Does anyone know where/if you can get the Windows Phone Connector for Mac from anywhere but the (OS X) App Store?

To use the App Store to download one free (!) application, I have to register a payment method.

However, I don't have a credit card and it won't let me use Paypal from Germany.

So I can't get the free program because I can't sign up for the App Store...

that comment just inspired me to upload all of my customer invoice PDFs to my skydrive...no more paper prints outs for my file boxes

What? So Ballmer said "Windows phone sales have gone from very small to very small"? Are you kidding me?
I kid you not. He talked about the Windows 7, Xbox, Office 365, Azure sales ("millions sold, blah blah") and then phones he said something like "Phones, we've gone from very small to very small, but it's been a heck of a year!". He obviously laughed when he said that.

he also mentioned stiff competition and Mango being big

speaking of Mango beta bugs... again, can someone else check a few 3rd party voice apps and see if they have playback errors?

thx

I read that article and submitted a notification that one of the restaurants they listed in my area was now closed.. hopefully people will chip in and the data will get better and more accurate.

Along that line, does anyone know if there is a way that we can actually add places to Bing? Or do the business owners typically have to do that?

I thought it was known that WP7 was actually losing market share...really sad :\

Its not losing marketshare.... its failing to sell like the old wm6 devices did (mainly to the enterprise). We will find out alot more about wp7 when the new generation of mango devices hit (along with nokia.... nokia is the real ace in the hole sales wise imo). Wont do much here but it will get wp7 a foothold in other parts of the world.

List a few and I'll test it out.

Evernote (Free), Rapid recorder (free trial, but I own it),

both, when playing a recorded note on the phone, give me an error. i can not remember the other one. the recording part works as it can be played on a computer when synced but fails to play on Mango. both worked on noDo

thanks!

yea, watching commercials, it's about the phones.

Hardware is what sells people. Most don't know the difference in interfaces (until they try a WP7) so they opt for the coolest, most fast, "hey look at my 4G sporting, fast processor smokin, memory filled juggernaut" of a handheld device. who cares how good the UI is.

or the one the Android salesman posing as a carrier salesman leads them to

crap...SORRY for triple posting ... doh!

Edit:
K, playing with Skydrive files and mango Office opens my skydrive files just fine (although could use some sorting options please) but I do not understand why I can not add WP7 as a shared device for sync (windows mesh) folders. I thought that was possible? I don;t want to SYNC to phone but view the files

sad sales for wp7. looks like its mango or bust mode now. seriously, I just don't see Microsoft pressing forward with windows phone 8 if mango sales are just as horrible for this holiday season. I can see Microsoft just creating more deals to get bing in more devices as well as Zune and xbox live.

Microsoft completely underestimated retail here. if your phone isn't named iPhone, your device isn't going to be spotlighted for no more than a few weeks. that's the smartphone retail culture now. the latest devices get front shelf. no new devices and your shit gets sent to the back. words like "cutting edge, hot, new" aren't related to today's wp7 phones that have been on the shelves, some for over 8 months now. nokia said they could release a new WP device every 2 months but that maybe too late in the game.

I had a coworker, who loved my hd7 by the way, that went into a tmo store ready to upgrade his clamshell. although he wanted xbox live, the sales rep sold him on the galaxy s 4G. this is a dude who doesn't even have internet at his house, so things like 4g and tethering were important to him.

honestly, I feel MS duped all of us. we are all a part of a soft launch with a great but incomplete OS that MS never planned to fully upgrade until nearly an entire year.

sorry for the vent but its going to be a long wait til new devices hit. go mango!!!

But can you really blame retailers entirely? It's not their fault that MS release an incomplete OS that take almost 6 month for first patch just to get in cut & paste. The first batch of phone was really a soft launch and I think they did terrible job of making the early adopters happy and go out to evangelize the phone.

My in-law just got a new phone and as much as I want to sell her Windows phone 7, I just could not. She want Facebook and facetime or something similar and while facebook intergration is great, lack of facetime feature just kill the deal for her. She now sport android phone, while not having Apple facetime, they have alternative that work just as well. It looks like full Skype intergration won't even make it into Mango .... all I can say Microsoft is slow and the longer they take the more people like my in-law who just now graduate to smartphone will pick either iPhone or android. (She has Verizons so naturally, the salesperson are all pushing the android phone so she walk out with one instead of iphone).

As someone mention it's all about hardware, all the average joe and jane care about is good camera, nice screen and ability to do things they want. UI is mostly secondary to them if it's not overly complicate, they won't care.

You just described android, ios and pretty much any new phone platform ever..... They are/were all lacking in the beginning and get improved over time. You really expected wp7 to be different? To me it was still completely worth it, missing features and all because of the stuff they did right (zunepass, xbox, office, etc).

I fully expected them to only sell 10 million phones this year and that's right on the track they are at right now.... if you really expected wp7 to match android or ios numbers (who have been on the market and improving for years) this year you were expecting too much.

Back to the conference though.... I am interested to see tomorrows keynote about the new devices and if there is anything new there (today was just one giant recap). Also hoping to see more about w8 in general (but not expecting anything until sept)..... still can hope for some new bits esp on the media/gaming front because I fully believe w8 will be the next windows phone and am hoping many of the things I love about wp7 make it forward (and really should be in w8 natively.... hubs in general... esp people hub, zunepass, facebook integration, im integration, xbox, skydrive, etc)

http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Mobile-and...p-Microsoft-Smartphone-Decline-Report-361729/

Microsoft's market share of smartphone platforms

Apr 2010 - 14.0%
Jul 2010 - 11.8%
Aug 2010 - 10.8%
Nov 2010 - 9.0% <---- WP7 launched
Feb 2011 - 7.7%
May 2011 - 5.8%

This includes WM6.

that is just US sales.... and it says nothing to dispute what I said. wp7 is not picking up the slack from wm6 going off the market. Its not losing marketshare itself.... its not selling fast enough to offset the legacy (there is a difference).

WP7 was designed and launched as a direct competitor to the Iphone 3g.

Except they launched it against the Iphone 4.

To be fair, Windows Mobile 7 was probably designed as a direct competitor to Symbian. We got lucky.

Yes we did.. very lucky indeed.

I can understand how some people are more centered on the number of available features, I hope Microsoft's chances improve with the introduction of new hardware and Mango.

I'd hate to see them give up.. though I think they are a long way away from that conclusion..

They need to hit with a bang this fall with Mango and new phones though. They need to market the thing WELL.

Even designed for phones without a touchscreen! D-Pad, resistive touchscreen, stylus. Yay.

They did last year. Didn't help.

I don't think that's the issue. They need to show people why they should give a shit about WP7. They have failed to really do so to this point I think.
