maybe more like "as important"
Utmost important.

That's what I can't stand about smartphones these days. My WM 6.5 phone lasts 2 days without charge, and I consider that weak.

Whatever happened to the days of charging your phone once a week?

brotkasten, isn't it pretty much a given that all Bing improvements that come with Mango will be US only as well? Since you added (US Only) to 'Podcast in the marketplace' I think you should add it to these things as well. :)

Can't wait for the update and a Zune Software update. Too bad they don't talk about that at all.
I'm pretty sure everyone will get at least the image search. :lol

But seriously, I agree with you. Turn-by-Turn, music/audio search will probably only available in the US or NA. Still, I'd wait for the Mango reveal. They're having two events, one in NY and one in London, so the presentations should cover both markets.

No talk hopefully doesn't mean they're not working on it. I think Microsoft knows how much better the Zune software can and should be. It's a great piece of software and I prefer it to iTunes, but there are many things it currently doesn't do at all and these things need to be implemented as soon as possible (Audio books, App Management, cell phone management, etc.).
They basically didn't update the Zune software for 2 years. 4.7 just added WP sync support and ... wait for it ... Windows Live Gallery support.

I think we're getting a big overhaul with the rumored rebranding.

aw. when can i expect phones with second gen snapdragons?
This Fall.

More importantly, do the newer processors decrease battery life even faster?
Again, they're more efficient, not less. edit: Or are you talking about the 3rd gen dual-cores?

We may get there some day but look at the displays the once a week phones had. Though phones that don't last a day are cutting it a little short for me.

I read the announcement on WPCentral, but I can't find a source for CE DX coming to WP7. Karl Stricker's Twitter mentions only the deal of the week (The Harvest for $4.99).

Complex Shadow said:
how much does it cost on ios and android?
CE and CE DX are different games.

CE is $2.99 on Android and $4.99 on iOS.

There is no talk about any new version for their Live software as well.

Dunno what's going on at MS these days.

I am thinking they were await the decision on the Anti-trust and now that burden is gone we probably will see better intergration of all things Live and Zune.

The second gen phones won't be around in two months, though, thats my problem. And yeah, I have a few backup phone options, but I want to use a windows phone.

On another note, its interesting that the Venue Pro is also out on att, so there are a few options for me if I can't wait. Which would you guys prefer, the DVP or the HD7S? Did DELL work out all the kinks on their phone?

The last I heard about Dell is that people are still complaining about problems and the lack of new firmware. Some of the problems seems to be fix by the SD card replacement but it seems there are other problems from reading the forum.

I don't know which phone I would pick if I have the choice between HD7s and DVP. I am not sure what your situation is but may be get a phone now even if next gen phone come out around October there won't be substantial change I am sure until Nokia phone next year and by then you should be able to do "early" upgrade with nominal fee.

I have one phone that will be off contract by the end of this year and two phones the year after ...

anybody tethering their Focus?

feedback on ease of use complexity to use daily? I know how to do iy just wondering if I can plan on it as a solution for a year or so?

thx

Anyone have trouble signing into Birdsong since the latest update? It won't take my login no matter what, even though I'm sitting at a computer and logging into Twitter directly with the same login details.

EDIT: NM, just reset my PW and for some reason it starts working.

It looks like Microsoft's agreement with Shazam is over.

Shazam released the paid version of their app, Shazam Encore, for $5.99 and gimped the free version you have on your phone. No more unlimited music tagging unless you get the Encore version.

Shazam has just released the paid version of their music tagging application for Windows Phone 7 today. The good news is that WP7 users now have access to most of the services features which were only available on other platforms before. But but the bad news is that the free version will no longer offer unlimited tagging unless the app was installed before May 2011:

UPDATE: It looks like Shazam really wants you to pay for their stuff. After updating the free Shazam version I was no longer able to pin the application to the home screen. Strange right? So the solution would probably to uninstall it, loose the unlimited tagging feature and re-install it right? Well, I decided to just reboot the phone just in-case it fixes the the tile issue…the app has now vanished from my phone! According to the Marketplace it’s still installed on my phone..but It no longer shows up in the installed applications list!

Here’s the list of features available in Shazam Encore (for $5.99)

Upgrade your music journey with Encore:
- Unlimited tagging, so don’t miss a music moment – tag as often as you like
- Identify what song is playing and buy the track direct on Zune Marketplace
- Get Music Recommendations to discover similar music
- View lyrics and sing along to tagged tracks
- Read album reviews, artist biographies and discographies
- Watch YouTube videos for tagged artists from within the App

Windows Phone is now one step closer being on par with Android and iOS. :lol

Did anyone else get a Zune software update and phone update this morning? I woke up with an update notification on my phone and I updated to 7.0.7392.0. But Zune had to update first. I can't find any difference in either. I have and HTC HD7 by the way.

Maybe they are upset that the functionality is coming in Mango, lol
Maybe. I think it was a promotional agreement, just like the one between Microsoft and last.fm. Shazam was never free on other platforms.

i think it was on android for some time. and it still is for people who installed it before introducing the paid version, iirc

anyone have an idea of when/if an equalizer function will come to zune player on PC.
Never!

Okay, I don't know, but I can tell ya, the folks at Zune don't like the idea of EQs. Something about listening to the music as it was intended by the artist or something like that. They completely removed the EQ function with the Zune 2.0 update. Maybe they changed their minds or the other/new folks there like EQs now, but you'll have to wait for the 5.0 update.

:lol

damn. I remb looking at thier fourms once and people really wanted it.

How does one go about customizing the look of the OS more? I saw someone posted a pic a few pages back.

Edit: Or maybe that was in the "argument: WP will beat out Android" thread.

k. I already had Shazam free installed (and it remains free and unlimited to anyone who had it prior to this new release. :)

BUT..the update installed into the Games hub. lol .. woops :(

AT&T planning a big Windows Phone 7 push?

WinExtra reports that there is some evidence that AT&T is planning a big Windows Phone 7 push.

They have been told by a “trusted source” that AT&T are sending reps to Best Buy locations to check how well salespeople there know about Windows Phone 7 and that the best performers in the verbal quiz stand to win free Windows Phone 7 handsets.

The aim is apparently to get Best Buy reps better informed and to make them more likely to push Windows Phone 7 over Android, a laudable goal from our point of view.

AT&T are Microsoft’s Premier Windows Phone 7 Partner, and it’s about time that we see some evidence of this in action.

about time. MOST people buy what the salesperson sterrs them toward and I have seen PLENTY of sp misinform or fanboy people right off of a WP7 due to ignorance or MS hate or whatever...good for AT&T.

Does anyone know any good messengers on the Windows Phone to use except MSN or Yahoo so I can speak to my girlfriend across the world. It aggravates me how there's no official Windows Live messenger released yet and we have to rely on these third party releases.

It is good to have informed salespeople, but having them push WP7 over alternatives? Sounds biased and perhaps not best for the consumer.

the point is that they are currently often well UNDER informed "WP7 has no copy paste" etc..." unaware of a Mango release pushing the OS to the top of the feature list by the end of this year. While in the meantime steering them right on over to android phones which is not best for the consumer either.

well informed sales people = well informed customers who hopefully can weight the facts and make up their own minds.

I witnessed a sales lady at ATT flat out DISMISS a WP7 and walk a client over to iPhones without even a reach-around first.

this is different from "make them more likely to push Windows Phone 7 over Android". This demonstrates bias.

currently they are more likely to push android without being informed of WP7. under -informed leads to the same bias currently on which you are commenting with the new plan to inform sales people to push WP7.

at least make it an even playing field in knowlege and guidance to a mostly uninformed public.

Did the unbranded/other carrier Samsung Focus phones also get their default camera settings changed with the nodo update? If not, is there anyway to copy the change over from the AT&T phones?

Actually I should ask this as well: is the Samsung Focus still the best windows phone available in North America?

Why wouldn't it? The line-up didn't change. Maybe some people will prefer AT&T's HD7S, but that one still has to come out.

You are acting like that's something new they are doing ... ><

Pissing-off early adopters has been Windows Phone 7 team's modus operandi since launch.

Just remember, like camera setting, carrier update blocking and once per year PC style update of OS, this color banding is done so you can have "consistent" user experience.

Well look like that Trophy is going to miss another rumor release date. Go Team Windows Phone!
