That's a really terrible idea. Stuff like this needs to be opt in, not opt out, from a network perspective.
I know, and its on by default...
Not really, you have to explicitly tell it to share a network. It's not shared by default when you connect to it.
I had a laptop that shipped wih Windows 7. I then updated to Windows 8 buying a key from the BST thread here.
I want to upgrade to an SSD and Windows 10. Do I need to do anything special with keys etc or can I just whack a new drive in and install fresh on it (once an ISO is officially available)?

You share with your contacts, but not their contacts. The networks you share aren't shared with your contacts' contacts. If your contacts want to share one of your networks with their contacts, they'd need to know your actual password and type it in to share the network.
You have to do the upgrade through Windows 8.1 first, otherwise it won't activate.
Me too. Hopefully I will get mine laterI don't have that folder yet.![]()
Ok from what i understood i thought it was on by default.
Are you just typing C:\$Windows.~BT into the navigation bar? I'm not finding anything on mine there. It says it doesn't exist... (sadface)
So swap to the SSD, install win 8, update to 8.1, then upgrade to 10? (Or is there an 8.1 ISO now?)
No issues just fresh installing win 8/8.1 on a clean drive? Will the key be in the motherboard or something even though the original machine was win7?

I tried resetting my laptop, but now I can't even install updates so I can get Windows 8.1. Is there any way for a non insider to download Windows 10 and install it via a DVD?
I'm fucking tired of Windows 8, piece of garbage.
Also, if I upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 10 and then decide to get a new SSD/HDD down the line. How would I install Windows 10 on that without the ISO?
Use Clonezilla to clone your HDD and copy the image to your SSD.
Anyone elses folder dissappear?
Got the folder, sitting at 6GB.
Which folder, C:\$Windows.~BT ?
You get an error message. It's not going to install. So what happens when you click Install now when you run setup.exe? I kind of want to try but it's my work PC
Mine is downloading. The hidden folder is only 140MB in size and staying that way, but I can see a lot of network activity and downloading coming from c-0001.c-msedge.net, which is a Microsoft Azure datacentre.

Damn my impatience. Three computers here, all reserved Windows 10 within hours of first reports of the reserve program going live and none of them are downloading Windows 10 ie. no folder on any of them.
Any word on hours for release?
did you make hidden folders viewable?
