Is anyone having trouble in the Update & Security section with Activation?

I can't tell if my key is straight up not working of if the severs are getting slammed too much? From what I can tell, under "Your product key info" doesn't match what my key actually is and when I try to add it it says it doesn't work.

Just wait. It's the servers.

For some people it worked after 30min or so.

I did the upgrade from 8.1 and now my pc is slow. like, vista on bad hardware slow.
I guess Windows is indexing your HDD. Just wait.

All this talk about the upgrade being tied to your MS Account.. what happens when you upgrade from a Local Windows 8.1 Pro account (ie. one that's not logged into their servers/OneDrive)?

Wow, I am not having any issues at the moment, and edge is awesome.

Need to test out hyper v.

EDIT: Desperately need to clean out onedrive folder.

Is this for Windows 10 and the Windows Update isn't detecting anything, or is it for Windows 7/8/8.1 and Windows Update isn't detecting your upgrade?

I'm on Windows 10 and Windows Update hasn't fetched anything for me yet. Wondering if it's a key problem or yeah, slammed servers. Or maybe no updates exist yet?

After updating to Windows 10.

Edit: False alarm, it just activated

had a hell of a time getting this installed because windows thought bitlocker was disabled when it wasn't, but now that it is up and running I am really liking it

It looks like you've reached your device limit for installing apps and games from the Store on your Windows 10 device. If you want to install apps and games from the Store on another Windows 10 device, remove a device from the device list.
what is this shit? received via email. I only have 1 device in the device list

So I've downloaded it and now I've got 3 options. The first is greyed out, which do I choose to upgrade without deleting my stuff? My language was stupidly set on Japanese.

While installing, I got a blue screen error saying "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you (100% complete)." The error is internal_power_error, and its been sitting like this for quite a while. Should I just turn it off?
Edit: I just restarted it and the install is now at 75%...curious

When I lock my screen (Start -> Click your username -> Lock), the lock screen has the on-screen keyboard visible by default. If I start typing using an actual keyboard it goes away. Just waiting, it doesn't. Is there any way to make this not happen? I am find with permanently and completely disabling on-screen keyboards if that's what's required. I am guessing that this is Tablet Cruft?

Upgrades the same and links to your hardware ID.

The link to microsoft account is only made when you log in to one on Windows 10.

what the heck, the first game of solitaire i play and i get a layout where i can literally do nothing

thanks a lot microsoft

Do we have any idea of the timeframe for the "waves" that Microsoft is rolling out? Every few hours? Days? Weeks?

Every time I click the Windows icon it just says that it'll notify me when it's ready.

Right, I may have completely fucked my license up. Can anyone let me know if I can do anything to fix it?

I upgraded from legit 8.1 Pro to 10 Pro but couldn't boot, it always bluescreened so I couldn't complete the installation. Instead I formatted the SSD and installed 10 Pro from a USB drive. Only now Windows isn't activated and I obviously can't use my 8.1 key.

Any fix for the "something happened" error yet?

I managed to suss it on my laptop just now. It wouldn't work with either the Windows update version or the ISO I made with the media creation tool. In the end I found a new folder on my HDD (C:\$Windows.~WS\Sources\Windows) and ran the setup file that was in there. The upgrade ran through first time without a hitch from there.

Hope that helps someone! Maybe I just got lucky though.

Edit: I changed my language from UK to US previously but that didn't help when using the ISO method. It may have helped with the method that worked.

Sry I have not followed the thread for a bit but for all of you that don't get the installation trigged here is how I got it to work:
Just download the media creation tool (I'm on mobile so this is the German version, just google for the english one). Then you download your file and rather burn the ISO or flash it to a USB stick or just open the .ISO and run setup.

Might need to install 8.1 again and redo the upgrade.

Yeah, should not be a problem.

Every time I click the Windows icon it just says that it'll notify me when it's ready.

When i was troubleshooting why my upgrade was failing earlier, it said "keep an eye on your notifications over the next few weeks" which was worrying.

So I forced it. Too impatient.

So since I upgrade from 8.1 on Surface Pro, which already had a recovery partition, I assume if I reset I go back to 8.1 right? I don't want that now, I want to get rid of that recovery partition or turn it to 10 recovery. HALP

AHA pls, you were in the same position as me all day.

Get the Media Creation Tool off Microsoft's website and upgrade through that, it works and activates fine.

Yeah, just downloaded it now and it's downloading W10 again. See you on the other side guys
*fingers crossed nothing goes wrong*

I have a tiny issue: I have a Google Drive folder (created by the Drive program back when I was still on W7) on my non-system partition, and W10 just won't let me delete it even though it's empty. Even with administrator priviliges (which I obviously have) it refuses. It's like nobody owns it, or the system owns it or something, so I'm not allowed to touch it. What can be done about this? It's no biggie, I'd just prefer to get rid of it.

EDIT: Solved it.

Say I want to do a clean install now, but have a shit ton of programs on a D:\ drive. Can I just delete the Program Files (x86) folder there and and then use the Reset option to completely clean their existence?

C is your system drive/partition? The registry entries about those programs should be there, so in that case it should be fine to just remove that entire folder on D.

Any fix for the "something happened" error yet?

In my case, no. My mom's PC, which has identical hardware to mine (except for that her Windows 8 is a retail version and mine came from Dreamspark), is having the exact same error, exact same reason. Perhaps something about our system configuration is causing problems. I'd rather not do a clean Windows 8 install unless I'm absolutely sure that doing the upgrade from scratch will actually help.

You don't, actually. The old control panel is still included in Windows 10. Just search for it.
Search was also not functioning correctly. So I couldn't use it.

It doesn't matter anyway. I've already started the rollback using the shift-restart method. And boy is it taking it's sweet f'ing time. My fingers are getting cramped from typing on a vita all day.

These virtual desktops are very nice, been my most wanted feature ever since I started using Ubuntu.

Yeah, I have 2 extra desktops where I just fullscreen something I don't use much but check every now and then. Keeps the normal one less cluttered.

Is there any way to view a list of all the "Xbox" games? The store does not seem to allow you to search whether the game is an Xbox games. There is a collection of """Great""" Xbox Games but there's only 13 and half are shit. In Windows 8, the Xbox app let you list them all and use that to get into the Store app, but it doesn't seem possible to get a list in the Windows 10 Xbox app because ???

I guess they don't want to discourage people from buying non-Xbox apps or something?

Well after upgrading my sound worked fine, then after the first update it stopped working again...

So... still no sound through DisplayPort for me.

I'm getting notifications about a trial period expiration whenever I try to open Edge.

I also have this issue where it tells me to sign into enter my most recent credential but the page it takes me to has no information on that. I'm signed into my Microsoft account already which confuses me.

Explorer.exe crashes every few seconds.

Anybody have solutions for these?

You need to change your language to the one you're installing in order to be able to keep your stuff, I think.

OS reset? Not really a solution I guess, but that's what I would do with issues like that. None of those things are supposed to happen.

Thanks, I may as well try this.

Hey guys, I tried to download the Windows 10 ISO to a USB flash drive via the Media Creation Tool downloader and both times that I've tried, the bar sits at 0% no matter how long I wait. Is this a client side issue or is it on Microsoft's end from being hammered?
