u can also sync your phone to multiple PC's. it does make u choose whether you are on your primary or secondary computer though.

lovin all the mango news. if Apple doesn't bring anything significant for OS5, the media will make WP7.5 its darling.

When hell freezes over.

I hope to god that this new preview doesn't have to deal with a new Windows software that wont work on Windows 7 phone. If the trophy comes out this week and I get it just to find out two weeks later it wont be compatible with cool new shit, i'll be pissed.

Maybe i'm just being paranoid.

Every WP7 will get the Mango update. The Verizon Trophy is just the CDMA version of a phone that has been available since launch.

7.5 would be perfect if they expand on the Zune features

What's the deal with not having options to display most played songs, or the songs you rate with a heart in the computer client? Smart DJ would be cool too.

Speaking of Zune, I can't wait for the updated PC client.

7.5 will have eveeerything i need. now that navigation is heavily rumored

Its been in 6.5 for a while now.... in fact it even fits in with the metro theme. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BJlv6doAJY

I am also pretty excited for 7.5.... really looks like it will have virtually everything I have been asking for. I am interested to see what they do for music on the device. Really needs smart dj support (which you have to think will be there)

one thing i never got is why microsoft is shitting on europe.
bing is worthless here, but i love it with all its features enabled when turned to american.

i will be really angry if stuff like navigation in 7.5 will be NA only.

You might want to sit down ...

I have no idea if Bing navigation will be NA only.

e: But seriously, the podcast marketplace on the phone is already NA only, so it doesn't look good for other features. I doubt features like audio search will be available in Europe.

You can to that. Its called an autoplaylist. Just go into the playlist tab in the Zune software and create one with the criteria you want. You can make a plethora of different types of playlists that suit your needs.

Thanks for clearing that up, buddy. I haven't been following any of the Mango stuff.

I dont see why audio search wouldnt be available in Europe... I thought the main reason for missing features was content licensing issues. Hey, isn't maps supposed to be using Nokia's Ovi software in the Mango release? It's a bit amusing that RIM is getting Bing Maps for BB just as Microsoft is getting Ovi for WP7

I have it on good word that they won't be adding anything new.
I have it on good word they'll just be adding stuff that "was already done on WP7/Android/Palm/Blackberry and Apple is going to make it look like they invented it!"

Anyone test their code out on the WP7 emulator from Microsoft? Can it run everything you throw at it or do you need an actual phone to test most stuff?

You need an actual phone to get a good idea of the performance on an actual device. The WP7 emulator and tools will get a lot of nice new features that it didn't have before with the upcoming software updates, things like the ability to more easily test location and motion.

Ah yeah, that's what I wanted to know. Thanks!

Well, my Windows Phone 7 experiment is over for now:

Dropped it in the parking lot at work at lunchtime. :(

Running to my car the Focus flew out of my jacket pocket landed on the side. The case helped. Fell on the edge broke open the case, the focus bounced up about 2 feet than landed on the edge where the power button is. Only scraped up the edges. I was very lucky.

brotkasten said:
Man, that sucks. You're going to use the nexus as your primary phone now or are you going to get a replacement for the focus?
I'll use the Nexus One for now. My repair options seem limited since Samsung does not recognize the imei#. I'll call At&t and see if they can makes sense of that number, but they don't have to help, I bought the phone on ebay.

Insurance is only $5 a month, man!
Can you buy insurance from phones that are not bought from them?

please announce a Venue Pro refresh with Mango, an HSPA+ chip, and a Super AMOLED Plus screen. i'd be happy with that phone for a good 2 years.

So Microsoft buying Skype, can we pretty much expect next Windows phone to have two cameras or will this be another one of those where competitor platform get better service than Microsoft own like Bing...

I guess that would be a lock.

Well, a front-facing camera isn't required in the updated chassis spec, iirc. So it's up to the manufacturer. Remember, Microsoft wants to keep the costs for the minimum specs low.

I thought they were going with two different specs, with one for low end phones? What's the updated chassis spec anyway? (Any chance of retina displays :?)

Skype also has a chat/im component besides the video calls it's known for. Microsoft Messenger is always there of course but Microsoft should seriously think about bundling a competitor to BBM.

They scrapped the second chassis. The new one is a slightly updated version of what we have. They only added the second gen Snapdragon and an optional Gyro. Everything else is still the same.

Didn't they scrap the second chassis before the deal with Nokia? I thought they were bringing it back so Nokia could do their low priced phones for certain regions?

The memory requirements could be raised, although most of the phones already have 512MB of RAM. No more 8GB storage space like the Focus, please. I wish the manufacturers would deliver more innovative handsets: High-res displays, optical zoom, notification leds (make the windows button glow with different colors for each pane)... bah, we've already seen Dell's roadmap and there really isn't anything new there. *shrug* not that WP7 phones aren't good devices already.

They confirmed at MIX11 that this would be the only new chassis for now. And again, it's all minimum specs. Manufacturers are free to use more RAM, storage, megapixels and a faster CPU.

But not free to use an unsupported SoC (which means chances are slim for something more than the 1.4 Ghz 8X55T) and not allowed to change the display resolution (so no retina/qHD for us).

I expect things to change some if they migrate to a windows 8 core. NVIDIA, Qualcomm, and Texas Instruments are partnered up with them for windows 8 ARM. Hopefully there will be more variation then.

But it is in the update spec. Cool, I think this is a better route and people can pick up phone with front camera if they want one for skype or whatever else and help keep the cost down.

Though it has been rumor, I was really surprise at this acquisition and how much they are paying for it.

Anyway, mango looking to be really awesome, and here hoping Microsoft can really deliver this time.

On another note, another one of my co-worker got the new HTC Thunderbolt as she just gave up waiting for Windows Phone 7. (It was too late by the time it was confirm for 12th of May as she already got the Thunderbolt). Nice phone, big screen and LTE is fast but that Sense UI is crap compare to Windows Phone 7.

It's true that they can't use unsupported SoCs, but a 1.4GHz 8255T wouldn't be that bad. Remember, this is the second gen Snapdragon, where the 7230 with 800MHz is as fast as the 1GHz QSD8250.

And yes, we won't see WP running on a dual-core CPU before 2012. The current CE6R3 kernel doesn't support SMP.

The stock ui has nothing on wp7 either. Android has its strengths, but ui and design are not them. This sucks, I miss my windows phone. :(

I don't know what taking so long for them to get WP7 phones onto Verizons ... it's now two more Androids instead of two Windows Phone in my department. (So far I am the only one, majority use iPhone, few Blackberry and the rest are droids).

Sorry about your phone, hope you can replace it soon. However at this point, I imagine it would be tough not to wait for next gen Winodows Phone instead.

I wonder if the new chassis will be updated to require the front facing camera now..... I have to imagine it will not be difficult since most designs already incorporate front facing cameras (android). wp7 now has a reason to get a front facing camera. also the phones are not yet out so they could add it pretty easily and get phones out by the end of the year as long as they update it quickly and give the oem's a few months to retrofit things.

I don't think it makes sense to require a front facing camera. They want to decrease the minimum prices of WP7 phones, not increase.

Hopefully the software supports it as optional though. Seems like if the OS supports one camera, it wouldn't be that difficult to support a second. Who knows though.

Ugh It's just so frustrating that Verizon hasn't officially said shit about the HTC Trophy. There's no way it's coming out on Thursday if it doesn't get announced today, imo. I can't believe I've been checking for a release date almost everyday since March.
I might just end up getting a Droid X2.
