Windows 10 Troubleshooting Thread

Going to post this again. I'm literally at a complete standstill with this. I don't know what to do next.

I went through the Media Creation Tool process. Everything there went very smoothly. It went through all the prompts. It started installing Windows 10 and I don't know what percentage it got to but it was over 75%, and the system had to restart. Well, while it was doing that I went out to the kitchen to get something to drink. I came back and it was on the Gigabyte splash screen saying something about "boot failure". So I had it just reboot the computer and...now I'm just back in Windows 8.1, like nothing ever happened.

What happened? Am I able to resume installation somehow? It's so bizarre.

It's been great for me as well.

I upgraded a 3 year old Windows 7 install and so far it has been working fine.

The upgrade took less than 30 minutes.

I have noticed a couple of programs aren't showing up in my programs list so I'll have to reinstall them but that's really no big deal to me.
 
Upgrade has been a success! Edge seems to have hiccups though. And sometimes my file explorer will just randomly close out?

Still has kinks. I hope I can get this all resolved soon enough, but overall, enjoying the upgrade. LOVE the multiple desktops.
 
Trying to upgrade my HP Stream 7's Windows 8.1 to Windows 10. So far no luck because after all the process I've gone through, it gets stuck in a black screen. Then I have to restart it and it will restore my previous version of Windows afterward. It says there is an error (0x00002e3) during the installation, I guess. Not sure exactly what that error is yet but it's very strange and sad :(

Define "stalled". How long did you wait? When I installed Win10 the percentage often didn't move for 20-30min and then jumped up 40%. Some peeps did the installation in 30min, for me it took 4 hours, 2.5 of which were spent on the actual installation screen.

Well, the first time, I was sitting right next to it, and it must've been 15-20 mins, though I didn't time it. The second time, I actually left my house to go to a rehearsal for a few hours. So I can't say with 100% certainty what happened. When I got back home, my computer was off. I turned it back on and the very same error came on screen after it restored Win 8.1, the same exact process as the first time. Could something else have happened? Yeah. But I doubt it.
 
Win 10 apparently doesn't recognize my microphone ... But when I take Cortana through my recognition process for the Hey Cortana it hears me fine. Smh.



Anyone know how to fix this? Updated my microphone driver on my laptop ...
 
So after setting up Cortana my teamspeak voice is severely muffled and the windows speech recognition program even through yelling keeps its muffled and quiet. I have to set the settings in teamspeak down to -20db just for them to hear me. Is there some setting I can manually adjust in windows 10 versus trying to mess with the software?

Edit: Nvm found the setting in levels under properties. I'm sure I'm not the only one that's going to stumble across this problem tired.
 
About the bootable usb. Do you have to download the whole thing again? Because I still see the $windows~ws folder in there. Just wondering if you can make it with that.

I did this (How to: Change User Folder Locations in Windows 7) on windows seven, and i wan't to make sure that it's still there and fine on 10, but i can't find my user thing, and when i go to the C drive and check my user folder that way, it says all my folders on my C drive. :( can anyone help. ?

You're looking for the old folder? It should be in Windows.old

Are you using a 32 GB or 16 GB device, if so that is a compressed OS install and you need to free up some space on your tablet before you can install it or you will get error when it runs out of disk space.

I'm actually performing the Win10 upgrade on my Asus X205TA, that's a tiny laptop which uses a 32GB eMMC as storage. Fortunately I didn't really have anything on it besides Chrome so I was able to initiate the upgrade without deleting stuff off it first.

At least the error isn't "Something happened" amirite

if you really dont want to download it again, there is a tool to convert the esd file in that dir to an iso
 
Two things:

One, I want to sign in via a MS account to get the most out of Cortana/Office/etc.

However I do not want to have to sign in when I boot my PC up. Can I either force it to remember my PW or just not ask.

Two, How can I stop it from asking me to run this as administrator or to contact my admin about X feature. My acct is set up as admin.

How much space are we talking about here ? I've got 3.5 GB left with the Windows ~BT folder already in the system. Uninstalling Office will get me up to 5.10GB. Will that be enough ? I don't have anything else really on this system other than default apps.
 
I upgraded and poked around a bit. The only new Windows app I like is Photos, it is the best but every other default app is meh so I use alternatives. Overall, if this upgrade wasn't free I don't think I would have done it. There's barely anything interesting on a desktop and Windows 8.1 was already super fast on my ssd. I am slightly kicking myself though every time I go back to my Ubuntu install and realize I can't use that Win10 Photos app.
 
I downloaded the tool, but when I open it, a window appears saying an error appeared (or something like that, I don't use english in windows).

I changed my location, but it still does it. Windows update doesn't show the icon of windows 10 and it only installs some security upgrades.

I have windows 7.

What should I do?
 
I purchased a brand new laptop with Windows 8 and i'm wondering if i should upgrade it out of the box or wait. How is Windows 10 so far? I expect there to be some compatibility issues for a brand new OS as far as some programs and drivers go, but it should run smoothly on a brand new machine, no? I don't have too much experience with Windows 8 so I wouldn't want to get used to it in the mean time...

It's not my screenshot, it's from the tutorial site. But it did the same thing on my computer. I'm not sure what you did to avoid it, aside from perfectly matching that color of gray.

I think you need a lot because it backs up your entire existing Windows 8.1 installation to Windows.old before upgrading. You might as well uninstall Office and see if that frees up enough to install it, you can delete the downgrade backup after and reinstall Office.
 
I got an email from MS saying I'd reached my limit for installing apps from the Windows 10 store. I went to the link provided and I only had two devices listed - my gaming PC and my Windows tablet.

So is there a two device limit for apps from the store? At seems very restrictive. I regularly have access to five Windows devices, and use four of them regularly. So I can't install apps I've paid for on two of those? And presumably that'll include Windows phone too, so even more restrictive, at the same time they are pushing windows 10 as a multi platform Solution.

Restricting to only two sessions - I.e. I can't be actively logged in and using more than two - that would see more reasonable. Or an Xbox model where I have one machine where any users can access the apps, but on other machines I need to be logged in. But this seems really limited

Uninstalling Office and also doing disk cleanup. Somehow that seems to have gotten me up to 8.67GB free, haha. Hopefully that's enough :D Thank you for your help so far !

It's the same as before... just go to c:\Users\name and right click on the folder you want to move -- eg Desktop. There is a location tab in the properties still where you can move the folder

you can do windows+r and enter c:\users to get to the folder if that is your issue

I got the same thing and I only have one windows 10 device listed (plus an xbox 360)

Run AMD 64bit driver and it tells me my system is 32bit.

I check and low and behold it's fucking 32bit.

What fucking year is it?

I sell laptops for a living and we havnt sold anything 32bit in fucking years.

haha same shit happened to me. I first upgraded my win 10 pro and it when smooth. Then I decided I want everything clean. I checked in MS media creation tool options: English, Windows 10 pro, 64 bit for my clean install usb creation media. Made usb, installed and what i got was windows 10 home 32 bit. I rolled my eyes and laughed. How that happened, no idea. I then double checked and created install with that MS tool once again. Win 10 pro 64 bit and on my second attempt everything was ok.
 
Wow, I just realized the Xbox app allows you to play Xbox One with any controller you want (or at least with a 360 controller, haven't tried others). That's pretty wild.
 
Getting "No connection" on ethernet with an old desktop running Nvidia 6150SE nForce 430. Also, I can't change the resolution to match the monitor. I got generic drivers running for the gpu and monitor. Argh.

I might just run a full reset since Win 10 is activated.

Edit: All of the issues are resolved after a "reset"
 
I switched back to Internet Explorer 11 as my default browser. I'll wait for Edge to have clear cache on exit and Lastpass support.

Really sorry to be a pain, but i already tried that, and there was no location tab. :(
