Anybody else assuming the Zune software is getting a feature upgrade with the mango release? Because I'm totally assuming that.
Needs to happen. Zune is excellent for music, because that's what it was made for. The phone stuff, however, is pretty bad. I just hope they won't change the UI too much.

I finally got my HTC 7 pro, is there a list somewhere of some of tune best apps and games to download?

It's so nice to have a real keyboard again.

I have a hard question from you guys: what happens if you change your e-mail associated with your Windows Live ID? (I can change it if I move to hotmail, for example). The account tied on the phone will no longer be valid, but if you change it to the new e-mail (I guess it would be a hard reset) all application will be gone, but what about your purchase history? Is it still tied to your Live ID? Can you download all applications again?

I am asking it because I have a strange problem. Since this week I cannot buy stuff in the WP and Zune marketplace. On the phone, when I hit the buy button, it thinks for a while and gives me an error code C101A23D. If I try to use the Zune software on PC, I can login in normally using my Windows Live ID (which is the same as my Zune ID) but when I try to purchase something, I got an error saying that there is no Zune account tied to this particular Windows Live ID and I must login in using a different Live ID.

Obviously there is some kind of error, the system lost the information that ties my Zune ID with my Live ID. I made a lot of purchases in the past months, something must have happened in the past few days. I even changed my billing method to add a different credit card (I thought at first that it could be an error on the processing of my payment). I entered a new credit card that I have and the system accepted it normally (even charging me some US$ 1 for verification of the holder, I guess - I hope they are refundable - I received the approval confirmation by SMS from my credit card operator).

If I try to sign for a new Zune account using the same Live ID the system says that it located my old Zune account and start it. But the error continues.

I tried the Zune help chat but got no luck trying to solve the problem.

I am thinking in trying to change the Windows Live ID e-mail and start a new Zune account to see if the error is fixed, but I have to be sure that the purchase history is stored on the WIndows Live ID, not in the Zune ID.

Thoughts?

I would visit some forums and send some support emails out before I changed email addresses. Someone on MS or Zune support should have the answer in terms of binding the Zune/Windows Live IDs again. It is very likely you WOULD lose your purchase history, since I believe they are tied to the Windows Live ID.

My recommendations:

Games:
Plants vs Zombies. No brainer if you haven't played it yet.

Apps:
Rowi for twitter, althought it's broken in Mango.
Feed Reader v2.0 for Google Reader.
Kik Messenger
4th & Mayor for Foursquare (although the new official foursquare app works great).
AccuWeather.com for weather.
TVShows for tv show tracking.
Facebook, of course.
Battle.net Authenticator

I have a question...

I own ZuneHD and I love how it scrolls and interweaves the track title/time/album name/artist on the album cover while the music plays.....auto fast forward fading in/out is also a cool touch...you can see what I am talking about starting at the 0:09 mark of this video:

Do the WP7 handsets have this same mode?

It's the official Beta 2 for developers. You need a registered developer account or you can find some ways on the web to get it.

I know, it looks really awesome and I miss it, too. At least in Mango you see the artist picture on the lockscreen, when you play music, but it's still not the same.

New artist wallpapers: We also figured music lovers would like to see those great artist images in the Music + Videos Hub show up as wallpaper on the lock screen. In Mango, that’s now a settings option. (We keep this one off by default, since it does have a small impact on your battery life).

I kinda like the artist wallpaper better than the zune moving thing..... if they added images that faded in and out on a rotating basis it would be better (a la the zunehd/desktop software). You know that zunehd now playing screen had to take quite a bit to power and really it wasn't on that often anyways.... its not like the pc or xbox where I would just sit there and watch it.

It could be Microsoft's coverflow.

A feature that practically no one used, but was the first thing everyone showed off.

Updating to the Mango beta right now.

We we we so excited.

Wow, you wasted no time. Lol. I would've at least gotten into NoDo and the interface a little bit before jumping to Mango. NoDo is much more stable and bug free, I'm not sure if beta Mango is the best way to really get to know a Windows Phone.

So I just bought a Macbook Pro (will arrive next week).

Does the connector works with Mango? I plan to replace my windows laptop with this one. Shame if I need to dualboot with Windows and/or need to go back to NoDo to use.

Now that I think about it, I'll need Zune eventually to go back from Mango beta.

Nikkei article says the first mango handset released will be the Fujitsu. it will be released in Japan in August? is mango really this close to being released?

So I'm interested in buying a WP7 phone but the only ones that are available here in the Netherlands are the HTC 7 Trophy, Samsung Omnia 7 and the LG Optimus 7. I'm kind of leaning towards the Samsung but I don't really know anything about the other phones to be honest.

Which one would GAF choose?

trophy, optimus, and Omnia are all good phones with strengths and weaknesses. i'd rank the phones in that order though with the Omnia on top due to its construction.

Ok, so ive got a weird issue with my new phone. I bought an unlocked HTC 7 Pro online, and its the UK version, which is fine buuuuuttt...

My messages look really fucked up, basically ive set my timezone to mountain time, and my sent messages look fine, but any incomming ones seem like there are comming from the UK or something, haha.

I will send a text at say 10:30pm and they will send one back 5 mins later, but instead of saying 10:35pm under their text, it will say 6:35am.

Anyone know of a fix? haha

so HTC, Samsung, and Motorola will soon come crying to MS.

We can only hope.....

I am going to be a Verizon 4G customer soon, and right now only the HTC Trophy is available......I am hoping to soon see a 4G HTC product, or better yet, that sick-ass Sammy SuperAMOLED Plus phone :)

Ina Fried wrote a great article about the partnership between Microsoft and Nokia.

Reindeer Antlers and Reykjavik: How Microsoft and Nokia Are Getting Down to Business Together

Like many marriages, the partnership between Nokia and Microsoft began with a lot of celebrating and travel and presents. And reindeer antlers.

...

Harlow declined to comment on that leak, but says she is increasingly confident in the first product that will arrive this year, and that the company may yet have multiple devices for sale before the end of the year. The first Nokia phones are expected to arrive this fall alongside Mango, the first major update to Windows Phone 7.

“I’m committed to one model this year,” Harlow said. “More would be great.”

For next year, though, Harlow said there will be a steady stream of releases — something that Microsoft badly needs as it tries to keep up with rivals, particularly Android devices, which are released on a constant basis.

...

Harlow said her goal is that Nokia will have more frequent hardware updates, keeping the company, and by extension Windows Phone, front of mind with phone shoppers.

...

For its part, Microsoft said it has shifted its priorities to make sure that Nokia’s needs are being met first. The company has increased its focus on going global more quickly, as Nokia counts on Windows Phone to quickly fill a gap created by the rapid decline in its existing Symbian phone business.

“We had been focused on North America and Western Europe,” Myerson said of the company’s early efforts. That, he said, has now changed.

Although Microsoft is also working with its other partners, Myerson isn’t shy about saying that he is pouring more energy into his partners in Finland. After all, while HTC and Samsung build Windows Phones, they also make phones running Google’s Android software. Nokia, meanwhile, has pledged to make Windows Phone the core of its smartphone strategy.

“We are prioritizing work proportionate to Nokia’s commitment to Windows Phone, which is unlike anything we have had before,” Myerson said.

Are you on Rogers/Fido? I have the same problem and iirc, it's due to the Rogers sms timestamp being in a different timezone.

I dont know of a fix for WP7 though. Back when I had an Android, I had to run this timestamp fixer that essentially intercepts my sms messages and fixes the timestamp. Doubt that's even possible with WP7.

any link for evidence?
You don't need evidence to see that partners are treating their Windows Phones as a second or third class offerings. I think Samsung has more ads for Bada phones, than for the Omnia 7 or Focus.

Welcome back! I missed wp7 a ton when my focus broke and I had to use Android.

I guess it's a good thing that your sister didn't purchase it. It wouldn't sell on eBay and it made me sad to sit there and think such a good phone would go to waste. I couldn't stand Android's clunkiness or Virgin's unreliable service I got. It is well worth what I am paying a month for such an awesome user experience. Now, onto getting Mango. :D

Just ordered a Focus on ebay. I already have an Inspire running CM7 but even so I am kinda sick of Android. I'll still hang on to it until ICS at least and see if I like it more then and if not I'll sell it. I just really like the look and feel of WP7 and Mango looks like a great update.

Anti trust issues don't come from marketshare.

So, what's the anti-trust issue?

Nothing is unreasonably anti-competitive about giving your dedicated partners additional focus.

Venne is not saying this

Samsung should have more Bada ads... because it actually developed Bada.
