Pretty sure it's tied to your XBox gamerscore. I know on my Windows Phone games like Wordament added to it.

No, each are different brands

Technically yes except it's the "i" at the beginning of each word that associates it with Apple. If it was called the ePhone you wouldn't think it was an Apple product. They didn't have to call it the iPod Phone because the Pod part of the name is irrelevant.

Similarly Xbox is synonymous with Microsoft and very popular. Hence it being one of their strongest brands.

No, its synonymous with the console. Gameboy... etc

I don't really agree that xbox is synonymous with microsoft. That name is kept far away in commercials and advertising.

I don't know why, but I completely missed this for some reason. I'm downloading it right now. The Metro UI looks really great, especially partnered with MS' web services.

Plus, the video on the MS site pretty much sold me on it, and the Surface. If the Surface is seriously $199, I will actually consider getting it despite owning an iPad.

I am surprised that they didnt just name it 'windows games' 'windows music' ... etc...

But they are trying to push the xbox and the extra services... so its all 'xbox music'... etc... And they tie it to their xbox stuff on phones too.

Its stupid, but whatever. Zune is pretty much dead.

Except people think the console... I mean, its got box in the name.

Most companies would try a new branding, Microsoft instead does it half asserly as usual.

It only makes sense if you are lazy really. I mean, 'xbox' doesnt scream service to 99% of people, its a box, a console. Its like Nintendo calling everything Gameboy, because it was such an iconic name.

Well Nintendo had a whole lineup of Wii[blank] games. They leveraged the brand of the console to sell those games. Microsoft wants to do the same with their xbox brand.

These days I know "xbox" more as a media device than games.... it's actually smart to move everything media to the xbox brand.

Well, they were games on their wii though >.>

Xbox games, Movies, Music are not on the xbox if you use them on your phone or windows.

Also how long will Xbox be around? (The console?)

I mean, it seems to me we are moving away from the extra boxes in the living room with smart tvs and internetically connected kachiggas. Arent tonnes of Americans ditching Cable too?

The rebranding hasn't officially hit yet. A little early to make judgements on it.

As for tons of people ditching cable I don't think it's a significant enough amount to change anything yet. With online video services being chained to pay TV accounts I don't expect to see the mass exodus some hope for.

The xbox is going to get all these brands also. MS has been releasing data showing how many people use their 360s for thigns other than games .

They want single services across the board. Oh i have an xbox and i subscribe to xbox music (formaly zune pass) ... oh windows 8 has xbox music ! now i can use it on both.

Did MSDN and DreamSpark merge or something? My college link to MSDN takes me to DreamSpark instead. Oh well though as long as it lets me download it.

How many of you guys have stuck with this Windows 8 Release Preview as the main OS of your PC?
I'm using it as my main OS until I get my DreamSpark RTM build.

I think Dreamspark is a part of MSDN because I can't find anything that specifically references Dreamspark when it comes to Win 8 release.

I am. I'm using keyboard and mouse, too... but I don't think I ever want to go back. Notifications are nice. Apps are nice. Don't want to live without em.

Hated the Consumer Preview, BTW.

I've been using Windows 8 as my main OS since Consumer Preview. I still have Windows 7 installed on separate partition, but I haven't accessed it since March.

What exactly is Windows 8 RTM? Is that the final build before retail release?

Microsoft needs better account management for their online things. My main Hotmail account is tied to the us because I bought one stupid game for gfwl when they had a deal, had to set my account to us, now I can't access Australia stuff on it...

It is release version essentially. On the same update channel and crap. The one oems put on their machines.

So I can install it and not have to worry about it pooping out on me once it's released for store retail?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure, especially with them trimming back all the 'editions' for windows 8
If that's truly the case then I'm hella fired up. Will wait to see though.

Are we sure its going up on dreamspark?
Official word is MSDN and TechNet.

RTM = Release to manufacturing.

It's the final 9200 build.

Microsoft hates you.

As long as you have a legit key, yes.

Well, you need a valid serial key, and unless you have MSDN/Technet or a hookup with either of those, you can't really get one till October 26th when it goes on sale for $40.

Awesome, I'll see if it pops up on my MSDN/Dreamspark Premium today. Thanks guys :D

*edit*
Alright I think I have just Dreamspark Premium and not MSDN. I wonder if it will still be released on Dreamspark Premium.

Wouldnt be suprised if they did relase it on dreamspark too. They want everyone and their cat making metro apps after all.

Pretty sure 15th was confirmed day for release to msdn and crap.

MSDN != MSDNAA/DreamSpark Premium.

It's going to be released before the 26th, but not necessarily today.

Yeah I just found that out. According to this it will be released on DSP today as well, but I'm not completely sure I buy it. We'll see though.

Too bad I'm currently a bum who doesn't program anything outside of school work, I just want a free Windows 8 :P

*edit* had the wrong link, fixed it.
