Will you be buying ROG Xbox Ally?

Will you be buying

I picked up a Z1E ally for £285 a couple of months ago. The jump from Z1E to Z2E isn't very big.

So no I'm not spending £799 on it.

Save money. Get the console and play all the games on Xbox. Even get a series s. More powerful and gives you access to every Xbox console game.

Have to say the branding of this is fucking awful

1. ROG - apparently stands for "Republic of Gamers", weird enough in itself, but you'd have to look that up. Most people will assume ROG is short for Roger.

2. Xbox - well that brand is hardly popular these days

3 - Ally - Ally to me? Ally to ASUS? Ally to Roger? Who the fuck knows at this point.

Steam Deck LCD is currently £279 on sale, the 64gb refurb is available irregularly for £249.

I don't see anything performance wise on the market that justifies a 2x price jump.

I'm waiting for the Steak Deck 2 Oled.

I already have a Steam Deck OLED 1gb SSD model.
It covers 90% of my PC gaming needs, it's been sold below cost and it already have a massive community backing it up.

At this price, it's a hard pass. However, if this thing is heavily discounted, to say, in the €350,- range (and for the high end one), I'll bite. I picked up a brand new Series X from Amazon a year or so ago for around €350 as well. So, who knows.

I've already got a Series X so no.

And honestly, my PC is a potato but it can run all the visual novels I want to read off Steam, so no need for this.

In the UK the X is £799, which is less than I expected.

I don't think I'd use it if I got one, despite spending about 40 minutes on the train to and from work. But it being a bit cheaper than I expected made me pause.

I think for people like me who don't have a library of games on steam/pc already but have a library of Xbox games that can be played on it (I checked and without trying have 260 play anywhere titles and a Gamepass sub) it's not automatically the worst deal.

It'll be interesting to see how sentiment is from people who buy one and from those who can fairly compare it to other machines in a month or two.

I could imagine being swayed, but being sensible, I think I would struggle to justify it, I never even considered buying a handheld pc almost considered a steam deck but the library and Gamepass being properly supported does make a difference.

I expect knives will be out for this niche product because it's Xbox but, again, if you've got a bunch of games that will already run on it, I don't see why it is particularly deserving of it.

Yes.
I am currently debating with myself if I should get it close to launch or in spring next year. Given the recent price history of Xbox devices, it might be smarter to buy it early. Unfortunately I have other obligations for the rest of the year, so might have to wait and hope that the price doesn't go up.

Hard pass on anything Xbox from now on since they completely failed to deliver this gen. Zero interest in new hardware when the first party release schedule is such a threadbare mess.

No, for two reasons.

1 - I don't see any scenario where I would actually use a portable gaming device. If I am at home I will use my PC or, possibly, my PS5. If I am not at home I am working or driving, so no game time.

2 - I think playing on small devices just plain sucks. Switch, Steam Deck, this thing, just all suck imo. I have a 4090 in my PC and 65" 120hz QD OLED tv and a 32" 240hz QD OLED monitor. Not downgrading.

No, Xbox hardware is no longer required to play their games. So why would I?

I was a little excited at first, however I just stick with my Steam Deck for the time being.

No, more than happy with my Steam Deck OLED and there's pretty much nothing that I play or want to play on a handheld that I can't already.

If that doesn't tell Americans that this thing is being hammered by tariffs in the US market, nothing will.

At least some will still be in denial about it, I'm sure.

If it's electronics and it hasn't had a price rise, then expect one once existing supply is exhausted would be my guess.

Solid maybe. $1k is excessive but for a 5.5tflop handheld, I am actually kinda tempted (especially since I actually liked my old rog ally x1e)

No, recently got a steamdeck and very happy with it. If I get a new handheld it will probably be the one Sony is cooking up. I skipped on PlayStation this gen so might be the time to jump back in. But I don't really need anything else. GFN on steamdeck with a 5080 and it's a flawless experience.

As I wrote somewhere else:

1) For people who don't have a portable device, either of these offer barely any improvements compared to devices that have been on the market for 2+ years. You get an old ROG Ally or a Steam Deck and save a lot of money.

2) For people who are into handheld gaming and have already a Steam Deck or an Ally, this offers barely any improvements in performance.

3) The advantage this device is supposed to have is the Xbox Full-screen Experience, which is already available for ALL windows devices if you're willing to tinker with it a bit. And as far as I know, there are no advantages of using an Xbox Ally over any other windows handheld.

I was really looking forward to an upgrade to my OG Ally but this would not convince me at £599, let alone £799.

Poll needs a maybe option.

I need to see the usual suspects test it's power first and I need to see the compatibility chart with BC Xbox games.

Nope. I already own a laptop that can play most games at 1080p, xcloud works well on my smartphone, I have a series s and a ps5...

It will be sadly the first Xbox hardware I will not buy, bought all of those so far.

But those big-ass portable consoles are stuck in the middle imo, not portable enough for handheld use and not that good as desktop replacement.

Nope, but I'd love for other handhelds to adopt the grips. Looks so amazingly ergonomic to hold.

Might re-evaluate if/when it goes on sale down the line.

To the one(?) guy, who voted yes for buying the base Xbox Ally, why? There are multiple better AMD Z1E and Intel handhelds that sell at a lower price (Original Ally, legion go, go s, msi claw, etc).

Of course. It's going to be my killing time in bed before I sleep device. Now, where to find one!

I'm chocked, why isn't Xbox offering cartridges with the full game on carts for their handheld? We all know its just Nintendo that is trying to kill physical media, so naturally we should all expect PS/Xbox handhelds to offer full cartridge releases of all their games unlike physical hating Nintendo. /s.

Nope. The games I want to play portably run fine on my steam deck oled. Anything it can't run I play on ps5 or my desktop.
