No way, really? :(
Don't quote me on Mango because I don't know if they're going to release something before, but you definitely do need a new OS build because those new public APIs and frameworks aren't in NoDo.

WPCentral got a list of announcements for MIX11 from an unverified source, so take it with a grain of salt.

http://www.wpcentral.com/mix11-announcements-windows-phone-rumors

Nothing really shocking or surprising here, except for the combination of Silverlight and XNA. I'd say the rest the usual evolution of the SDK.

MIX starts in two days.

I know this is a rumor list but I think there are some other things that have been rumored that could help wp7.

The whole possible windows 8 preview (tablet ui inspired by wp7) and the app store to go along with it. (this one probably won't happen yet but its possible they might give an early glimpse)
The rumors of silverlight being added to xbox 360 (bring all those apps to the 360)
I also think we might get a few new features of mango.... they have said we have not seen all the new features in mango yet and this would be a good place to show off some more stuff.

Silverlight on Xbox 360? Probably.
More about Mango? Yes.
Windows 8 preview? Nope, they're going to save this for PDC.

silverlight's already on the xb360.
For 3rd party app development? I thought that was just XNA.

bing on ipad shows that even at microsoft, ipad/iphone is the lead platform. ahahhahahaha.
For the Bing division? Probably, yes. People have to remember that Microsoft's biggest problem is that there is no "Microsoft" and the divisions fight independently for marketshare in their own markets.

A bit too early, if you ask me. I specifically asked to wait for it until the WP keynote is over. Oh Snap, always jumping the gun ...

What kind of apps?
Going to try games.. maybe some non-game apps as well. Already put together a pretty nice blackjack game, will be cool seeing it run on the phone instead of the simulator.

.Net is my hobby-programming medium of choice and it would be interesting to be able to extend it into the WP7 realm.

I have no idea what the WP7 market looks like right now, obviously it's still in its early stages. I got into iOS programming in 2009 and kind of got turned off by the over saturation.. not to mention having to use a macbook, xcode, and cocoa/objective-c..

Totally not true. They are there, but unexposed and undocumented. Look up the various compass homebrew apps you can make, even though its API isn't public yet.

They could absolutely release new developer features without having to patch the OS.

Absolutely slim chance that all those private APIs go unchanged when they make them public. That's why they're private and undocumented. They "could" but it's unlikely.

Edit: Hell, it would absolutely require an OS update because those undocumented frameworks in NoDo right now are private. Developers can't publish marketplace apps that use those.

so I can't transfer WMV digital copies of movies to my phone? Who should I blame for this? The DRM isn't recognized by Zune. Buncha BS. Oh well, time to rip DVD's and I guess I'll have to turn to torrents for crap I legally paid for anyways.

Well I'm screwed. My screen is not working because I have a crack in the led underneath the screen. I've never so much as dropped this phone in the 2 months I've owned it. The crack has been getting bigger and bigger all day. The screen itself is in perfect shape. WTF?

AT&T are being total douche nozzles...as expected. I can't upgrade until June of 2012 and It will cost $300 to get out of my contract. The lady actually told me my phone was out of warranty now that it is broken...to which lol'd. They directed me to their online selection of phones...the cheapest smartphone was $390 and it was $450 to replace my Focus.

Calling Samsung tomorrow to see what they can do. Not holding out much hope though. Never expected this thing to be fragile as an egg shell.

Welcome to digital download world ... yeah, it's pretty annoying. I can't wait for the day when Microsoft get out of under Anti-trust watchdog and can fully combine Windows media player and Zune into one app.

edit: oh yeah, blame the anti-trust people I guess because your digital download is under WMP drm management which I assume is separate from the Zune.

I am not sure what their one year warranty cover, but crack screen they probably would claim it's user abuse (not saying you are) as she told you. I assume you didn't get extended warranty. : /

Looks on ebay see if you can find one.

It's licensing. Microsoft and the studios don't have a deal for digital copies on Zune devices.

As expected recent Windows Phone podcast claim that At&t really is testing the update and most likely send them back to Microsoft for "improvement". LOL, do they really think we are that stupid. What improvement could they be doing for Feb. update ....

On that note they also claim that using Chevron 7 tools will break your phone and they are not spreading FUD.

http://wmpoweruser.com/brandon-watson-on-chevronwp7-updaters-non-serviceable-state-it-is-not-fud/

Anyway, using bing app on iPad currently and wow that's one nice app. Just make you scratch your head even more of how their very own platform have the worst bing search. Even the one on iPhone and android are better.

Has there been a fix to the issue of the phone importing all your Facebook friends into your Phonebook contacts?

Yeah, I got my Focus from Ebay last December. Paid $350, I'm sure its cheaper now.

I remember it being discussed here post-September. I don't own a WP7 so I wouldn't know.

I think he was more or less snarkily saying that is a feature that was included at launch. You've always had the option to filter out Facebook contacts by your address book.

That is very strange. I remember reading/seeing reviews of people mentioning this as if you had no choice but to import them if you wanted to connected to FB

I don't think they'll let you exchange for a Focus straight up, though. Maybe you get a nice sales associate who hooks you up. If you do get a Focus, I think you'll like it. Thin, light, best screen and best camera.

This is all being handled through Telecom dept. at work so I have little power. I assume they will allow a straight return of the Surround since it is faulty.

I think you may be confusing that with some of the complaining about filtering the fb contacts AFTER you've chosen to import. Which can also be done via menu.

go over the the XDA-developers market place. I've bought and traded for two phones there and it's been a blast.

Edit: Don't know if it's been sold but here is one going for $150

You're right, but that's not the case anymore. In July last year Microsoft gave out developer prototypes to the press with a preview build of the OS. At that time you had to import all the Facebook contacts. When the previews came out and the press criticized the lack of a filter, Microsoft quickly added that option to the RTM build, making it available at launch.

Interesting: some Focus users with NoDo are reporting improved MicroSD card compatibility: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834144&page=104

I cannot answer as to whether there will be official support or not for 32GB cards but I'm now on day 6 with my "NoDo-zed" Focus and a Sandisk 32Gb Class 2 Card (which is the one ATT originally was selling alongside the Focus at their stores) and I've had no issues whatsoever since the NoDo update.

I'm a long-run kind of guy here (which is why I kept the Sandisk Card in my Focus for the last 5 months) so I really do want to see some more time go by before I'd call things "fixed" but I'm certainly willing to say that I'm rocking with nearly 40GB on my Focus and NoDo and it is vastly improved at this point.

Hi Everyone. I have been following the thread since the beginning and felt I should just add my experience. I initially tried the Scandisk 8 Gb Sd Card that was initially claimed to be "compatible", but got the reboot and phone reset issue. I returned it and lived with the 8 Gb limit until 4 weeks ago, when I decided to try the Patriot 16 Gb Card that has been discussed earlier and is found on the Amazon site, showing "compatible with" the Samsung Focus. I filled it to around 18 Gb of stuff (Syncing was normal speed). It worked well, but I did notice the issue with the icons not always instantly loading immediately after coming out of an app... and there was the occasional lag on the end-menu bounce on the home screen. All in all, it was very minor... and I was happy with the extra storage and the performance... and it was stable with no reboots for the 4 weeks.
I got my NoDo Update notification last night and went ahead and downloaded and installed the update... it was flawless, as everything worked perfectly and fast. Much to my surprise, all lag and icon issues are gone now with this card... MS must have adjusted something to do with memory usage, because the performance is now as it was before I installed the card.
This card has been disussed previously, and I know some people have had issues, but I just wanted to pass on that it is working perfectly now after the update. Here is the link to it for reference.

Cheers

Of course, it's all anecdotal, but I think I'm going to give that Patriot card a try, I'm hitting my storage limit every month and have to go back and delete apps, vids, music, etc.

I get that thing where the icons don't load right away sometimes when coming out of an app. Its not all icons either, just the ones towards the bottom when I scroll down. Its very brief, so I can live with that since I've had double the space on my Focus for a few months now with no issues.

I have that problem on occasion without SD card so it's not the SD card issue. It's usually when I exit certain app (I should keep track next time) some just take longer.

I am however still wary about the SD card it seems that the performance vary from phone to phone and some work fine with certain card while other have problem. Mine was fine for about 3-4 weeks then I start getting the random reboot.

Also I really don't want to loose my unlock status. I suppose I could return my phone back to pre-nodo, install the SD card and then unlock the phone again, but if SD card fail 3-4 weeks from now I will end up doing the same thing again. ><

So a week ago I got my phone (Samsung Omnia 7 16GB), and I love it. Started using Nodo straight from the start.

However there's two things which annoy me...

1301690634223.jpg

Why can't WP7 have a toggle feature like Android? It would make enabling and disabling things a billion times more convenient.

And another thing is conversations, why can't I end a conversation and open a new one with the same person? Since I got the phone a week ago, I've been texting someone, and it's come up to over 150 texts, and having that many texts in one threaded view is just annoying... Although I am impressed there's still no slowdown.

One reason why I don't want to give up my unlock status ... it's so nice to have those quick button to turn on / off stuff. (It would be even if it's a toggle but I am fine as is).

Now my phone last all 11 hours of work since the phone no longer constantly looking for signal.

I have a chance to use co-worker android ... what a messy system both the interface and the eco-system.

Oh, I unlocked my phone too, is there an app I need to sideload to gain this functionality? I unlocked my phone just in case there was something like this lol, I haven't a clue how else it is useful, I basically still have a stock wp7 phone...

There are shortcuts you can install, but it's not a toggle button, just one step less than pinning settings to your homescreen.
