I'm getting the 80240020 error as well - I'm just going to wait for a few hours and check back later. Hopefully by then the wave I'm part of will have rolled out.

Tried command line thing a million times. zzzzz

...I'm also just getting this still. The thing says my laptop is compatible. Oh well, we wait I guess...

Is there anywhere I need to check to make sure it is registering as a Genuine copy of Windows 10 Pro?

It should be but I just want to be sure.

I was looking forward to email notifications, so I set up the Mail app with my Gmail account. But I tried it out and I'm not getting notifications. Anyone know why?

Fucking hell, this is ridiculous.

Whenever I try to update through Windows Updates it just fails now I'm trying through the standalone installer and it's saying my Windows 8 key doesn't work.

Come on.

But isn't that a clean install disc, and it needs W10 key, which we won't have before upgrading?

Eh? So the only way is through Windows Updates? Which won't even work for some people. Brilliant.

Open the mail app, click the little cog icon to open settings and select options, select your mail account from the top drop down that you want notifications from and then set all the settings at the bottom for notifications if they aren't already on.

I will say, its a bit iffy at the moment and sometimes it just won't do it - it really needs a patch/update as its not as reliable as the 8.1 mail app.

I haven't tried it, but reading that page it gives me that impression. That's why I asked.

Windows 10 is excellent. I wouldn't have been mad if I bought this for $100.
IE edge is a surprisingly nice browser, but it needs extensions. It's very speedy.

I tried deleting the SoftwareDistribution/Download directory and running the wuauaclt.exe as per the reddit post, and Windows 10 downloaded fine, but now I'm stuck at this:

It's been there for the last 30 minutes. Is that normal? Or should I just say the heck with it and install from the media creation tool?

Well that's it for me, now opted out of the insider builds, removed the windows.old folder and the windows installation files via disk clean-up - now fully moved over to W10.

It took a long while here though (it's extracting/moving files).

I finished the setup process and am now running Windows 10.

Something that used to happen to me on Windows 8 is happening again to me now.

My mouse is detected, and it'll just stop working at random. It's still detected, but moving the move won't move the cursor, adn the only way to fix it is to unplug and replug.

Anyone else experience this?

Mine sat there with the bar below the 'w' for a while. Maybe not 30 minutes, but it was definitely a long pause.

This happened to me too. I just stopped the download and reset the laptop and start again

Yeah, I've tried all that and I'm just not getting notifications.

Bummer, as said though - its very iffy with them as in sometimes i get them and sometimes i don't - it really needs an update to make it more reliable.

With Windows 8.1 i had no issues with notifications on mails, with Windows 10 i get them sometimes and then i don't (like this morning I've had 5 emails and not one has pinged me with a notification).

Just you wait, you'll restart your PC at some point and you'll get a mass of notifications from mail in one go (i had this happen once).

Just updated (by right clicking the windows icon on the bottom right and checking for updates) and it's definitely what windows 8 should have been. But I wanted to use the mail app as its pretty slick. I put in my office 365 exchange work email. It shows up fine but in my work email I have my own inbox and an additional inbox. That additional inbox doesn't show when I go to check my folders. How can I get it to show? And yes it does show on the web app.

OK, I see what you mean. They just started working out of nowhere! It seems to pick up like half of the emails I send to myself.

That setup file just exited on its own, wut. Opened it again and now it's downloading W10 (at full speed, suckers). Wanna get off the RTM build as quick as possible and just use my 8.1 key

Any Surface Pro 3 users got impressions? I've had a few issues on my desktop with the preview RTM build so I'm a little antsy

Is there a way to merge windows accounts? My xbox is under one and my pc another. Because I'm an idiot. Am I boned for the cross pc/xboc stuff?

You can just log into a different Xbox account for the XBox app, I had to because my main Xbox account is Japanese

Anyone know if there's a way to get rid of the user password page?

Type "netplwiz" into Cortana, open the program and untick the user must enter a password box, enter your login pass twice and from now on it will skip the password screen.

I think this is what your after.

If you still want to keep a login screen but make it quicker to login instead of a password, you can setup a 4 digit pin code - open all settings, click accounts, click sign-in options and select to make a pin. The next time you start your PC it will still ask for a password, but if you click sign in options under the box you can select the pin code instead and from now it you can use that by default.

Upgraded using the forced update method. Everything works fine so far, but the install took forever. Time to back up the important files and do a clean re-install. :)

It took a long while here though (it's extracting/moving files).

I finished the setup process and am now running Windows 10.

Shortly after I posted it did move a good bit but then the update failed. :( I tried running setup.exe from the "BT" folder but it gave me the "missing boot.wim" error.

I've read that you can't do a clean install until you've already done an upgrade and generated a Win10 key

MS need to be a bit clearer with regards to this especially with those like me on a compressed OS (HP Stream 7) as when installing the preview version I had to always use the ISO as the windows update would always fail.

Also another minor gripe I have is that while their X-box integration is a blessing (you can share screenshots/video recordings on PC titles to X-box Live friends) it's also a curse (the keyboard shortcut is just... uh...? Windows + Alt + Print Screen for a screenshot versus Valve/Steam's F12 for a screenshot to be sent to Steam's folder)

I can't even figure out if the controller home button will allow that since I need to reinstall the 360 controller drivers and xinput wrapper for the Dual Shock 3 before seeing if that is a muuuuch easier way of going about it. But as it is, I dunno if I'll use that "Share" function when I'm already in the Steam environment. But I will give Microsoft props for actually having the foresight of trying to combine the console/PC gaming ecosystems together in that aspect.

But isn't that a clean install disc, and it needs W10 key, which we won't have before upgrading?

Doesn't need WIndows 10 key. It said I would need my windows 7 cd key but never asked for it.

Ok so once I install windows 8.1 do I need to register for the upgrade or something? Or can I just install the 10 iso straight away?

Or can I skip installing the 8.1 an put my 8.1 key straight into windows 10 installer?

I did it straight away. I thought I had to reserve the upgrade to do it today, but apparently I stumbled upon that page and went through with it. It said I would need my Windows 7 key but it never asked for anything. Just clicked on "Next" and I'm on Windows 10 now.

Anyone recommend some useful live tiles? Never got into them with windows 8 as I just booted to desktop but since they are right there now may as well check some out. Only have weather and news going atm.

My Windows Update history says the upgrade has failed to install. I have all the files in my Windows~BT folder. Is it recommended that I delete files in the the SoftwareDistribution/Download folder? Or is that just going to stuff it up more? Will leaving it alone mean I still get the update at a later time or is it borked?
