Windows 10 Troubleshooting Thread

Two more failed updates this morning, both with different error codes, now it has been stuck on the checking requirements part of Windows Update for over an hour. Hopeless.

That's the same error code I have, I've got 4 errors here but for W10 Home.

Again, same.

Hey, I just typed wuauclt.exe /updatenow in cmd and Windows Update is downloading Windows 10 now, if you want to try that. I didn't delete any files previously to it.

EDIT: Nevermind, it 'downloaded' and 'installed' but I still got the same error code.

How many of you having errors did a manual or forced install? Did any of you reserve the copy and only upgrade after prompted to do so? I'm wondering because perhaps the "we'll upgrade when it's ready" not popping up means MS knows there would be issues with upgrading to your particular system. Thus they won't give you the upgrade until the issues have been fixed?

But that's just a guess.

CPU is maxed out for me still. Safe mode it's operating normal, in normal it's maxed. Task Mgr is flashing so many programs (Windows to Nvidia to defender) eating up 30%+ CPU every second. Have no clue what's going on here.

Looks like I may have to run a clean install. :(

Everything seems to be working correctly (so far), except for Bluetooth stuff. Can't figure out why, but it's not letting me connect my wireless speaker to the computer (I know I have Bluetooth, because it worked fine on Windows 8.1).

That's what I'm wondering, and so I'm holding off doing the manual workaround just now.

Ensure your current Windows is fully updated and choose not to download updates during the Win 10 install did it for me.

Everything is updated, and it still doesn't work. I noticed my "Windows~BT" folder - which use to be 5gb - is now just 1 gb. Another folder is there too "Windows~WS" that's only 66kb.

Should I delete "SoftwareDistribution/Download" To get the 5gb back?

Installing via update tool on my HTPC. Will try using an ISO with my workstation as it can only benefit from a fresh install.

I clicked the little icon in the task bar (never recieved my confirmation email) and it said that my system was ready to be upgraded. I hit confirm and it is upgrading now.

Unfortunately I have to leave in about 10 mins (at 8% now). Hopefully it'll do everything by itself and I get back to a finished upgrade later today.

I hope everything goes as smoothly as up until now. Looking forward to trying 10 out this evening.

Installed Windows 10 and everything runs great.

I didn't know you could just download it off Microsoft's website. I honestly thought I had to wait for that little windows icon on my task bar. So glad I accidentally figured that out.

w e l p . installation seems to have hung. it's been at 'configuring settings' for about four hours, and the hdd isn't making noise any more.

any suggestions at all? :/

I just read a passing comment regarding how W10 handles location versus language. Bit worried now (I'm an english speaker in Sweden and my svensk is still pretty crappy).

I have an EN version of Windows but I'm concerned that W10 might 'helpfully' insist on displaying some aspects in Swedish. Is this a thing that the OS does or have I misunderstood that passing comment I saw?

posting from win10 on my macbook pro retina!

a little run-through - you're going to need to go back to OS X and download the bootcamp stuff to an external thumbstick and then run that setup AFTER you've installed Windows 10.

so my first issues persist from 7 to 8 to 8.1 to 10:

looks fine, right?

well shit.

This is more Autodesk's fault, though, since Maya is fine:

So is it out out yet?

I'm getting my last to pc parts in the mail today (cpu cooler and psu) and would like to got straight from fresh 8.1 install to windows 10 without any fuckery inbetween.

I'll hold off for a day or w/e if I need to.

Still having trouble with this:

No matter what I do, NVidia drivers will not detect my GTX 460. To add more salt to the wound, when I reinstalled the drivers, the displays for the 460 flashed for a second and then went right back to not working.

welp, i had to reset it, now it's 'restoring your previous version of windows', :/

hope i haven't fubared my windows partition!

Completely normal!
Hmm not so much, errored out. Back to checking the event log for why. Fun!

For reference:
I have run the windows update troubleshooter and it 'fixed' some issues. Link in there: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...iew-9926/c288866b-c4fd-43f8-a96c-32b12cf62d3f
Forcing Win 10 update again and it is downloading now (thought it downloaded before, but maybe the update troubleshooter cleared the download cache)

Back to the cricket while I wait.

NEED HELP.

I had the "$Windows~BT" folder (size 5GB) and ran "Media Creation Tool". After a couple of minutes with no text or updates, I choose to cancel it. It asked "are sure sure you want to quit?", I selected yes, than is said it was "Deleting files, this may take a minute".

Now, the "$Windows~BT" folder is only 1GB and "Media Creation Tool" keeps showing the "Something happened" error.

What should I do? Should I delete "SoftwareDistribution/Download" To get the 5gb back?

EDIT: I have all updates.

Yes, that was a problem for me. I' m Latvian and live in Latvia but I prefer to use English as interface language. I started upgrade but for some reason it decided to install Latvian interface language. The main problem is that it will not allow you to keep apps/programs because of language switch and I couldn't 't find where to force installer to English. Most likely I have to change my location in regional settings but I decided to follow installer, upgraded and then I did fresh clean install from usb with English win 10 pro 64bit. It automatically activated itself.

Well it said it can't figure out if my Windows can handle it again (after redownloading it for no reason) so now I'm downloading a 3rd time to burn to a disc and see if that does better.

I've followed the instructions here but I keep getting error 80240020 showing up in my Windows Update, even after rebooting and checking for updates again.

It's the 29th dammit let me install the stupid thing.

Did they seriously get rid of the easy way to select different backgrounds for multi monitor setups?

Also, the Nvidia driver is seriously lacking when it comes to custom refresh rates. It causes tearing on my 60 Hz monitor when my other monitor is overclocked past 60 Hz. Also, closing King's Quest caused the screen to go black, which did not happen when I was still running both monitors at 60 Hz.

So yea. FUCK Windows 10! Installed. Ended up with black screen with mouse. Tried everything I've found and nothing worked. Finally I had to use my portable drive that I'd created a Respawn backup on.

Finally got the force update via the windows update trick and it only worked when I checked the 'Automatically download and install updates' tick box. Until then, I only had the 'Download updates but I choose when to install them' box ticked.

Worked first time when I changed it.

Is it safe to delete the Windows folder from Windows.old? Installing Windows 10 took up 10GB over 8.1, and space on my boot drive is precious.

It's rolling out in waves via Windows Update. That error is because you're not flagged to install it yet on MS's servers.

If you want it now you have to either force the update or download it from Microsoft yourself.

It's fine but you won't be able to revert back to your previous OS if you do.
