Why.
Everyone who upgrades has the same key for that version. You don't have a retail licence, you have an upgrade one. Although if you call them, they might transfer it anyway if needed.
LolWhy.
Why.
I guess another method is to install your previous OS first (Win 7 or 8, using its original key) then upgrade to Windows 10 again after.
Why.
Those are driver issues. Also when upgrading laptops, you should ALWAYS check with the manufacturer if the upgrade is supported.Windows 10 has been a complete let down for me. I have a Sony Vaio from 2013 that works flawlessly on Windows 8, but once I updated to Windows 10, the sound became super distorted, the touchpad failed to register right clicks or two finger scrolling, and text looks blurry.
It honestly feels like I downloaded a beta. Considering how long this OS was in insider preview, I wondering just what they fixed in this timespan. Big disappointment for me. I don't see why my (relatively) new laptop is having so many issues.
I had but it was a mix of ISP and driver issue though. If you have an intel WiFi card I'd suggest installing the latest W8.1 drivers on their support page, as these are working far better for me than the ones that W10 installed. Is anyone else having issues with their wifi connection dropping a lot? After upgrading it seems like my connection is dropping all the time. It says I'm "connected" but I can't connect to the internet, while all my other devices are fine.
No, not really, driver issues fall on the manufacturer, not on MS.Friend of mine downloaded it and his TouchPad doesn't work anymore. There's no driver for it for Windows 10.
Shouldn't everything that work on 8 still work on 10? Pathetic.
Check if your XPS model is in the list here.Has anyone installed it on the new XPS 13 yet? I'm getting one next weekD) and I want to know if it works fully there.
Otherwise I'll wait.
For some reason, I went on a cleaning spree and uninstalled an old VPN software that I had due to a previous job *just* before upgrading to 10. Guess I dodged a bullet thereHey if you're upgrading from 8.1 to 10 make sure you uninstall your VPN client before hand.

Windows 8 already did this, and I think sync is on by default, but you can turn it all off.ok this is odd. I just set up the kid's laptop with Win 10, and signed in with my MS account initially as administrator. But my wallpaper from my main desktop just popped up. So is it syncing settings based on my MS account? If so, how do I stop it doing that? I don't want any changes on my laptop to be reflected back on my desktop, which I have set up how I want it.
Definitely not space, my laptop had 6GB left after the upgrade downloaded and the update went fine.I have sort of approached my Surface Pro Windows 10 upgrade as the general public would to see how it goes, and it has been nothing but problems compared to my desktop upgrade before release.
The windows update upgrade fails with error 80070006 every time.
The media tool upgrade fails during first boot phase.
There is no clear guidance for a consumer on what to do in these circumstances, you just get forwarded to a generic help page.
If it is to do with free space, there is nothing left that I can remove from the HDD. It is a 64GB surface pro, has 22GB free space and the rest is taken up by Windows 8 files.
I can obviously initiate a clean install of Windows 8.1 myself, but your general consumer is not going to do that.
Oh and the Windows 10 upgrade deletes it self every time it is failing, and then Windows update has to re-download it all again.
Install this and then this.So the last few times I've turned on my pc I get a system error for ColorUService.exe because file MSVCP100.dll is missing from my computer. From googling there seem to be loads of programs to download to fix it but I don't know how trustworthy they would be. Anyone here got some more know how?
That I'm not so sure, but a call to Microsoft should take care of it.Mine doesn't work and I have UAC on.
Doesn't the key get revoked after a month? Of is that just the internal rollback method?
For the love of all that is holy why can I not disable the f'ing corner things that cause the mouse to not move over to side monitors?
Most annoying thing ms ever added to windows. I haven't noticed it much unless I'm dragging a window. Will test when I get home. Sticky edges are the work of the devil.
Well after clean installing my laptop is screwed. Can't use any of my hotkeys and whenever the laptop enters sleep mode my touchpan stops working forcing me to reboot.
What a bummer. If you don't need to reset pc, don't bother, unless you know for a fact all drivers are 100% compatible with Windows 10
And now I can't go back to Windows 7. I'm a complete idiot.
Will try this out thanks.Let Windows Update first find whatever drivers it can, then check your manufacturer's support site for Windows 10 drivers. Check device manager to see what's missing too.
Problem 1: seems to be something on your end, since it's instant on my machine. Are you using an SSD, have indexed, etc?Unfortunately Windows 10 is not what I have hoped for, yet.
Neat design but seems a little unstable, though. My real problem is, however, the search feature at the start menu and the very menu itself. I always launched my programs by just hitting the Windows key and typing right away. I could open the calculator in one second by just typing "calc" and hitting enter as soon as I finished with the last letter. Or "Vegas" for "Sony Vegas Pro" or "irf" for "IrfanView" or "Photo" for "Photoshop".
Now it's like the search takes ages. It's about 2 seconds before the search even shows up the program. So with typing and actually opening it's now 3 or 4 seconds. That's 3 to 4 times longer than I used to. Unacceptable for me and my workflow.
Problem 2: Not showing MOST the programs at all. Whether it's IrfanView, VLC, Sony Vegas or other programs. Just few are showing up like Steam but others won't show up at all and aren't even in the so called "app list" on the very left BESIDES being in "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs".
Opening and even a fresh reinstall of given programs won't work. It's simply a pain in the ass to look up and start programs. What I have to do now in most cases is: windows key + e -> clicking c:\ -> clicking search bar at the top right -> typing "Vegas" -> clicking on program folder -> clicking executable/shortcut.
Problem 3: According to several websites there is an option to customize the Start Menu by right clicking the task bar, hitting properties and just right to the "navigation" tab is where it should be. Things like "number of recent items to display" should be there. But it isn't. Where do I actually find these options? The tab is simply not there.
If this isn't getting fixed I have to switch back to Windows 7 because those a very crucial features for me, not working anymore. Do you guys have any tipps or the same issue?
There are also 1.5 million files indexed so far so I think that's not the problem... programs should show up anyway, shouldn't they?
I must have gotten lucky, because I used the first method and haven't had any issues so far.IMPORTANT NOTE IF YOU ARE SEEING THIS
DO NOT go and wipe your download folder. While that may work for some people, it doesn't work for everyone, as the upgrade process is complex with a ton of different phases and multiple reasons why it may or may not work.
You'll likely end up causing more problems than you solve.
INSTEAD
Follow the instructions here:

By doing this, not only are you avoiding re-downloading the entire thing with the Media Creation Tool, but you are also avoiding a lot of potential headaches.
The error code does not mean that there was a problem with the download. It simply means that you weren't eligible to install it yet.
Thinks are actually going really well! Just been super busy is all![]()

According to the tested review video this can be tuned off but I don't remember how. When I do the upgrade myself I'm turning it off. I hate the feature an dont understand why it was ever added.
It can be disabled, im not at my computer right now. But try right clicking the taskbar and select options, think it might be in there(dont kill me if it isnt).
Yep, SSD and 1.5 million files indexed and completed. Even searching for "index options" took two seconds. I don't know what's wrongAre you using an SSD, have indexed, etc?
Everything on my SSD folder which is my OS drive was set to read only. That was weird
So far I really dislike windows 10 on my surface.
Window snapping is actually less intuitive than on w8.,but my biggest annoyance is edge.
I was going to wait for the official upgrade pop-up, but it still hasn't triggered for me.
Am I on like Wave 465 or something?
I just finished installing it and it went to a black screen with no mouse cursor or anything. I can't tell that it restarted. Any fixes?
My guess is you did this registry hack to permanently disable UAC: http://www.eightforums.com/system-security/2434-disable-uac-completely.html
Change it back to 1 and you're set.
Yeah, from what I've seen windows 10 is actually a downgrade for surface tablets if you just use the touch screen most of the time. Sticking with 8.1 for now.
So the last few times I've turned on my pc I get a system error for ColorUService.exe because file MSVCP100.dll is missing from my computer. From googling there seem to be loads of programs to download to fix it but I don't know how trustworthy they would be. Anyone here got some more know how?

Why does Windows Update eat up all my bandwidth while running?
I only have 25 down.

MS using your bandwidth to share Windows 10 to other people (like a torrent).
Your Sound Blaster Z should be fine. I didn't have any problems, and issues people had during the technical preview seem to have been fixed.
Remember, the Windows 10 rollout is going to take weeks.
Hi! Sorry about the late reply.
I have a Soundblaster ZxR and the drivers I had installed under Win 8.1 work perfectly fine under 10. Although I see they are releasing Windows 10 compliant drivers soon for my model, but I haven't encountered any dealbreakers for me so far. I don't use EVERY feature of my card though, so there may be some things not working right. But listening to 24bit music on my connected headphones, adjusting the various sound alternation settings from SBX Pro Studio, or using the voice alteration stuff on my mic all work like they did before.
I also have an optical cable going from my TV to the soundcard to route sound from my consoles so I can hear it on my headphones when situations require it. Also works fine.
Oh and I want to address one of the problems I was having earlier. I mentioned that I could not find a quick and easy way to adjust monitor settings. Well, there actually is a shortcut for it.
Windows Key + P (this may not be new, but it's new to me -- i was using the charms bar to adjust my monitors before, but now it's gone)
Will bring up a list to enable/disable other monitors and other handy features very quickly. Awesome stuff!
Here's a decent primer on some of the shortcuts in Windows 10. Some are all-new:

Someone knows how to use PinAnything with Windows 10 ?
I've seen a screen with the application working posted on the "Show your desktop" topic. the link
Windows Update is a great concept that really doesn't work as well as you'd want it to.
Did you allow Windows 10 to check for updates prior to installing it? Because it shipped with a bunch of day one patches to be installed.
