lol...

I said fuck I'm downloading the Media Setup, decided to change my mind since I already downloaded 6 gigs. Of course it decides to delete the BT folder as well.

BAck to the beginning.

No, a Windows 10 reset or refresh will take you back to Windows 10.

Good. Does it replace the hidden factory reset partition on my HDD with a new one?

I did a reset after and during that it asked if I wanted to wipe all drives or just the one with Windows on it. So assume it would be the same here, but I'm not 100% on that.

Ok, thanks, sounds good! I decided to keep all stuff during the upgrade, will reset once it's done and stuff seems to be working.

I'm using a Geforce 7800 GT. Windows 10 installed a generic driver which had a low max screen resolution , so i had to get the windows 7 driver from the nvidia website and everything now works fine.

Cool. I'll try tonight if I have time. 341.74 version I'm assuming? Looks like that's the latest for Windows 7x64 (for cards older than 400 series).

Last night, I upgraded to windows 10. I was able to play witcher 3 with my old saves. Now, I opened it and I can't see my save files. I checked my system and my saves are still in the default folder. I wonder what's the problem?

I did a upgrade and a reset after that, my W10 isn't activated either. And when I try to activate it manually it gives an error and tells me to try again later. I can see both my old W7 key (or the last digits of it) and the new W10 key though, I guess I'll just wait and see.
Yeah, I'm also seeing both keys. Maybe it has something to do with all the web traffic.

I am not completely sure.

If you have a brand-name laptop or desktop with a hidden restoration partition installed by the manufacturer, the updated image should still come from the manufacturer - at some point.

Don't quote me on this. But in theory the way the Windows 10 Refresh and Reset commands work, they might need some manner of a hidden partition for system tools as well. Almost like Mac OS does this.

I got it installed a few hours ago.

If you are worried about some applications not working, I wouldn't if I were you. Everything that I had works perfectly fine.

Honestly, I haven't really paid much attention to the visual upgrades. I feel like I'll benefit more from the upgrades on the back-end.

That works too, although my windows key + X shortcut got screwed up by something else a long time ago.
Huh? Win+X is the only thing that has worked for me throughout the Windows 8 era.

Don't know where I'd be without it. Probably still crying while trying to navigate the Control Panel for some shit.

so i cant left click or right click any modern related apps. tried another mouse and same thing. anyone knows how to fix this? ive tried reinstalling drivers

I've done the force method twice now, worked problem free both times. Your mileage may vary.
It didn't work for me before (just, nothing happened), but after I uninstalled and reinstalled the update that adds GWX.exe this worked now.

Edit: Spoke too soon. It stopped with error 800703ED.

Yeah this method works but people really struggle at following simple directions

It doesn't work for me at all. Immediately gives me a failed update with an error code 80070003.

If you upgrade or do a clean install to Windows 10, how do you receive your key? do you have to have it beforehand?

Also, can I do an upgrade first and then a clean install after?

Yeeeeah, I kind of doubt MSI will bother providing a new image for my 2011 laptop.

Yeah, that's what I was wondering, how the reset stuff works, with partitions etc. Will just have to see, I guess.

That's a bit harsh, considering that I did that multiple times with no success last night (past midnight) and it came back failed.

Only at about 9am was this working. There must ba a time component as well.

It's back now in 10 for me. I missed it a lot. Some shell extension or whatever broke the shortcut and I could never find a solution. Never happened to my GF's computer next to me, so it was something I did.

The force method has worked twice for me, including one computer that never even reserved a copy. If your Windows 7/8.1 is completely up to date and you follow the instructions, it should work.

You must upgrade first to get the key according to MS.

How to force the update:

1. Go into "C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download" and delete everything in that folder, but not the folder itself.

2. Now, run a command prompt as an administrator. Type in "wuauclt.exe /updatenow" with no quotes.

3. Wait a minute, and watch the folder you just emptied. It should start to have files show up.

4. Go to your Control Panel > Windows Update and your Windows 10 should start downloading. Once that is completed, you will be prompted to begin the installation process*

*may not work in territories where W10 is not released

Hope that helps

Didn't work, everything went as planned until step 4. Went into windows update and...nothing.

Windows 10 looks cool but I cannot get my killer network driver to work despite updating it. Not having internet on my main PC is rather annoying.

Thanks HaraKiri, so would I get the key if I upgraded with the Media Create Tool from Microsoft?

Did files start to show up in your previously emptied folder? Did you run the prompt as an admin? Was your 8.1 copy up to date before attempting this? Are you coming from an activated copy of windows/legit version?

Yes to all

Edit: Actually, when I go into Windows update it says I have one optional update..

Dark Edge and Neogaf dark theme is nice and everything, but the ads impact Edge performance pretty badly and it just flat out stops loading pages after a short while.

Think i'll stick to the tried and tested browsers for now.

Only seeing one of my dual screens after install. Nvidia must be getting hammered it is taking forever to download a 200mb file
