I threw up a little bit in my mouth.

I can't believe that you're forced to go into the desktop to perform something as essential as managing files. Just ridiculous, especially for a tablet. You can't even create folders in the file picker.

I don't have a problem with most of Windows 8, but basic design flaws like this, the existence of the desktop on Windows RT, and the default programs thing might just ruin it for me on some form factors to be honest.

Everyone's moving past manual file system labor. Get used to it.

Not to say that everyone's implementation so far is great, but we're at the first steps.

That's the problem. The file system on Metro isn't automatic - it's still presented as a manual folder hierarchy, the difference being that you can't manage it at all.

Just installed this. The constant jumping in and out of Metro is a bit annoying, although I'm warming up to the concept of the UI.

The Verge hands-on with the Xbox SmartGlass app:

SmartGlass is going to be available for Windows 8 PCs along with iOS and Android devices, and Microsoft intends for all versions of the app to heave feature parity — but there are some fuzzy areas still. One of the features touted this morning was the ability to start video on one SmartGlass device, then pick it up where you left off on another, and even stream video content from the SmartGlass app directly to your 360. Microsoft wouldn't definitively state that the video streaming would be coming to the iOS and Android versions, however, and given Apple's preference for AirPlay over DLNA, we wouldn't be surprised if we end up not being able to stream our home videos from our iPhone to our 360 using SmartGlass.

Microsoft refers to SmartGlass as a platform, and that's really what it appears to be building here. If the content providers jump on board — Paramount and HBO both helped created the demos we saw, and we were told Microsoft's other brand partners will be taking advantage as well — the system could become the interactive, digital video-equivalent of DVD special features. Not just for a single movie, either, but for all your video content. It's ground Apple has tried to cover with iTunes Extras, and an area where one would think Google would have been able to excel with Google TV. Neither has succeeded, but it appears Microsoft may be bringing together the disparate elements together in a way that is actually functional for end users (of course, Microsoft has made similar promises that haven't come through before). That's not even touching on the possibilities on the gaming side, which would seem to render a system like the Wii U all but a curiosity. The app will be launching sometime before the end of the year, which should leave Microsoft plenty of time to get its content partners on board — and to get that Game of Thrones map working just right.

Man, all those hardware announcements are kinda pointless, when they don't have a price or availability. Also, I still don't get why I should pay more than 499 for a non-1080p tablet, when I can get a retina iPad for that price.

The same reason why you pay more for iPhone despite the fact that you can get mp3 player with better sound quality for less

Intel: Everything needs to be touch, even if it doesn't.

Intel is chasing the demand for "mobile on-ramps," getting devices equipped with Intel-hardware in front of the growing demand for internet connected devices. There are currently 35 different ultrabooks on the market, and Intel expects the total to rise to 110 ultrabooks by the end of the year.

It's a bit of a gamble: the company is counting on consumers to adopt touchscreen ultrabooks at a rapid pace. Thomas Kilroy, Senior Vice president of Intel's Sales and Marketing group, explained that Intel is "expecting volume for ultrabooks to kick in 3rd quarter for back to school." And the company plans on helping things along: the company is investing in a number of factories and corporations that develop touchscreen panels, focused on creating touchscreen displays that are 13-inches and larger to surpass forecasted demand for touch-friendly products.

WHAT HAVE THEY DONE.

:-/

Finally, you can watch your movies without black bars!

What? That's the same shitty excuse I get from people defending 16:9 devices. :lol

Are ultra books even that popular? Also touch on desktops is just shit, just like it is on laptops, mouse and touch pad just work better, do people even use the touch on docked transformera?

Are you shitting me?

Intel's All-in-One concept PC has plug-in upgrade module, 21:9 screen

Intel's 29-inch all-in-one PC doesn't have a real name — it's just called the All-in-One concept PC — but it does have a lofty goal: showing off technology that the company is developing, in the hopes that PC manufacturers will jump on board. It offers a 21:9 aspect ratio and is attached to an articulating arm that can pivot down to an easel mode or lay entirely flat. The concept was developed with help from a number of companies and isn't ever going to be available for sale (we couldn't even get an estimate on the concept's build cost).

We need to go wid-fuck you!

I love these crazy looking machines. Beats the same boring looking Windows 7 laptops I see everywhere I go.

... huh??

Converngent devices tend to be more expensive, so when you're getting x86 convertible it's bount to cost more, but in the end you save up on space (and often money) by having one device replace multiple ones. Just like iPhone replaces dumbphone, mp3 player and cheap camera.

Of course, this is all about x86 ones. ARM ones costing more than iPad is just plain silly.

I agree, more options is always better. You may not like it, but someone might.

I threw up a little bit in my mouth.

Is this what metro is going to look like when I get my 2560x1440 screen? I mean, I've only gone into start 3 times since I've installed the release preview, but that is just so terrible.

Only if you're going to pin 87 icons to the start screen without grouping them.

Like the desktop pic above, only if you don't clean it up as things are added. Just, eww.

Went in and organized all my stuff after seeing that, probably won't be getting much more cluttered than this.

Metro just sucks... Big ass icons, poor 'live' tiles... Its the start bar but made bigger and more space wasted....

The color scheme can be changed. It's just how little stuff you can fit on there. Plus the abbreviated section names? Gami...? Utiliti...? WTF

The start bar worked... Now its just blown up to be touch friendly... Nothing I've seen has shown an advantage to it over the old one... Even on touch, is just a waste of space... Live tiles are just bad and don't show anything really...

Honestly, ideal world for me, win 7 task bar, Android widgets that shoe more ininfo for most used apps, and just normal biggish icons when you press the start button that full the screen...

What don't you like about the live tiles? The people app shows notifications, the mail app shows your latest emails, the calendar shows your appointments, sports app shows news and scores... what else were you expecting? It's pretty much perfect, IMO.
