Windows 10 Troubleshooting Thread

Do all Windows Updates have to be installed before the update triggers? There's one important update that simply refuses to download and install. When I try to trigger the update manually it doesn't seem to work.

So I take it the way to install is to first upgrade, and then format? I have a legit Win 8 copy so I just want my license to transfer. Spent the day backing up my data. I'm ready for a full refresh. I haven't even reinstalled my PC since the day I built it in 2011!

Uh I do not understand the upgrade procedure, it tells me to click the windows icon on bottom right but when I do it loads up this thing and gives me no option to do anything.

I don't remember if I actually registered by putting in my email or such but I might have done it already and if I have then why cant I upgrade?

The update is not up for some people on purpose so that servers do not get overwhelmed.

Ohh sorry to tell you but is mobile is gone...edge is replacement for desktop and mobile is...will work great even in tablet mode

So people who told me Windows 10 is now great for tablets lied. How can it be great when the basic browsing experience is much worse? Glad I didn't upgrade on my SP3 now.

This is getting incredibly frustrating. I managed to upgrade Windows 8.1 to 10 on my laptop and get it installed and activated. I wanted to do a fresh install so I reinstalled after I was sure Windows 10 was activated, but now it will not activate. It says my product key is blocked! It was working fine a while ago. It only shows the last 5 numbers of the key and they're the same as they were when it was working fine after the upgrade. Any suggestions?

Other people are having activation issues as well so just wait it out.

Go for reboot before trying to figure it out
I tried that already. I was able to get a few of my programs to appear like the nvidia control panel, but everything else seems to appear on a nonexistant 3rd monitor to my primary's left. My second monitor only shows as an extension to the right side.

How exactly does one go about a clean install? I upgraded to Windows 10 and went into the system settings, set it up to factory reset and am now on Windows 8.1 again. It's downloading the update again and I want to do a completely fresh install after that without all the bloat- and adware and whatnot. What's the best way to go about this? One partition on my hard drive is reserved for recovery stuff and I would like to delete all of that as well as it seems like that's where all the HP crap is stored.

use start + tab and see if any virtual desktops are running

I got my PC upgraded and all set up.

One thing: Is anyone having any issues with the email notifications? I don't ever get a notification on my desktop when I get new mail.

I have finished installing Windows 10 on my computer, but it can't find the Tablet Driver. Despite reinstalling the Tablet River for my Wacom Cintiq, along with trying this, but nothing is working.

Can anyone help me? I want to work on my portfolio, but I didn't think this would be an issue.

UPDATE: Now, it seems that whenever I try to revert my settings to what I had (I have a monitor and my cintiq as my main displays), it keeps reverting back to a single screen. Also, my tablet driver is still absent. HELP!

You gotta install Windows 8.1 first, then upgrade to Windows 10. Once you do this, the Windows 10 license is synced to your Microsoft ID. Then you can burn an ISO and do a clean install of Windows 10. No serial key needed, just your Microsoft account.

Sorry. Do you mean upgrade on my hdd first? Is there any issue that I'm swapping parts out?

No Wifi or Bluetooth on my Surface Pro 3 after the update. Can't even get internet though a USB to Cat5e adapter. Holy crap.

Holy shit and I almost started installing on my SP3 but thought I would check this thread one more time to see if there were any major issues.

That wont let you do a clean install though right? What about those of us who want to change bios settings like ACHI or switch to UEFI bios that require a clean format.

It's as close as you will get without going through the normal install process.

If you need to change bios settings that won't help. But if all you want is a normal clean install, it does the job.

any way to fix the small icons in the taskbar? and the new highlight for grouped windows is shit, no way to distinguish between 1 or more open windows.

I can't find anyone else with the same issue. Read my previous posts for a little more detail. Rolled back to 8.1 for now because I have urgent things that I need to get done.

I'm at work right now and using my SP3. I also have urgent things to get done and have no time for any fuckery. Don't think I'm going to take my chances right now.

Right-click on tool bar, properties, uncheck "use small taskbar buttons"

I will say that the rollback to 8.1 was fast and completely flawless. Wouldn't let me refresh the PC though because I didn't have recovery media, apparently.
