What if Mango shows up earlier? :o

NoDo seems to work great for me. I can finally watch YouTube videos (I don't have a TV in my bedroom), browse the marketplace without too much trouble and that's basically all I wanted from this update. :)

Unless the update process changes drastically, I'm sure MS won't be "surprising" us with an update. I am worried that the Chevron team won't release similar software for newer updates, but I'm hoping SOMEONE will.

maybe sooner than we think... :D

I seriously do not know what is up with my messaging. It's taking forever to catch up to my keyboard presses and it takes a few seconds for my chat box to pop up.

For some reason when I'm round my grannies I can never connect to her WiFi. Everyone else can using iPhones and android but me it always says incorrect password. Very annoying. help pls

Put in correct password!

I find on some wifi I have to put in the actual hex code directly instead of using paraphase for it to connect.

Do you have the Focus? I used to have this problem when I had the SD card in my Focus, not all the times but occasionally the keyboard would lag a bit. It usually happen when I switch task.

Yeah. Ugh that sucks.

So, the last thing that holds me from buying a Windows phone is the missing Whatsapp...
Any news about that? I understand that developers still don't have the permissions from Microsoft that would make this and Skype work?

But sometimes, like once in a blue moon it connects... Its really strange.

Wait for MIX in a couple of days. They may or may not talk about opening up more WP7 APIs.

Wow, the guys at Verizon really don't want to release the phone :lol

Yeah, I am glad I told my co-worker not to wait for Verizon Windows Phone ... I would looks like an idiot. I don't get what is taken them so long. Someone on WPcentral mention something about Verizon getting rid of 1 year contract or something.

They might as well cancel the phone and wait for the second gen in six months.

Look at this awesome iPad exclusive Bing App:

http://microsoft-news.com/bing-ipad-redefines-search-experience-tablets/

Will they ever bring something like this to WP7? :o
I think they said the lack of an awesome Bing app it's HTML5 related. Have to find that quote, though.

edit: Nah, that was just about the HTML5 enhancements on the mobile site.

Today, we launched updates to the Bing for Mobile browse (m.bing.com) making it easier for you to get and view information while on the go. New features in this update include better and faster image search, real-time transit and directions, app search for the iPhone, and more. Utilizing HTML5, the new features are offered on Smartphone browsers for the iPhone and Android. If you have a Windows Phone 7 device, don’t worry, Windows Phone 7 just announced that it will support HTML5 later this year so these updates will work great at that time.

I'm am so looking forward to the next episode of Windows Phone Radio now. I really hope they do actually talk about failures (and admit them) this time around instead of just praising themselves for half an hour. I somehow think they won't do it, though.

I also think they've not released this week's episode because they were talking about how the updated is here and awesome everything is and stuff like that. After they've realized that almost no one has the update and that nothing is awesome, they just said there were problems with the episode...

This will probably not happen. While Brian and Matt are really nice guys, they probably won't apologize like Joe did. Especially not Brian, since he's a marketing guy. But even if they do, it would be more like "yeah, sorry 'bout that. We're working on it. btw, everything is going to be awesome!"

Listening to the latest episode and I was right. :D Not one single apology and after 5 minutes or so they're already talking about what's coming next at MIX.

Windows Phone 7 podcast is a joke to listen to, it's half an hour of self-congratulatory of how great they are doing and telling each other they are so awesome working at Microsoft. The other half of the show is oh looks we have all these great things coming to you.

As for Bing, well the failure is really on Windows Phone 7 team really and not the Bing team.

Just received an update to Yelp... app still sucks though. Not sure what it did.

It's kind of sad that I click the restaurants button and half the time I get a "No results found" message box...

bing-related; has anyone been able to search for images using the windows phone 7 search? am i just being dumb & missing something obvious?
Nope, searching for images with the build in app is not possible.

The Surround I got (a refurb) is a dud. Although the screen issues seemed to go away, no one can hear me speaking to them on phone calls now (it was not like this the first day). I am going to exchange it for a Focus if possible. Although I adore the build quality of the Surround (and the screen too!), the thickness is not desirable.

So, should have listened to Van Mardigan.

Why is there no smart DJ for Zune pass users?
There's bi Smart DJ on WP7. Zune on WP7 is not feature complete, when you compare it with the Zune HD. Smart DJ in combination with a Zune Pass subscription works on the Zune HD and PC just fine.

Installed the latest update for my HD7... what the fuck does it do? Still can't use custom ring tones so to me it's FAIL!
It fixes the marketplace search, stability, improves app load times and adds copy and paste. Next time read the text before you update or the OP.

just got a new laptop. how do i move my account from zune on my old pc to my new one? i can log in but i can't sync my phone.

You can sync a Zune device with up to five computers. If all slots are full, then go to the Zune software, click on settings, then phone and under sync options, you see the button "forget this phone" under Device options.

I think I read it was condlsidered a bandwidth usage issue for some users but ridiculous that uts not an option
hmm, perhaps. never thought of it like that. any idea how the iphone's search engines (there's more than one available, right?) handle it? my old g1 could search for images, i'm sure.

Can anyone recommend some earbud type headphones? I don't particularly care about an in-line mic but a fully functional music clicker would be great.

I just use the one that come with my Samsung. I haven't been able to find one that work with the Focus. The one made for iPod/iPhone doesn't work.

Why does Fruit Ninja hangs/stutters/slow down on my Sammy Focus?

I thought NoDo update might help but it is still the same. No SD card installed too.

Is this a known bug?

Last night the screen on my Focus went out. Literally looks like a 360 with a faulty gpu. One minute it was fine then *poof*. Taking the battery out and power cycling it is not helping.

Anybody else heard of such a problem?

Never heard of that...does MS/ATT offer a warranty of some sort?
Yea...I'm pretty sure I'm fine. Just got it in February. They'll have to send it away though. No loaner phones either...which I think is ridiculous when you are paying for a service.

Eventually everybody learns this lesson. :P

I don't think they'll let you exchange for a Focus straight up, though. Maybe you get a nice sales associate who hooks you up. If you do get a Focus, I think you'll like it. Thin, light, best screen and best camera.

On another note I've noticed this weird new bug in NoDo where the auto correct mechanism occasionally leaves the misspelled word behind in addition to the correction, so you get the two words together. I can't pin down exactly when it happens, but I did not experience this pre-update. Happened to me as I was editing this post. I clicked on the word nite so it highlighted, then clicked on the correction I wanted, which was note, then I ended up with nitenote.

Anybody else getting this?

It happen to me the other day but I don't recall what I was doing exactly but I think it was somehow copy and paste the hightlight word.

WPCentral got a list of announcements for MIX11 from an unverified source, so take it with a grain of salt.
This coming week, Microsoft is hosting their developer conference in Las Vegas, NV, aptly called MIX. They usually announce new tools for developers and roadmaps for features there as well, so it's kind of a big deal as we get a look into what is coming next. Here are a couple of things developers can expect, we're told:
  • Interoperability: devs can now use both Silverlight and XNA inside a single app
  • Bundled SQL CE on the device
  • Full camera API access e.g. for augmented reality apps
  • Live tiles and push notifications will be improved and easier for developers to use
  • Sensor framework and controls - easier access
  • Silverlight 4 for Windows Phone
  • Full network / sockets access (we've heard this before)
  • More on 'Mango'
http://www.wpcentral.com/mix11-announcements-windows-phone-rumors

Nothing really shocking or surprising here, except for the combination of Silverlight and XNA. I'd say the rest the usual evolution of the SDK.

MIX starts in two days.

So based on those announcements if true...are the new SDK's available to developers immediately? I'm not a developer but I'm just trying to gauge how long it would take for things like whatsapp and liveprofile and skype to be released to WP7 [assuming they will actively develop once the API's are made available to them]

They made the first SDK available at MIX last year, so I guess they'll do the same this year. It's a developer conference after all.

Wonderful, then here's hoping that within a month or two, skype/liveprofile/whatsapp will be out.

Was almost about to switch back to android cause of those apps missing. But I love the metro UI too much :)

The SDK will probably be out immediately but consumers will need a new OS build to run the apps. (Mango, unless they're going to release something before)
