Windows 10 Troubleshooting Thread

I installed Win10 fine on another PC but after installation it's downloading something at full line speed. I thought it would be Windows updates but I go to see if it's them but there's no Windows update running. What the shit is downloading?

Maybe updates through the app store? I had 29 to download after upgrading and opening up the store.

Office 2013 doesn't seem to work at all. It doesn't show up under Program Files after being installed. It's not in the Start menu. Office 15 shows up in Program Files with no apps installed, and the "Get Office" app says "Your installation is up to date." But no programs exist. I've installed it twice now. That's pretty shitty.

whoops

Cortana cannot understand a single goddamn word I'm saying lol.

Is there some sort of adblock for Edge? I'm thinking about switching to it from firefox, as I actually sort of like it.

My laptop's upgrade from 8.1>10 went flawlessly. Doing my desktop now. Hopefully 7>10 isn't borked somehow.

Not sure I'll do anything with my two tablets, though.

Installed Win 10 on my Surface Pro 3. Now I have zero Internet and Bluetooth. No wifi adapter shows up in adapter settings, but the it does show up in Device Manger. Rebooted, hard rebooted, deleted drivers and scanned for changes, nada. I'm stuck, and I hope this problem isn't widespread because it's a bad one.

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit crashes (blue screen) whenever I attempt to connect my bluetooth headset. The interesting thing is, I'm using the same drivers for the Asus BT400 dongle that worked perfectly fine with the 10240 preview.

I've tried uninstalling/deleting drivers, but no luck yet. If anything, Windows 10 doesn't really delete the drivers but only disables them until I plug the dongle back in. Anyhow, if anyone's conquered a similar issue, and is willing to share, I'm all ears. Thanks! :-)

I have a new SSD I want to drop into my tower. I was planning to clean install 8.1 into it.

Would you guys recommend installing windows 8.1 on it and then upgrading. Or, can I upgrade to 10 on HDD and then do a clean of 10 with an ISO on the SSD. What's my serial key for windows 10 though?

As this moment in time, there is no such thing as a product key for Windows 10. In order to activate Windows 10, you need to upgrade from 7/8.1. If you still want to "clean install" Windows 10, upgrade from 7/8.1 to Windows 10, sign in to your Microsoft Account on your newly upgraded Windows 10, and then select the reset option in Windows 10, you will remain activated.

TL;DR: No such thing as Windows 10 product key anymore (unless you buy a retail Windows 10 key), upgrade from 7/8.1 and then reset.

alright so mine is that. Is that a good sign or a bad one? I'm guessing bad :(
Its fine as they are giving every upgrade generic keys.

My fully activated copy of win 10 pro has the key ending in 3V66T.

The only thing that matters is that Windows 10 recognises you upgraded from Windows 7 or 8, and records this on the activation server along with your hardware ID. If that is the case then you get permanent activation of windows 10 on that hardware.

Not a fan of Microsoft Edge. Felt like it was confusing and I couldn't find any app-button to install adblock and lastpass. Maybe I missed it but I went back to Firefox.

I did the upgrade but Win 10 doesn't like my network card (link is up but I can't ping my gateway) so I'll stay on Win 8.1 for a bit. Maybe a new driver will fix the issue in the future.

alright thanks for your help. I am just going to assume for my sanity that it's just the activation servers being shit on and it'll do it's think soon.

Got it done, but having a weird issue where 3rd party software works fine (Chrome, etc.) but I can't get the start menu to come up at all, file explorer won't open, none of my folders will open. It's like the windows applications don't work but the third party stuff does...

I just wanted to point out that they specifically mention that one of the reasons for upgrading people in waves was to make sure that their hardware had up to date and good drivers in place on the Windows 10 side. Keep seeing all these posts with issues in the thread and maybe this is part of it?

This, I noticed this earlier, and am still waiting (impatiently) for my install to activate, but I don't want to force it now after hearing the problems.

I upgraded and everything is mostly fine bar 1 issue. Every time I use my keyboards audio wheel to change the volume, my displays flicker like crazy. Anyone else have the same issue?

I have finished installing Windows 10 on my computer, but it can't find the Tablet Driver. Despite reinstalling the Tablet River for my Wacom Cintiq, along with trying this, but nothing is working.

Can anyone help me? I want to work on my portfolio, but I didn't think this would be an issue.

Cortana is pretty neat wont use it to much but still cool to have. So far I prefer this to win 8. Time will tell how good it is, just starting to scratch the surface. The U.I is nice and clean.

So if I choose to "keep nothing", is it going to format the whole Hard drive or just C?

Depends on which option you select. There is an option to nuke all the hard drives connected to your PC and then there is an option to nuke only the C drive. If you choose keep nothing, it will literally format the hard drive which you selected (all hard drives or just C) and then install Windows 10

I installed 10, got it activated fine and everything. Found it lacking so I rolled back to Win 7 and now I can't use the creation tool to get back onto 10 again. Downloads everything but doesn't start the setup because it errors out. What a clusterfuck

I was impressed with how it automatically installed drivers for all my laptop's hardware without a single thing failing! Sound works, network stuff works, BT works, touchpad works (although just with some generic driver), both my Intel graphics and my dedicated Geforce have drivers installed (including Nvidia settings, although no Geforce Experience of course), etc. Very smooth.

That's exactly what I did, except my W10 install refuses to activate.

Why would you roll back to Win 7 only to upgrade again? LOL! Either stay on 7 for the mean time or upgrade now and stay on 10. Servers getting hammered man!

Why do that anyway??

I did exactly as I stated in my earlier post (at 11 pm last night PST) and was successfully activated. I guess servers issues are preventing a successful activated. Just wait and maybe try upgrading in a week or 2?

Sorry couldn't be of much help :/

So should I wait to install Wins 10? Any annoying glitches or bugs that people are finding. Are there new updates that need to be installed once complete or are they coming out soon?
