I'm surely not the only person whose update hasn't popped yet right?

edit: Lets see my post gets ignored by everybody who already has win 10.

Man this is so so so so much better than windows 8.

Cortana is great, edge is pretty much instant browsing. bye chrome, go choke on those gifs

It's a simple command that just starts the installation of downloaded updates. Which is what the issue people are having. Windows 10 was downloaded but no notification to install it. A lot simpler and a lot less risk than editing the Registry at any rate.

Absolutely incorrect.

The "simple command" doesn't work for a huge variety of situations and PCs. Simply read through this thread, Reddit, and other places to find countless people saying they're continuing to run into errors. They're causing more problems than they're solving because that command does not work the way you or they think it works

Adding a single registry key is far less risky than deleting system files and running commands from an admin-elevated command prompt. Especially considering that the recommendation is coming straight from Microsoft.

So with Windows 10 upgrade, you can't do a clean install? I updated my Windows 8.1 Pro to 10 Pro and downloaded the ISO. Decided to reformat my PC since it was feeling slow and it doesn't accept my CD key, so I have to instal Windows 8.1 again and then upgrade to 10?

Has anyone else noticed that pictures are a bit blurrier in the Photos app or Windows Photo Viewer than in 3rd party programs? Does anyone know how to fix this?

Edit: It apparently has to do with my custom DPI settings.

For the Free Upgrade: Have You Upgraded and Activated Your Windows 10 System?

If you want to perform a clean install of WIndows 10 and haven’t upgraded to Windows 10 yet on your Windows 7 or 8.1 PC, you have some extra work to do. You’ll need to take advantage of Microsoft’s upgrade offer before performing a clean install. (Obviously, if you have a PC that came with Windows 10 or you’ve purchased your own Windows 10 license, this isn’t necessary.)

When you upgrade a Windows 7 or 8.1 system to Windows 10, the installer confirms that you have a “genuine Windows” system installed and activates your computer for use with Windows 10. Note that you don’t actually get a Windows 10 product key — instead, your computer’s hardware is registered with Microsoft’s servers. When you install Windows 10 on that PC again in the future, it will check in with Microsoft’s servers, confirm it’s installed on a registered PC, and automatically activate itself.

You can do a refresh in Windows 10 that will wipe and reinstall. Go to the update and recovery section in the control panel, the refresh option is in there

I really don't appreciate their hardware-based approach. Works fine for prebuilts, but even if it only ties to motherboard and/or CPU it's potentially a nightmare for builders. Any info on how that will work with upgrades?

It's not much of a hassle. I recently rebuilt and fresh installed my PC with an upgrade version of Windows 8. Obviously, activation didn't work. I just called a toll free number and the tech support walked me through a workaround. I think in most cases you may have to call but I've never had an issue getting a license transferred to a new PC.

Everything went really smooth except for the Mail app sync issue. My main Microsoft account is from a school which has unlimited access, so it did also create an Outlook account in the Mail app in addition to my existing account.

Everytime I shut the lid on my laptop windows crashes and powers off my laptop.

DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

Is the error code

Driver error most likely.

Anyone else have to pull down a BIOS update to get it to work? My X1 carbon had a new set of BIOS instructions come out on Tuesday and I applied it prior to the update just to be safe.

Drama much?

I couldn't install it last night.

Tried Media Creation Kit.

"Something happened - Something happened"

Next I tried the wuauclt.exe trick with Windows Update. It worked - it downloaded the files.

Then I get an error message.

:(

23 failed install attempts on my windows 7 desktop so far, no matter what i do it crashes with error 0x8007025d 0x2000c and yet it installed on my 8 year old pos laptop i never use in 1 go -_-

I tried using the Media Creation Tool to Upgrade: Something Happened

I Tired the update through Windows Update (After 3 hour download): Install failed

Finally got it by using the Media Creation Tool to download to USB. Ran it from the USB and now i'm running W10.

Installed this on my dell venue 8 pro and it seems some of dell's drivers still don't support windows 10 yet. My wifi driver is listed as some generic sdio and stopped working after intital restart, and my bluetooth seems very buggy.

Glad you mentioned this, I was going to try that myself today but I guess I'll hold off.

Okay, good. It probably sounds stupid, but I've never done it before; is it a relatively simple process?

Don't you only get 1 activation? I haven't even started the upgrade process yet, so I don't know exactly how they're handling things.

I had to reinstall Windows 10 on my SSD last night after disabling my RAID 0 drives as for some reason it had put part of the boot section on one of them.
I re-installed using the media tool and booted up into it from USB and it would not activate after.

Found on Microsofts website that if you change your harddrive, your supposed to Install your previous OS and then upgrade again.

Thats what it said on their site.

Edit, just found the web page.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-10/why-activate-windows-10

If you formatted or replaced your hard drive, you won't be able to use a product key to update to Windows 10. You'll need to install your previous version of Windows, then reinstall Windows 10.

What a mess this is. I finally got it loaded up on the laptop and it won't let me get into settings because apparently, the trial period for the app has expired. Really?
