of video game publishers and pop culture in general (not an actual politics thread)?

Trump won cause a stick of butter is $10, entry level shitty cars are like $40,000, and an 800 sq ft starter patio home in podunk nowhere is like $300,000, had little to nothing to do with culture wars.

It stuns me how many people can't grasp this very simple concept. This stuff really isn't hard.

Yep and that era got every damn genre done really well like it had the best horror, the best slashers, the best sci-fis, the best actions, the best fantasy. Them filming movies with real sets also makes everything more immersive and nice. The 90s and 2000s weren't as good but still better than now since the woke lunatics haven't taken over yet during those times.
Oh yeah definitely man, in fact I was just watching Child's Play last Halloween. There were so many memorable characters like Freddy Kreuger and Jason as well. I've seen way too many 80s horror to count and I've enjoyed a lot of them, even the cheesy ones lol. The entire decade in general had a level of nostalgic charm to it, even the games too. They were just focused on telling great stories without being preachy.

Culture wars have got very little to do with why Trump won. The sharp increase of inflation over the past 4 years is probably why it happened. Let’s see how consumer pricing and inflation is handled over the next 4 years, as that will probably be the main factor in who wins the next election. Not some woke video games.

Don't know. Maybe. If it's anything's like here in Europe it's because my shopping bill has doubled along with my mortgage and random people are just turning up and getting to stay in a hotel.

As someone here said, they will double and triple down just like in 2016 after the Orange man won.

Anyways there are still a lot of good to great games out there from the Japanese and independent western devs. It's the triple A western ones that are really bad. Just avoid them.

We could have the opposite result, all the woke cunts are gonna be ever mode jaded because trump won and they are gonna inject even more crap in games.

Stop buying "bad" games for a few years and companies would get an attitude adjustment. They only understand the language of money after all.

A year and a half ago Trump announced very tough measures against any pushing of trans ideology onto kids if elected. If he follows through, there's always a possibility that games pushing trans ideology will be subjected to scrutiny since kids play games. I could see something like games that push trans ideology needing to have the "AO (Adults Only)" ESRB rating to protect children. And we all know that an AO rating severely limits a game's sales since most stores won't carry them. As such, publishers might force dev studios to not to put any pro-trans stuff in the games. This is all conjecture for now obviously but I definitely think it's not out of the realm of possibility.

The announcement in question:

Well... I would say that the intensity of the culture wars are indicative of underlying frustration with the economy. And the refusal of the current administration to actually address those issues in any meaningful way because they'd rather lose the election than lose their donor base. I think the culture wars had a real and significant impact, but they only did so because people were receptive to being riled up due to their economic insecurity. Culture wars have spilled over into real life quite palpably, I overhear these sorts of conversations at the diner at breakfast, I listen to coworkers talk at work. It's a thing.

I think it's got to a point just about everyone has had enough. At least enough to turn the tide in gaming, movies and elections the past year or two. It's snowballed one way, so now it's snowballing back.

The economic part is something that everyone gets affected, but many people can sustain it, or it doesn't even hurt them at all. So they might not really care. I'm not even a rich guy, but with a decent job and house etc... I didnt really care that mortgage rates increased 4% where my investment condo has a mortgage of over 6%. I can float it. And if I dont care, a guy making better money with a fully paid off house will care even less. In fact, they might even enjoy it as they lick their chops freeing up money to buy foreclosed homes for dirt cheap as a long term investment. So for those of you who think bad economic times hurts everyone, no it doesnt. When the Global Crisis happened in 2008, some coworkers and I were thinking about tossing in $25,000 each and buying a foreclosed home in Vegas or Arizona (places with lots of tourist spots people panicked and dumped homes) as a shared vacation home. So I was one of them back then scoping out mega deals on homes.

BUT, when then you add on non-financial issues (often DEI/Woke-ish topics), now you got hot topics that aggravates people on that front.

The more stupid things that happen just gives more options to piss people off where it gets to a point more people hate you than like you.

I hope people don’t forget that when Trump got into office in 2016, that wasn’t the “death of the SJW”. The Left became very angry and emboldened to be even louder with their politics. Remember how so many creatives back then talked about how the villain in their show/movie/game was representative of Trump? Get ready for more of that.

Activists will continue to use our favorite IPs as platforms to “fight Trump” and “own the chuds”, so ya’ll better buckle up.

The blue haired activists currently present in games development won't change, our only hope is that the people in charge will clamp down on them. It should be very, very clear by now that the general public rejects wokeism. Unfortunately since it takes so long to push a game out the door, games that started their development before this realization (for instance AC:Shadows, Fable) will probably still be tainted by woke elements.

Then they'll continue to lose a great deal of money. While the game companies that remember to sell products to the largest audience there is will prosper. Eventually the latter will far outweigh the former because business is survival of the fittest.

Well, let's just say the average American isn't very good with money. I think the figure I saw was over 50% of American households don't have enough savings to cover a $500 emergency. And when you look at it through that lens... maybe you yourself aren't financially insecure. But what happens if half of the people around you are? We see what happens in countries with huge wealth disparities... they start looking like 3rd world countries. A rising tide might lift all boats...but what about a sinking tide?

Totally.

Economics hurts many. And those people spoke out.

I'm just saying that when there's other hot topics that piss people off, it adds to it. That well off suburban family might not care about job security and price of cereal.
But, they will care about other topics. And wokeish stuff is no doubt going to be another topic. These are the people leading straightlaced lives hoping their kids go to good schools in quiet neighbourhoods.

Spinning it into a gaming way, parents Steve and Sally make good money so they might not care about $70 games, BUT they will care about woke-ish stuff content in it. And if the this part of the game sucks, they wont support and buy it even if they can afford it.

Didn’t the Democrats lost because they lost 14 million voters that stayed home playing Blops6? (Was GamePass a decisive key of the elections?) Anyways to the standards of the rest of the world the Democrats are a right wing party and therefore their lost shouldn’t be read as change in the winds of pop culture. The rise of far right in Europe (with elections with a lot of participation, not like in the USA) is more significant in terms of cultural change.

For sure, I believe a lot of people are tired of being lectured at by the wine moms and brunch crew. Which is really funny because I think that if they were actually making those points in good faith (i.e. trying to prop up progressive politics) they are doing way more harm than good. It's sad because I think the whole arc of that movement shows the dangers of not being thoughtful in the exercise of power. At the start of the metoo movement there was quite a lot of public support because people recognized that there had been longstanding issues - but the moment the activists got any modicum of power and attention they started abusing it to tear down other people, instead of continuing to work to diminish the abuse of power they instead tried to take it for themselves and wield it against whoever they wanted. They really lost the plot.

Not so much the economy, as this is doing very well in the USA.
But rather inflation, which hurst the mid and low classes a lot more.
Worst yet, is the housing market, that is now ruled by speculators and investment firms, leaving the average family not being able to buy their home.

I'll be damned if one day I see a game where instead of picking 2 genders, there's like 100 of them to choose from.....like oh lord do I have to sift through all of that to pick and design my character??
Your description sounds like bad UI design, like that one Xbox 360 OS update that had you infinitely scroll to the right to access everything.

The election has nothing to do with it. Sales are what matters. If games have a negative presence online and poor sales, future games will be adjusted. If not they wont.

Most people don't care about the culture wars shit, but that doesn't mean the negativity doesn't impact their buying behavior. I expect publishers to try to avoid that negativity where possible.

Can't they just do their job like any other person without "muh politics" 24/7?

Gaming is not Hollywood and some random game developer can't have the luxury of pretend being a secluded douchebag elitist who thinks his views on politics have to be preached to the plebs through his work in gaming, like some asshat Actor seeing himself as above anyone else

I think the general rejection of the progressive stuff in games and movies has been building momentum over the past few months. I don’t think the election result will have an effect on how things look going forward, but it should.

Music to my ears.
No. Left policies overwhelming make people and whole populations better off over the long term - workers protection, sick leave, hiring and firing. They do not make it possible for businesses to maximize revenue and shareholder gains.

If you are a shareholder, if your whole income is tied to stock market performance you don’t care about workers, communities, plants, etc. But it is important to understand these issues are what brought Trump to power once again, this is rural America hurting. At the end of the day if this is not addressed you will have French Revolution 2.0 - maybe in 10, maybe in 50 years, but do you want to bet the life of your successors on that?

As Obama said - “American dream is alive as long as people believe in it”. People overwhelmingly do not believe in it anymore. Their first choice is to elect Trump, if that fails they will move on to something more extreme.

Yes, this is a political post, sue me in France baby.

Maybe in the endgen or next gen ...for this gen all products that can be tainted by wokeness already are ... and since games take 4-6 years to make theres no going back for the majority of them.

Also the western specially US studios would have to get a big overhaul since they are dominated by woke culture .. its not something easy to do and take time.

In the end the only thing that matters is sales ... continue do vote with your wallets.. no matter the political side of things.

But having said that.. yes. The current political victory associated to the already growing cultural mainstream push bash of wokeness can bring a real change back to normality for all aspects of entertainment, even just more "balance to the force" would be welcomed at this point ...

CEOs care about shareholders way more than your opinion on ideology.

If CEOs care about making money, then they know they should reign in activists developers. Dragon Age: The Veilguard would sell better without all that non binary/transgender stuff.

Maybe, but I’d guess that the ESG money/funding will just move outside of the US in that case and we’ll end up with more lovely titles like Dustborn.

Their number crunchers would probably need physical data to make that connection.

The easier data they’re going to get much faster instead will be:

1)Single Player game potentially bad
2)Franchise itself potentially bad
3)RPGs potentially bad

I certainly hope so, the result has shown there's more people that care about policies than agendas so we hopefully just get companies concentrating on the games and not adding things that aren't really relevant to video games in general.

Fingers crossed anyway 🤞

This, unfortunately. EA's business analysts are some of the most asinine in the industry. They'll probably reach some tone deaf conclusions like these.
